Had a company holiday party here & for the name & location that was provided to us, we had a good amount of expection but a big NO.
The place has a nice decor, a good ambiance & ok selections of music from the DJ.
The group menu of $65 per person comes with mix of 4 appetizers & main course options to choose. ($5 extra for 6oz steak & fries, $8 extra for crispy chicken burger).
That's an average of $30 per person for the appetizer & $35 for the main course & we were over 80 people or more approximately (Drinks paid separately of course), which is quite decent for the location in downtown.
The food was a big disappointment though. We knew that the portions were small & the group menu price was decent but we weren't expecting such low quality at a high-end location like this.
The appetizers were served throughout cocktail hour & before the main course as well. I am wondering why chicken skewers served 3 times more than beef salad & salmon tartare (replacing mango salad) during the cocktail hour..?
The chicken on the skewer was smelling odd & sprinkles of chili peppers to probably make it taste'Thai' (Thai food doesn't always have to be spicy to be Thai). The coleslaw served with chicken wings were creamy but completely tasteless & peanut butter dressing in the rice noodle in beef salad was not seasoned at all, out of rice wine vinegar & sugar in the kitchen?
Crispy chicken burgers ($28 on regular menu, extra $8 on the group menu?): nice thick crispy patty but lacking flavor in the sauce & very greasy + so much fries to make it even more greasy. More than half people who took this option left more than over 70% of the plate.
Salmon poke bowl; so much dill sprinkled all over the steam rice & edamame, is it because it's fish & wanted it fusion? Why is there so much mayo sauce (literally mayo + sriracha, anyone can do) & still taste bland. There are only 6-7 pcs of tiny pieces of salmon with all of the above. Poke bowls are quite popular, could anyone in the kitchen go try at other poke bowl restaurant & see what the difference is.
Steak & fries ($30 on regular menu, extra $5 on the group menu); the steak was obviously very tiny (6 oz; 180gram) & same kind of chewy meat as thai beef salad. Not sure why extra $5.
Kalbifornia love ($39 on the regular menu) Since when was the sourdough bread was replaced by'Grilled Pom bread' & where is massaman curry? there were 3 pieces of smelly beef blade cut with tasteless watery sauce with tasteless arugula salad, are you serious this cost $39 on the regular menu.
The waiter who was serving poke bowls told us he was serving us'Pad thai' when we were asking which plate it was...Do you train employees about the food they serve?
There are 2 toilets downstairs & both of them smelled like'xxxx' throughout the night, people go there for dinner, parties & dance for special occasions & they tend to dress up a bit. sorry to say but I almost threw up my dinner each time i walked in. Please clean the bathrooms before serving guests for dinner. Dirty bathrooms at highend location does not look great at all.
Food, level of service & cleanliness must be improved to keep up with the standard of the venue. I know the person who occasionally came here & was advised that the food has changed a lot this time. You know we're in Montreal, there are so many better options in downtown.
I recently went here for my birthday &, honestly, I regret it a lot. I was so excited because it's a'throwback super club,' but I didn't even stay long enough for it to actually turn into a club. The inside is very aesthetic & well-decorated (cute & thoughtfully done ) but the crowd was much older than us (we're all 20), so the vibe just wasn't really our scene.
Now, let's talk about the most important part & the reason I'm rating this place a 2/5: the Food
Funky Mojito - 2.9/5
Pretty mid. Nothing terrible, but nothing special either. Definitely below-average compared to mojitos I've had before. The chili didn't add much flavor, just a tiny bit of spice. Could've been much better.
ASAP Strawberry - 4/5
I liked this one! You could taste a little alcohol, but not too much. Honestly, it reminded me of a Starbucks strawberry açaí lemonade.
LL Cool Juice - 4.85/5
Easily the best one. It was oddly thick, which weirded me out at first, but it was super tasty.
Overall, the drinks were decent probably the best thing I had all night.
Now for the worst part: the food.
I have never been so disappointed in my life.
Pad Thai - 3/5
This didn't really taste like pad thai. More like teriyaki. Thai Express does it 15x better. While it was edible, the chicken was overcooked with a weird taste. Average at best.
Steak - 1/5
This was the real downfall of my night. I thought the $29 steak deal was amazing & was so excited to have my favorite meal for my birthday. I ordered medium rare I know what medium rare looks like but what they brought me was basically still mooing. Completely raw in the middle.
