The sushi was fresh, well prepared, & thoughtfully presented. Flavors were balanced without being overcomplicated, which I appreciated. Service was attentive & professional. Portions aren't huge, but the quality clearly justifies it. I would happily return.
We went as a group of friends & had a perfect time.
The sushi was excellent, fresh, & very well prepared
Miso soup was great, sushi was fresh, & the service was cool & friendly
We had a great experience, Manou & Dan were so amazing & attentive throughout the night! The service was so amazing.
Not to mention the food, it was so delicious & fresh. Definitely recommend!! (:
Nice Japanese restaurant in the heart of Griffintown. Varied menu. Fresh & tasty dishes.
Jan'24: We tried this place for the first time & were impressed with the seafood quality for an affordable price. They certainly get a good provider for the tuna 💯 The sashimi pieces are thick & fresh. It's the first sushi place where I see more tuna than salmon is served in rolls. What I find not on point is the sushi sauce & soy sauce which is a bit salty to my taste. We got the platter for 4 & the price is amazingly good for this quality.
The place itself is spacious & has a zen decor, music is not loud. They don't have alcohol license so only mocktails available. Overall it was a nice experience & certainly a nice addition for the Griffintown area.
Apr'24: Food & quality are still great. There's now an outdoor terrace also. The only bemol is the service which is kinda slow & the waiters don't come by very often.
June'24: We're trying the terrace for the time & the seating was very comfortable. It has the Ibiza vibes with the sun & a nice background music. The service can't be better as they gave us free sashimi for bringing out the wrong item.
Aug'24: We had a wonderful dinner with friends who tried this place for the first time. The newly introduced BYOW makes this place even more attractive! The sushi/sashimi are amazing as usual. It took a bit of time to get the food but we quickly forgot about it once the food arrived & the alcohol kicked in.
Dec'24: We came back with some friends. Sushi quality is still good but price has increased a lot compared to beginning of the year. Platter Abundance is now $169 instead of $129!! The restaurant was full. We ordered extra sashimi on top of the platter, asking to have it come out first & they were not able to do it. The sashimi actually came after 😐, & the restaurant felt a bit cold as if it wasn't heated enough. We hope the restaurant will keep up with its reputation.
Sept'25: We've been few times since but this time we noticed a difference so thought of writing a comment. We usually order combos & this time the sashimi, nigiri, maki pieces... everything are smaller in size. I'm even shocked to see how tiny it is the uramaki. Seems like it's different chef doing & it's not as good. Quite disappointed!
UMAMIA is truly a hidden gem in Montreal! I'm not usually used to the bring-your-own-wine concept, but the quality of the food completely blew me away. From the wasabi chips & the fresh salmon tartare to the wide variety of sushi - including the hamachi, eel maki, & the signature Griffin & Tokyo uramaki - everything was exceptional. Thanks the team !
The manager, Pierre-Marc, gives excellent recommendations & delivers a 5-star service that makes you feel right at home. The décor is modern, the atmosphere is warm & inviting, & the playlist is simply perfect for a great night out. Highly recommended!
Decor is trendy, chic & clean. Service is great.
Food is fresh & tasty.
Arigato.
Very nice to discover this restaurant!
We had a wonderful diner & a great service. Food was fresh & very good.
To answer some comments, I feel the 5$ for bottle that your bring is regular as we can see this in other restaurant in Montreal too.
Unfortunately, on another hand, I would say that the prices are too high even if the quality is good it's not outstanding.
Careful to the menu you see in picture as it's showing 44 pieces 99$ & now it's 36 pieces for 99$. Lot for changes like this one appears.
I would also recommend to the restaurant to be more generous on regular things (wasabi, ginger, soya sauce,…) it feels a bit tcheap on the quality & the fact that we have to ask for more sauce instead of having tit on the table.
Thanks
I don't often leave reviews, but my experience at Umamia was so outstanding that I had to share it. From the moment we walked in, the ambiance struck the perfect balance between elegant & welcoming. The attention to detail in the décor, music, & lighting created an atmosphere that was both refined & cozy.
