Since 1957, St-Viateur Bagel has been a central part of the culture and daily life of Montreal. Its legendary landmark bagel shop operates 24/7 and sells over 1,000 dozen bagels a day.
St-Viateur Bagel offers a classic Montreal bagel experience with wood-fired bagels baked right in front of customers, a crisp exterior and chewy center, especially the sesame classic, and reviews praise fresh and hot bagels and quick in-and-out service. Some say the place is cash-only and takeaway focused, with lines that sometimes test patience, while others note the atmosphere can be minimal or unpretentious but the craft and aroma shine through. A few reviews mention bagels not always fresh or a bit hard, and a handful caution about the no seating policy, but most celebrate the iconic status, consistent quality, and the ability to watch the bagel making process. Many travelers say it is among the best bagels in Montreal, with others cherishing the experience enough to stock up for a long drive home or to share with family, and a note that a second store exists nearby to choose if something is not hot out of the oven. Overall, the place is seen as a must visit for wood-fired, freshly baked bagels, with devotion to the craft and a reliable, if sometimes crowded, performance.
Une adresse à tester absolument 😍😍 Des bagels frais & de qualité (tout donne envie) servis avec un service simple, rapide & souriant. Que demander de plus ? Je recommande le classic sésame, pavot & romarin sel de mer !
They only accept cash. With that out of the way, they do serve fresh bagels in different flavors & they all tasted great. Service was fast & efficient & they do have some souvenirs for sale too.
Visiting from Florida, somebody recommended this place, as I was approaching I met the owner on the street who warmly invited us inside to try the bagels. He did not let me pay, & only asked me to enjoy them in the beautiful afternoon! Amazing. Needless to say the bagels were awesome!
There are 2 locations on the street which is their originally location. The main one i think is mostly making for sale in stores. Famous bagel shop, mostly just takeout.