I sent it back (staff were nice about it), & when it came back it was definitely better, the sauce on top was extremely bitter so much so that I had to chug my drink to get rid of the taste, & I could still taste it afterward. I forced down maybe 2-3 bites before giving up. Horrible.
I don't like arugula, so I didn't touch the salad. The fries were good & well seasoned, but they mistakenly put a piece of bacon on them & I strictly cannot eat pork. I understand mistakes happen, but with so many people & religious groups who don't eat pork, that's a pretty big oversight & one that made me quite unhappy especially since i don't eat it for religious reasons.
They did compensate my meal, which I appreciate, & our waitress (wish I remembered her name) was super kind & attentive. Honestly, she made the service the only redeeming part of the evening.
But overall? They ruined my 20th birthday dinner a night I won't forget, but for all the wrong reasons. Sad & disappointed. I won't be coming back.
⭐ 2/5 - I REALLY wanted to like it… but it missed the mark. (BIG TIME!)
As a foodie, millennial hip-hop lover, & mom entrepreneur with Lao/Thai roots, I walked in excited for a night off from cooking & some good vibes - but sadly, it just didn't live up to the hype.
For our first visit - & a date night - we were seated all the way upstairs in a poorly lit corner, despite the place being FAR from full for a saturday night. The upstairs vibe felt flat & disconnected, which was a major bummer for a place known for its energy & ambiance.
The decor & our server were both nice, & the food came out relatively quickly after we finally placed our order - which took nearly 30 minutes.
But the real letdown? The drinks. We waited nearly AN HOUR for a cocktail, which didn't arrive until during our meal. We were parched... My'Painkilla' was overly sweet, barely had a hint of alcohol, & was overpriced for what it was.
As for the food: our pad thai was OVERLY salty, borderline inedible. When I told the young waitress the food was'just okay', there was no attempt to make it right or elevate the experience.
Also worth noting: my husband is lactose intolerant & not a fan of Thai kaffir lime or curry, so the menu didn't offer much for him either.
NOTE : This is not authentic Thai cuisine. Don't get it twisted. Want the real deal? Go to Thammada instead!
Overall, it's a beautiful space & the branding is very well done (I'll give them that! ) - but the service, food, & timing were disappointing. I walked in excited & left feeling let down. I really wanted to love this place... but it just wasn't good... I can't recommend it.
First time visit The Farsides, We are ordering group menu $65 pp. The restaurant is nice decor, live music with dJ , staffs are friendly but foods service is too slow & foods taste just ok . Not satisfied.
Great place to grab a drink & a bite with friends. The decor, ambiance, & music are straight vibes. Excellent service from Sadya & the team.
Great spot to go grab a bite & hang out with friends & colleagues, the vibe is super chill & the decor is incredible, amazing service from Sadya & her staff
Was referred by a colleague at work who loves old school hip hop as much as I do & had high hopes for this place…
Sadly, didn't live up to expectations…
Drinks? Beer? What beer? Only had 3 choices, given craft beers' popularity it's very disappointing. At least Painkiller cocktail was delicious!
Food was ordinary & not good value for money, & we tried lots: fresh coast ceviche with 4-5 half slices of shrimp, imperial rolls tiny, mango salad, pineapple Tao chicken mostly batter not chicken, only good value was Pad Thai.
Atmosphere & decor are nice but cannot make up for food & beer!
One of the greatest restaurants in the entirety of Montreal. They have a unique cuisine that can satisfy anyone. I recommend trying the entire menu. The decor is also one of the strengths of Farsides. I can honestly say that I would come just to look around without eating anything. This is the place to bring everyone you know.
Went here on a snowy day. Didn't have a reservation but we got into eat easily enough. The place had a nice vibe, cool decor & friendly staff. The pad Thai was very salty & the pork dish as well. The pad Thai portion was big. The food was well presented & when we mentioned the saltiness they gave us a lovely mango cheesecake to take away. The cheesecake was delicious. Service was great & the music created a chilled ambience. Didn't have any drinks here.
The atmosphere of the place, the decor is great, unfortunately food & service is really average. They have a max 2 hours per table, so it's not really a place to hang out with friends.
