Sushi Nishinokaze Montreal Restaurant: Menu, Reviews & Reserve (2026)
JapaneseCreativeSushiFine Dining / Upscale

Sushi Nishinokaze is an intimate, 8-seat Edomae sushiya in Montreal, led by Canada and Japan trained chef-owner Vincent Gee.

Nishinokaze, which translates to "West Wind," reflects his mission to showcase the pristine natural flavor of both local and imported wild seafood.

The foundation of our cuisine, the shari (sushi rice), is crafted using naturally grown rice and artisanal red vinegar sourced directly from the producers.

Our space was designed by acclaimed Montreal and Tokyo-born architects Justin Nguyen (David Adjaye, SHoP) and Taichi Kuma (Tailand, Kengo Kuma and Associates), blending old world and modern design language seamlessly.

Review Summary

Sushi Nishinokaze is described across reviews as an exceptional omakase that rivals the best in Tokyo, with authentic Edomae technique, seasonal fish, and meticulously prepared courses that feel both precise and soulful. The atmosphere is intimate and calm, with understated entrance and elegant ceramics that emphasize the cooking rather than show, and service that is attentive, discreet, and passionate about the craft. Guests praise the pairing options, including sake and wine, and highlight gluten free accommodations, efficient yet unhurried pacing, and the no tipping policy that makes the experience feel focused on the fare. Taken together, the restaurant is regarded as a standout destination in Montreal for sushi lovers and a true hidden gem, frequently described as memorable, high quality, and worth the trip.

I had the privilege of experiencing edomae at its best at Sushi Nishinokaze. The attention to detail, commitment to fresh Japan & locally sourced ingredients resulted in a truly unforgettable culinary journey. The Japanese pottery & jazzy vibes enhanced the simplistic atmosphere along with its impeccable service. A must-visit for anyone seeking an unforgettable evening.

Really happy that we get to finally have something of this level in MTL. The owners' love of tradition & craft exudes from every inch of this place, going so far as to source their ingredients from Japan. It is the only sushi restaurant I've been to here that rivals experiences I've had in Japan.
