Schwartz's Deli est largement décrite comme une institution montréalaise, célèbre pour sa viande fumée emblématique, une ambiance de deli old school et des sandwiches généreux que beaucoup décrivent comme fondants en bouche; malgré les longues files, le service est généralement rapide et efficace et la file avance souvent rapidement, avec un comptoir à emporter juste à côté pour les pressés. Our hostess/ waitress was helpful & friendly as she hustled during this busy lunch hour. Poutine was great & the first bites of the smoked meat sandwich were amazing. Our party of four made conversation with a pair of brothers seated at our table & made for fun experience for all.
Stopped by on a Friday night, there was a line out the door but they move really quickly, especially if you opt to sit at the bar. The menu is pretty straight forward smoke meat. Got the smoke meat sandwich fries & a pickles & it was great. The protein was tender & moist, & the portions are satisfying.
Took some medium-fat meat. It was dryer than what I would have liked. Thing is, if I had taken fatty only, it would have been too much for me. Prepare to pay, unlike other smoked meat places, the plates do not include fries, coleslaw, pickle nor a drink (pop). All those are extras.
They have been around forever for a reason! The service was amazingly friendly & the food is always top notch! This is the must visit spot in Montreal!
You come for the experience- not to sit, chat & stay for a meal with friends. There is usually a line up from what I gather; we waited about 10 minutes before being seated. Seats are close quartered so you are likely sitting next to people you don't know- everyone keeps to themselves & comes to eat their food & leave so I didn't see an issue with this as it is apart of the "Schwart'z experience." My partner has always raved about Schwart'z as his family & him always go when they come to Montreal, this was my first time coming here & his hype lived up to the standards. We ordered 2 smoked meat sandwiches on rye with pickles on the side; DELICIOUS. My partner says they taste how he remembers them, as it's been a while since he had gone. You can tell when the orders go out as the place goes QUIET from everyone enjoying their food. Big fan & will definitely be back the next time I'm in Montreal!
Ordered a smoke meat sandwich & steak. Both were amazing to share. Highly recommend the pickle as your side. Service was quick, & the guys were friendly. Didn't go at the busiest time so we got what I felt would be more of a local experience.

This restaurant does two things right, sort of! One: Great marketing for a really lousy, nasty restaurant. Two: Speedy service but that's because the restaurant is treated like a production line.
We arrived at 11:40 in the morning & there was no line up. Upon entering we immediately noticed that it was dirty & cramped. In fact, so cramped we were seated with strangers & required to share condiments. This is the norm & not exceptional.
The waiter who informed us there were no combos, although they are clearly on the menu, was rushed, inattentive, unhelpful & definitely lacking charm. Our order was taken almost immediately. My fries & my husband's poutine came first. About five minutes later came our smoked meat sandwiches by which time our fries were cold. The fries & poutine were both lacking seasoning. The gravy on the poutine was thick, cold & bland. The smoked meat sandwiches were incredibly dry on stale bread & very little mustard. The meat fell apart not because it was tender but because it was brittle. The best thing we had were the soft drinks & that's probably because they came in a can otherwise fountain soft drinks would probably have been a disaster as well. They were also very necessary in order to wash those dry sandwiches down our throats.
Our bill was handed to us while we were still mid-meal. We paid our $50.00 & were out by 12:00 (20 minutes total) by which point there was a line up outside.
This restaurant is severely overrated. It is not only the worst smoked meat I've ever eaten, it is the worst restaurant at which I've ever eaten period. What kind of icon & institution is that? You can literally get better smoked meat anywhere, perhaps even in a dumpster. Go anywhere else!
I've lived in Montreal for over 20 years; only recently went to try this Montreal staple on F1 weekend, given there was no line-up. However, I don't understand why this place is so hyped up. The smoke meat was different, but not necessarily better than other places in Montreal.
I won't comment on service, as I took takeout, but even takeout was not too friendly.
Ce resto est un attrape touristes. Il est aussi très cher pour la quantité de viande servie.
Si vous commandez pour emporter, ne vous laissez pas avoir lorsque vous payez, ne donnez pas de pourboire, ce n'est pas du tout necessaire.
Le personnel n'est pas chaleureux. Vous commandez, & sortez.
Il y a d'autres très bon resto à Montréal qui servent aussi du smoked meat; La Main, Pete's.
This place is a tourist trap. It is very expensive for the quantity served.
If you order to go, do not leave a tip.
The employees are not too friendly, you eat, & get out.