The service was impeccable! Pierre-Marc made excellent recommendations & ensured that every need was met without being overbearing.
Now, the food…divine. Every dish was a celebration of flavor & creativity. You can tell the chefs put passion & precision into everything they prepare. The ingredients were incredibly fresh, & the presentation was beautiful - almost too pretty to eat (but we did, & we were blown away). Each bite was perfectly balanced, bold, & satisfying.
Whether you're a foodie or just looking for a special night out, Umamia is the kind of place that will leave a lasting impression. It's clear this isn't just a restaurant - it's an experience. I'll definitely be coming back - & bringing everyone I know with me!
Amazing food ! So fresh wow 😍 i've also liked the atmosphere ! Thanks
The sushi was nothing short of spectacular!
The fish was incredibly fresh!
The service was top-notch
It is definitely a must-visit
I had an amazing experience at Umamia. From the moment we arrived, the service was impeccable - fast, friendly, & professional. Our waiter was incredibly attentive, checking in just the right amount & offering thoughtful recommendations that really elevated our meal.
Following his suggestions, we shared the wasabi chips, truffle-parmesan edamame, & miso soup to start - each dish was delicious.
The sushi itself was fresh, beautifully prepared, & absolutely delicious. You can tell they prioritize quality ingredients. Every bite was balanced & flavorful.
I recommend!
Went for dinner as a larger group, staff was super accommodating to help with our reservation & amazing service during the meal. The sushi was extremely fresh & delicious, & the restaurant itself is aesthetically pleasing. Would come again :)
A true gem of a neighborhood restaurant in Griffintown! The sushi is fresh, delicious, & made with care. The BYOW concept is a great touch, & the playlist sets the perfect vibe. The service is top-notch, friendly & welcoming. If you're looking for an authentic experience, don't miss this place! Highly recommend.
Umamia is hands-down one of the best sushi spots I've ever been to. The fish is incredibly fresh, & the rolls are crafted with care, offering a perfect balance of flavors. The presentation is stunning, & the atmosphere is cozy yet elegant, making it ideal for any occasion. I'll definitely be coming back for more! Thanks to Pierre-Marc for the excellent service!
An unforgettable experience! The restaurant boasts a beautiful array of entrées that tantalize the taste buds right from the start. The amazing lobster-infused miso soup was a revelation, & we also enjoyed the crunchy & spicy nori wasabi chips. One of the unique features of this place is that it's a bring-your-own-wine spot, which is quite rare in Griffintown, making it a great option for a relaxed evening out. The mocktails were impressive as well, providing a refreshing complement to the meal. The sushi was nothing short of amazing, featuring creative & complementary flavors that showcased the chef's talent. The ingredients were super fresh, & the large portions meant we left feeling completely satisfied. To top it all off, we indulged in exquisite desserts, with the limoncello basil being a standout that I can't recommend highly enough. Furthermore, the décor of the restaurant is gorgeous & creates a warm, intimate atmosphere that's perfect for a date night.
The food was delicious but the service excruciatingly slow. We waited for 45 minutes before the waiter came to say our order was put in late & offered us chips while we waited. When the food came out we were all served at different times with my husband getting his dish when everyone else had already finished. The water pitcher was very small & we had to ask for water several times. The food was very fresh & tasty but the long wait spoiled the experience. The wait & kitchen staff seemed insufficient & inefficient for the amount of customers at the restaurant.
Best sushi place in Montreal by far! Great variety of delicious mocktails & BYOB option. Sushi & poke quality is exceptional, you can tell the fish is fresh & so flavourful. The dessert menu will please everyone's sweet tooth. The restaurant is beautiful & clean, & the great music choices only enhance the experience! Last but not least, the service is amazing! PM & his team really take it to heart to ensure their customers have a great time & it shows! Will be back soon for sure!
