Review Summary

Satu Lagi is widely praised as a standout Indonesian and Malay restaurant in Montreal, with a tapas-style format that encourages sharing and a menu that balances authentic flavors with modern flair. The dining experience is noted for extensive gluten-free and lactose-free options, appealing to celiac diners and those with dietary restrictions, and for dishes that are described as delicious, aromatic, and well balanced with lemongrass, coconut, and chili notes. Standout items include satay skewers, rendang, gado gado, nasi lemak, kailan bakar, jamur jamur, and pandan crème brûlée, along with a coconut rice base and flavorful poultry and seafood. The drinks program earns praise for creative cocktails and Indonesian coffee, though a few reviews mention that sambal can be very spicy and some dishes can feel pricey. Ambience is described as stylish and intimate with a lively open kitchen and terrace options, and service is generally attentive, with occasional notes about busy periods or slower weekends. Overall, Satu Lagi comes across as a reliable go-to for a vibrant Indonesian-Malaysian dining experience in Montreal, especially for groups or special occasions and brunch.

the food is so unique & amazing! it's a wonderful & refreshing experience to try Indonesian/Malaysian cuisine that isn't as popular like other parts of Asia's culinary game. i highly recommend the sambals, beef rendang, fried fish, jackfruit stew, the fried chicken with fermented honey, pandan crême brûlée & the pandan drink is delightful! do be prepared as Indo/Malay cooking is spicyyy!!! otherwise, the chefs really have the flavour profile down - coconut, galangal, lime, chilis, tamarind, etc. the staff & service is always great too :)

Fantastic food. Whilst it's not super authentic to Indonesian cuisine, it's the closest I've tried in Montreal. The rendang is fantastic & the satays are a classic. I recommend asking the staff to see what kind of drinks you'd prefer with the plates you end up sharing with your party.

Delicious authentic Indonesian food on Mont Royal. I love the lunch menu. Just wished they would open for lunch all week long.

Kudos to Satu Lagi!! I'm Indonesian & have been disappointed that there is not a single Indonesian restaurant in this vibrant foodie city.... until now! The food is modern-esque Indonesian cuisine with lots of the authentic flavours intact. Loved the food, loved the service, loved the vibe! Will definitely be coming back. Terima Kasih Satu Lagi! We had an amazing evening at your restaurant!

Absolutely loved this restaurant & the experience. Great atmosphere, great service, most importantly excellent food. After returning from Bali earlier this year I've been craving Indonesian food but we lack restaurants that serve authentic Indonesian dishes & flavours. Sister brought me here as she thoroughly enjoyed dining here previously. Dishes I recommend: balado udang patai (that galangal 🤩), gado gado (kangkung was cooked perfectly), tempeh satay (they do tempeh well!), ayam goreng manis (wow chili honey), rendang daging (so flavourful).

One of the very few (if not only) Indonesian inspired restaurants in Montreal, Satu Lagu was a nice place to enjoy Asian style food but of a particular savor that you would not normally be accustomed too...it's certainly not Chinese, nor Vietnamese (although closer to the latter than the former) with a lighter set of flavors & with an emphasis on umami-like essences.

Located on Mont-Royal East, the décor of the restaurant is clean, bright with hints of the cuisines' cultural roots (monkey light fixtures, rattan ceiling details, etc...) while the meal service is more tapas style than anything else. For our meal we asked our server (a very friendly & helpful Juliette) for the best-of options & went from there. We had the Ayam Goreng (plain & Manis (which is very spicy)...essentially fried chicken drumsticks but with an excellent batter), Belacan Satay (simple chicken skewers with a gritty shrimp flavored peanut sauce...good), Tauhu Telur Asin (a fried tofu dish...excellent), Kailan (a spinach/broccoli style dish with oyster sauce flavoring...good) & the House (Jasmin) Rice with Coconut flavoring (very good). For dessert we had a surprisingly excellent Pandan Creme Brule...very, very good. Finally, we paired the meal with a surprisingly appropriate beer called Doux Bisous which had a light citrus flavor & really worked well with this style of cuisine.

The food portions were on the smaller side (like tapas) however the service was done one dish at a time with the rice at the end. This was not how we eat typical meals as we prefer rice to be included & used as a base for the dish. We didn't realize this until the end but, now that we know we would have asked for the dishes to be served in quick sequence & especially for the rice to be brought earlier.

Service was very good &, as mentioned, our server was knowledgeable & helpful. Tired of the same-old Chinese & Vietnamese dishes then certainly give Satu Lagi a try. Enjoy!

Wonderful new restaurant. Eating Indonesian food this good made me a little homesick. Both cocktails & mocktails were excellent.
Only missing dish was sambal goreng boncis ;) Oh, & sambal badjak. Now hoping they will also open for lunch…

Told a friend I wasn't into Indonesian food & had been to Bali, he told me I didn't have good Indonesian food & brought me here & it changed my mind.

Everything we had was delicious! The drinks are yummy too & are made from someone off a food Netflix show. Most things have a little heat (spice to it) but not unreasonably so. Everything was tasty & tender. The tofu was awesome, never had that before.
