UMAMI RAMEN & IZAKAYA is the very first fully vegan ramen restaurant in Montreal.
Thanks to the import of a Japanese machine for making noodles, the establishment makes its own homemade noodles from organic wheat, in addition to making its broths, Tsukemono, kombucha and sprouts! The restaurant offers several varieties of ramen and small classics of Japanese Bistronomy in a vegan version. Whether we think of okonomiyaki, gyozas, Agedashi tofu or even tempeh Tonkatsu, Cédric and his team are happy to present to you every day, from starter to dessert, these revisited Japanese classics... just a few exclusives straight out of our kitchens. And who says Izayaka, of course, says refreshing beers, sumptuous wines, intoxicating cocktails, delicate sakes and other fine wine products. At Umami Ramen, we experience cruelty-free gastronomy at its best!

The ramen's weren't the best i've ever had & the portions were tiny. Especially the fermented appetizer plate. It was so small it felt like a joke. The waiting staff was what saved the whole experience but to be honest I will not come back. I can make better food at home for about 1/10th of the price we paid.
Price is reasonable. Food is hit & miss depending on the dish. The tantanmen was extremely salty. I couldn't taste the flavours because of the salt. Curry ramen was good & not too salty. If a lot of reviews are complaining about the salt levels then they should fix this issue. Overall, we will not come back because of the poor service & okay food - waited almost an hour just for 2 bowls of ramen.
We could tell that the quality was great, but the 4 of us agreed that the meals were way too salty, especially the tofu in the miso ramens we took. We did appreciate our first courses though. The decor is very nice, however the place is kinda loud (but I have the feeling that's all Montréal places are loud..).
Delicious all vegan menu. I hope they keep the Mapo Tofu ramen on the menu, it has a great broth. Very filling & comforting
We loved it here. Every dish was wonderful. Loved the cold ramen! Our server was also a delight.
Was very disappointed with the Ramen I had. I ordered the Spicy Miso Ramen & it was so overly salty it was borderline inedible. The only flavours I could taste was salt overload & a bit of heat from the chili peppers. Was totally flavourless otherwise. We had wanted to order the tasting menu, but not a single spicy dish was included with that, & everything on it looked too mild for our taste. Unless they change their tasting menu in future to include more interesting flavours, we won't go back, as the Ramen is not worth it, & will push your blood pressure through the roof with its way-too-much salt content. Hope the restaurant takes feedback & drastically reduces the amount of salt it adds to its meals. Many customers have commented on this problem.
The atmosphere was very cute! We sat on the covered terrasse (patio). The food was nicely presented & looked good. However the restaurant lost points for the wait time. Also the flavours were really strong & salty & not something I would go back for again. The ramen noodles also lacked the signature chewiness texture. The service wasn't great but the server noticed she had made an error, apologized for the wait & brought us free dessert. While there were many elements that were good about the restaurant - overall the wait time (over 45 min) made it hard for us to imagine returning.
Pour ma part, le service a été impeccable! Mon copain & moi avons adorés nos ramens. J'ai pris le curry tempeh tonkatsu & il a pris épicé kimchi. Le beigne & le sorbet yuzu étaient également délicieux.
Incredibly slow service & ramen oozing in salt with barely any veggies... went for the first time, don't think I'll come back unfortunately.
The best vegan restaurant in montreal offering savoury dishes & always a great experience. I recommend the kimchi ramen & the donut but everything on the menu is exceptional. If I could give more stars I would! The team is great too.
The servers were very kind & helpful. My phone had very low battery & they helped me charge it. They were always super attentive. The food was some of the best I have ever had. I am a big fan of fermented foods so I was very happy they had a side of fermented items, each of them delicious. The ramen was amazing as well, every single item in it had a distinct flavour & they were all fantastic. I had the sorbet for the dessert & it was just fine to be honest, probably wouldn't order it again. However, I will definitely return here!
LOVE this beautiful & cozy little restaurant! I went with my family for our son birthday dinner celebration . We did a reservation & they were so nice to reserve our table near cozy corner. Staff is very friendly. The chef even brought us our appetizers (Dumplings, Karaage & Okonomiyaki) which made us feel extra special. 😍 It turned out to be a great birthday celebration dinner. The food is on a whole other level! I absolutely love Ramen...but Vegan Ramen, OMG, even better! Their Tofu appetizer is DELISH. We had the Miso spicy, Spicy Tantanmen & Tempeh Tonkatsu Ramen. Must-trys! You won't be disappointed. Oh & I have to add the fact that they managed to create a Vegan Japanese pancake Okonomiyaki with vegan mayonnaise ...what!! 🤤 It's amazingly good. Vegan or not, anyone should give it a try, you could be pleasantly surprised with all the flavours. Price is also reasonable.
We got 2 soups to go. Hopefully the experience on site is better than the take out experience. Our order took a good 50 mins to be ready. Once at home, the soups were luke warm (ate 5 mins after picking up the order). The tofu seemed rubbery & the broth itself did not seem as rich as a ramen broth would - the tangy fermented cabbage negated the umami flavour. The portions were quite small for the price.
The mapo tofu ramen was fantastic! Full of sichuan pepper flavors, with shungiku (chrisanthemum) & kimchi. I'm usually not a big fan of silk tofu but here it fit perfectly with the bowl. They also have a very nice collection of cocktails: I had the enoki negroni where the mushroom taste was a nice addition, & the grilling of enoki just before serving a fantastic idea. I know several heavy meat-eaters who love this vegan place. A restaurant extremely recommended for everyone!
Amazing Japanese vegan food in Montreal! The service & waitress were amazing too. The mapo tofu ramen & the desserts were delicious!! I strongly recommend & for sure I'll be back to try the whole menu!
Food was a little too spicy & the sauce too sweet & thick for the Mapo tofu ramen. We didn't feel like someone was our server so we didn't know whom to ask for the bill & whom to ask again when it felt like they had forgotten us.
My partner & I came for the tasting menu. I would give it a 3/5. Everything was very average. Although it looked aesthetic, the taste was often boring/bland. The best parts were the crepe + the dessert but everything else was something I wouldn't find worth ordering again (it needed more spice or even salt). My cocktail was also not that great. Service was slow but this typically the experience in montreal vs other large cities. It was my second time coming here. The first time I got the ramen & also wasn't the biggest fan of the type of noodle. After coming twice, I don't think it's on the top of my list to revisit. Although I will still make it out for their new gyoza location, as I would like to give it a try. Of course I recommend you to come yourself. This is my friends favourite vegan restaurant in town, but it hasn't hit the mark for me personally.
