We went for Valentine's Day & overall had a decent experience. The set menu was very reasonably priced, especially for the occasion, & the service was good. A special shoutout to the woman who stepped in on what was clearly a busy night, she was warm, attentive, & great.
The food was a mix. Some real highlights: the mushroom arancini bite was excellent, the magret de canard was very well done, & the dessert was my coup de coeur of the evening. However, the morue was quite disappointing (especially since it's usually something we love), & the tuna entrée felt very basic & lacked flavor. The braised veal was just okay.
The ambiance was also average. We were seated at the back near the kitchen hallway with storage directly behind our table, which made it feel less intimate than expected for Valentine's Day. It may have just been our table or the busy evening, but overall we left a little disappointed.
Wow! Delicious food, generous portions, attentive but unobtrusive service... honestly, one of the best meals I've had in a long time. The young chef & his staff deserve to be recognized! We will certainly be back soon; an absolute delight!
Fantastic meal! The food was absolutely delicious… fresh, flavorful, & perfectly prepared. What really made the night was the excellent service from Duncan. He was attentive, friendly, & made me feel very welcome. A wonderful overall experience. I'll be back!
Cozy Italian restaurant in the heart of Griffintown with a warm, inviting atmosphere.
We've visited twice now, & every single time the food has been outstanding. We've tried all of the pasta dishes, as well as the burrata, focaccia, & arancini, & each item has been consistently excellent. Every person we've brought here has loved their meal, which says a lot about the consistency of the kitchen.
What really elevates the experience, though, is the service. The staff genuinely make you feel taken care of from start to finish. They're friendly, attentive, & always courteous, creating an experience that makes you want to keep coming back.
I am not one to usually write reviews, but let me tell you Sauce deserves it ! ✨ We'd heard good things from friends & went with our little group to experience the restaurant ourselves. Some of us had wine (they have a vast selection) & others cocktails. I had the Purple Rain & totally recommend it !! The food was amazing & so so TASTY ! We shared appetizers & mains. Portions are perfect for sharing if you want to taste more than one thing on their menu. The calamari was so fresh & my favorite starter & loved loooved the Branzino 🐟 ! The staff was incredibly friendly & attentive !! The Chef even sent bigger dessert portions knowing we were a group so we could all have a good taste of everything ! They even offered us Limoncello to finish the evening. To add to our beautiful experience, the restaurant's ambiance is welcoming & warm, the decorations are so well-thought & curated, & so was the music. I totally recommend 🍝✨👏🏼 !!!
This is seriously a hidden gem. We sat outside on a warm summer night & felt like we were in Italy. Duncan & Natalia were fantastic, attentive & very down to earth. Will come back & recommend this place to everyone coming this way.
My recent visit to Sauce left me with mixed feelings, primarily due to the stark contrast between the lackluster food & the truly outstanding service.
From a culinary perspective, the experience was quite disappointing. The lobster ravioli I ordered was unfortunately watery, lacking the rich, concentrated flavor one expects from such a dish. Equally uninspired was the fried chicken, which arrived completely devoid of seasoning - not even a hint of salt. For anyone who appreciates good food, the offerings here simply don't measure up.
However, where the kitchen fell short, the front-of-house staff truly shined. The service was excellent throughout our meal. Our server was attentive, professional, & went above & beyond, making an otherwise forgettable meal more palatable.
We opted to sit on the terrace, which presented a missed opportunity. While it has the potential to be a beautiful outdoor dining spot, it currently feels neglected, as if the budget ran out mid-design, resulting in a hodgepodge of'beach chairs' rather than cohesive outdoor seating.
Given the significant culinary shortcomings & the uninspired ambiance, I wouldn't return. While the service was commendable, it simply isn't enough to compensate for the unappetizing food & the disjointed setting.
i stopped in here after an afternoon of painting by the canal, & we were welcomed warmly. we weren't sure if we could just get a drink, & were told we would need to eat something, which we were happy to. we were escorted to the lively courtyard, where there was music playing & a festive atmosphere.
one of us got a beautiful little salad, one ordered calmari, one had the lobster ravioli & i had oysters & gaspacho. all were more than satisfied with the food.
but it was the attentive service & the vibe that made it special. two of our camarades left, but we stayed on to enjoy the atmosphere & have another glass of wine.
we'll be back!
A fantastic new addition to the area. The service was superb, staff were fun, attentive & engaging. We enjoyed the everything we ordered very much & will go back soon. It is a new evolving menu - a few tweaks to it would bring it just a notch higher for us but please ignore the ridiculous 1 star reviews.
