Sushi Nishinokaze Montreal Restaurant: Menu, Reviews & Reserve (2026)
JapaneseCreativeSushiResto-Bar

Sushi Nishinokaze is an intimate, 8-seat Edomae sushiya in Montreal, led by Canada and Japan trained chef-owner Vincent Gee.

Nishinokaze, which translates to "West Wind," reflects his mission to showcase the pristine natural flavor of both local and imported wild seafood.

The foundation of our cuisine, the shari (sushi rice), is crafted using naturally grown rice and artisanal red vinegar sourced directly from the producers.

Our space was designed by acclaimed Montreal and Tokyo-born architects Justin Nguyen (David Adjaye, SHoP) and Taichi Kuma (Tailand, Kengo Kuma and Associates), blending old world and modern design language seamlessly.

As a “living gallery,” we present ancient and contemporary ceramics in their most beautiful state: in use. Our unparalleled collection, which changes monthly, spans over 5,000 years of Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Vietnamese, Middle Eastern, and Western pottery.

We offer a carefully curated selection of rare sake, Burgundy, Champagne, and natural wines.

Review Summary

Reviews describe Sushi Nishinokaze as a rare, world-class omakase experience in Montreal, equal to or surpassing renowned spots in Tokyo and NYC. Guests highlight Edo-style sushi with exceptional, seasonally focused fish sourced from Japan and locally, served in a calm, intimate setting with warm wood tones and carefully curated ceramics and tableware that feel like art. The service is consistently attentive, discreet, and knowledgeable, with chefs who explain provenance and technique, and a no-tipping policy that aligns with a traditional Japanese approach. The atmosphere, paired with light jazz and a spa-like pace, allows for a relaxed sequence of courses where every bite shows balance, precision, and reverence for craft. Reviews emphasize the immersive sense of travel to Tokyo and appreciation for artistry in sourcing, plating, and storytelling, noting standout pieces such as tuna and Matane shrimp, and praising the sake pairing and concise wine list. Overall, it is regarded as the top sushi destination in the city by many, a must-visit for lovers of authentic edomae and luxury dining.

This is a top-tier edomae dining experience in Montréal. The intimate atmosphere, the comfortable pace of the meal, the warm wood tones & jazz in the background. Each bite was wonderful. If you want to celebrate a special occasion or are just a sushi lover, this is a great place to do it. The chef is clearly very passionate about his work & takes time to explain each question in detail with enthusiasm. I can't recommend this place enough.

Nothing short of world-class, delivering an experience on par with (if not better than) legendary spots like Shion in NYC & Shoushin in Toronto.

Julian & Vincent's passion for craft is evident in every bite-from the meticulous sourcing of the finest ingredients to their masterful execution. Each course is a showcase of precision, balance, & depth of flavor (Can you say UMAMI?!?!), making for an unforgettable dining experience. The attention to detail & reverence for tradition are second to none.

This is the kind of place that keeps calling you back, & I'll be returning very, very often. What an experience, thank you for bringing your talents to this city.
