Sushi Nishinokaze Montreal Restaurant: Menu, Reviews & Reserve (2026)
JapaneseCreativeSushiResto-Bar

Sushi Nishinokaze is an intimate, 8-seat Edomae sushiya in Montreal, led by Canada and Japan trained chef-owner Vincent Gee.

Nishinokaze, which translates to "West Wind," reflects his mission to showcase the pristine natural flavor of both local and imported wild seafood.

The foundation of our cuisine, the shari (sushi rice), is crafted using naturally grown rice and artisanal red vinegar sourced directly from the producers.

Our space was designed by acclaimed Montreal and Tokyo-born architects Justin Nguyen (David Adjaye, SHoP) and Taichi Kuma (Tailand, Kengo Kuma and Associates), blending old world and modern design language seamlessly.

As a “living gallery,” we present ancient and contemporary ceramics in their most beautiful state: in use. Our unparalleled collection, which changes monthly, spans over 5,000 years of Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Vietnamese, Middle Eastern, and Western pottery.

We offer a carefully curated selection of rare sake, Burgundy, Champagne, and natural wines.

Review Summary

Sushi Nishinokaze is described as a world-class edomae dining experience, with meticulous sourcing of seasonal fish, precise technique, and an intimate, club-like atmosphere. Reviews praise the understated, nonflashy setting, the harmony of simple ingredients, and the artful, ceramic presentation that accompanies each course. The menu blends Japanese tradition with local Canadian suppliers, offering a progression of courses that showcase balance, umami, and thoughtful aging. Service is consistently noted as warm, discreet, and highly knowledgeable, with a no tipping policy that aligns with a refined, Japanese-influenced hospitality ethos. Sake pairings and curated wine options, along with the chef's engaging explanations, enhance the tasting and leave diners feeling transported, often likening the experience to traveling to Japan. It's like you sleepwalked into a plane to Tokyo & woke up right in there. Phenomenal to have this in Montreal. I was lucky enough to do a few edomae right in Tokyo & in NYC & this is absolutely on par with what I experienced. The produce is all seasonal & the care by the chef & staff is outstanding.
Cannot recommend enough if you want to have a luxury sushi experience.

This is a top-tier edomae dining experience in Montréal. The intimate atmosphere, the comfortable pace of the meal, the warm wood tones & jazz in the background. Each bite was wonderful. If you want to celebrate a special occasion or are just a sushi lover, this is a great place to do it. The chef is clearly very passionate about his work & takes time to explain each question in detail with enthusiasm. I can't recommend this place enough.