All Talk, No Game. The Farsides boast a fun & funky atmosphere, with cool decor & upbeat attitude. Their menu & staff are bilingual so there are no communication issues if you are from out of town. Service was very helpful & eager to make our experience as delightful as possible... from explaining the menu in detail, offering up options & even coming to the rescue to fix our wobbly table. The two stars comes from the sheer disappointment of the food menu. Although it all reads very well (such as combinations that would be great together) ...that's where it ends. We ordered three items to share between the two of us. The "Signature" Crispy Wings, Bangkok Street Skewers & the Pad Thai. Let's start with the Signature Crispy Wings. In pictures they look fantastic, it's actually what brought us into the restaurant in the first place, but they were overly "battered" creating this very thick crust that was hard to bite through. Not only that but the sauce they were tossed in was bland & boring... Coupled with a coconut ranch sauce that was an attempt at being creative, but the combination of thick crust & watery "coconut only" flavour sauce was rough. Throw in a side of coleslaw that also seemed to be tossed in the same watery coconut sauce & it was literally a recipe for disaster. Incredibly difficult to finish. The Bangkok Street Skewers weren't anything to write home about, overcooked, chewy, bland & boring. Lastly the Pad Thai. Three strikes & you are out. Again, heavily lacking in flavour, super greasy, with incredibly overcooked chicken & shrimp. (My jaw shouldn't hurt after eating) It was made with cashews instead of the traditional peanuts (which in comparison cashews heavily lack in flavour). I understand if you want to avoid allergens, but the flavour in the rest of the dish needs to compensate for it. Unfortunately this dish relied on that missing ingredient & fell flat. All in all I would not recommend eating at this establishment. I can tell the entire menu needs a complete revamp just with the three dishes we had. Either that or whoever is running the kitchen needs to make a swift exit. I feel the passion within this restaurant...you feel it in the energy when you enter, you feel it in the staff, you see it splattered on the walls. It's hard to deny that the creator made such an extraordinary space, but it did not translate to the food. Someone needs to get out of that kitchen, & someone equally as passionate about food needs to be put in it. Act fast Farsides, or soon you'll see your profits turn to deficits.
Great spot to have drinks with your friends, drinks come out fairly quicker than other spots. Overall good vibes with the ambiance & decor if you're into hiphop & rap.
The atmosphere was very cool. I enjoyed the music & the decor. It was unfortunate that despite making a reservation for two, over a week ago, they somehow didn't have a table for us. Annoying but whatever the bar was fine. The service was mid. It took a while to be acknowledged after we sat. The drink I ordered, a Mai Thai was not like any other Mai Thai I've ever had, & not in a good way. It was very carbonated & light. Mai Thais are a traditional drink, & they totally missed the mark on it. It wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't $18CAD. I made the mistake of ordering the Thai Basil Rib Eye for $59CAD. It was extremely fatty, & the plate had 1000 flavors going on, but none of them were Thai basil. The fries were good but very salty. This was supposed to be our big fun dinner out for our weekend in Montreal, & it was extremely disappointing. If you enjoy Thai food, don't be deceived cause this isn't it. If you want to look cool on Instagram & leave hungry, check it out.
For the money, the food here is not worth it in my opinion. I can appreciate the atmosphere, however. Definitely a unique restaurant with a fun decor. The DJ in the front was a nice touch as well. As for the food, generally speaking, everything just seemed overpriced & underwhelming. Specifically the burger, fries, & the pineapple chicken appetizer. All left something to be desired in terms of flavor & texture. The drinks are also quite expensive for not much content.
The Farsides... What can I say - this place has a special spot in my heart as we are planning something special here next year. From the minute we walked in the door, we were treated like royalty by both the staff & management. Everyone was SO friendly, kind, & amazing to have coming by our table. The drinks & food were to die for (honestly can't wait to eat here again STAT) & perfect for sharing across the table. My father-in-law can be particular with tastes & even he enjoyed the food - I don't think he put the burger down for a second because he was enjoying it so thoroughly. I can't say enough good things! There is so much to enjoy & explore here - your eyes will always find something new in the decor & the ambiance is so cool. We are so looking forward to wowing our friends in your space next year & will be back before that for sure. 15/10 recommend!
Visited a Sunday night, so can't comment too much on ambiance or vibes as it was very calm. But decor was very cool, looks like a fun place. The food was good. Shared ceviche, skewers, chicken wings & a pad thai. I LOVED the chicken wings, whereas my partner adored the lemongrass pork skewer. The ceviche was good, but served on a tostada, which was not easily consumed. Pad Thai was good, but I don't know if it merited the price. Chicken, shrimp & tofu, but the tofu was the most prominent protein. The nuts were toasted which is a nice feature. Service was fine, not as attentive as I'd expect given that the restaurant was not that busy. Had wine, did not try their cocktails which are $20 each.
