UMAMI RAMEN & IZAKAYA is the very first fully vegan ramen restaurant in Montreal.
Thanks to the import of a Japanese machine for making noodles, the establishment makes its own homemade noodles from organic wheat, in addition to making its broths, Tsukemono, kombucha and sprouts! The restaurant offers several varieties of ramen and small classics of Japanese Bistronomy in a vegan version. Whether we think of okonomiyaki, gyozas, Agedashi tofu or even tempeh Tonkatsu, Cédric and his team are happy to present to you every day, from starter to dessert, these revisited Japanese classics... just a few exclusives straight out of our kitchens. And who says Izayaka, of course, says refreshing beers, sumptuous wines, intoxicating cocktails, delicate sakes and other fine wine products. At Umami Ramen, we experience cruelty-free gastronomy at its best!

I went with my family for our son birthday dinner celebration . We did a reservation & they were so nice to reserve our table near cozy corner. Staff is very friendly. The chef even brought us our appetizers (Dumplings, Karaage & Okonomiyaki) which made us feel extra special. 😍 It turned out to be a great birthday celebration dinner. The food is on a whole other level! I absolutely love Ramen...but Vegan Ramen, OMG, even better! Their Tofu appetizer is DELISH. We had the Miso spicy, Spicy Tantanmen & Tempeh Tonkatsu Ramen. Must-trys! You won't be disappointed. Oh & I have to add the fact that they managed to create a Vegan Japanese pancake Okonomiyaki with vegan mayonnaise ...what!! 🤤 It's amazingly good. Vegan or not, anyone should give it a try, you could be pleasantly surprised with all the flavours. Price is also reasonable.
The restaurant is nicely decorated, light filled & fun. Wait staff is friendly, helpful & knowledgeable. Food was creative, & really tasty. It is my third time there, this time for a small birthday celebration & the experience was everything I hoped it would be. I had noted in my reservation that it was a birthday dinner & they seated us at a really nice table, it was great! My husband is not vegan & I am, he loved all of the food. Would highly recommend.
The mapo tofu ramen was fantastic! Full of sichuan pepper flavors, with shungiku (chrisanthemum) & kimchi. I'm usually not a big fan of silk tofu but here it fit perfectly with the bowl. They also have a very nice collection of cocktails: I had the enoki negroni where the mushroom taste was a nice addition, & the grilling of enoki just before serving a fantastic idea. I know several heavy meat-eaters who love this vegan place. A restaurant extremely recommended for everyone!
Amazing Japanese vegan food in Montreal! The service & waitress were amazing too. The mapo tofu ramen & the desserts were delicious!! I strongly recommend & for sure I'll be back to try the whole menu!
My favorite vegan restaurant. Love the creativity & the beauty of the plate. The employees are very kind.
Expérience gustative incroyable. Pour quelqu'un de non vegan, belle découverte!
My partner & I came for the tasting menu. I would give it a 3/5. Everything was very average. Although it looked aesthetic, the taste was often boring/bland. The best parts were the crepe + the dessert but everything else was something I wouldn't find worth ordering again (it needed more spice or even salt). My cocktail was also not that great. Service was slow but this typically the experience in montreal vs other large cities. It was my second time coming here. The first time I got the ramen & also wasn't the biggest fan of the type of noodle. After coming twice, I don't think it's on the top of my list to revisit. Although I will still make it out for their new gyoza location, as I would like to give it a try. Of course I recommend you to come yourself. This is my friends favourite vegan restaurant in town, but it hasn't hit the mark for me personally.
Ramen Vegan de qualité dans une ambiance tamisée & convivial - Je recommande !
Définitivement dans mon top 3 des meilleurs restaurants vegan de Montréal. Excellent service & carte des vins bien recherchée.
Best vegan ramen in Montreal... however the poor service & very unpleasant atmosphere kind of takes away from the actual food experience. If you don't want to be rushed to eat while waiting 30+mins for your food to actually come, id recommend ordering take out. You'll avoid having to watch your waiter eat on the side whilst starving at your table 🙃. . Again, good food but best to just take out...that service doesn't even deserve the minimum tip. Ps: this happened on multiple occasions, not just this once.
Rly great vegan food! The plates are pretty big so you won't be leaving the restaurant hungry!
We were excited to try this restaurant because of our love for ramen & having all items vegan. We came away disappointed due to the long wait for our meals & the quality of ramen was not to the standard of the reviews posted.
3rd time going & never fails. Brought a non vegan friend & he was really impressed with the food . We shared the Okonomiyaki & the dumplings to start with & both were excellent, especially the Okonomiyaki. I had the tantanmen ramen & it was very flavourful. Good have been a bit more spicy though. The service was also excellent & our waiter took the time to walk us through the menu & check in on us throughout the meal despite it being a very busy night .
A wonderfully surprising take on vegan Japanese Izakaya grub. The yuzu lemonade is a must 😋
