I really appreciated that almost every dish (except one main) can be ordered as a half portion, which is perfect for solo diners, & even the half portions were very generous. The leek & roasted mushrooms were amazing, & the beef tartare had a very unique seasoning unlike any other I've had. They also kindly offered to replace the carrots with sweet potato for me, which was such a thoughtful touch. The server gave excellent wine recommendations too. A perfect experience.
Salle Climatisée is an exceptional restaurant. Brendan took incredible care of us-curating the menu & continuously bringing out one delicious dish after another. The cabbage, chicken, beef tartare, & bread were absolute standouts. A must-visit.
Good but... I was hoping for a better gastronomical experience; we were a group of 5 so we shared all the plates on the menu. The beef tartare wasn't seasoned & had an overpowering ranch style sauce, the pork was a bit overcooked & the 2 fish dishes had a very similar sauce. It was all good but no wow from any of us..
I truly feel like I can't oversell this place. In my two visits so far, Salle has transformed my opinion of four different vegetables (for the record: leeks, chard, rutabaga & mature spinach).
Each dish I've had pairs one classic, simple aspect executed perfectly, & a surprising element.
For example, the leeks with two sunflower seed sauces, which were available both times I visited. Perfectly cooked, custardy leeks with a pair of sauces I never would have expected to be so balanced, smooth, yet distinctly flavored of sunflower seed.
Or the pork chop with chard & carrots; the pork chop itself was simple. Perfectly pan-cooked (I compared the texture to a low & slow prime rib) but accompanied by tender chard & an apple jus that was barely sweet, but so savory I was mopping up every drop with the house's lovely sourdough before letting that plate leave the table.
Other notable memories include a tartare that brought a tear to my eye, a poached pear & buckwheat cream that defied explanation, & a lovely non-alcoholic chamomile infused cranberry drink (though the wine selection is thoughtful & extensive in spite of Salle's small footprint).
The place is tiny, & the fact that I got a same-day dinner reservation still feels wrong to me. This feels like the kind of place with a waiting list, & if I had waited months instead of hours for this same meal, I would have been no less pleased.
Front & back of house staff were both friendly, happy to serve & talk with us. I left full, happy & enlightened, & I don't think you should leave Montreal without stopping by for the same treatment.
We made our reservation two weeks in advance & arrived about 10 minutes late. The staff welcomed us with no stress, which we really appreciated. That said, please don't be late-these people work hard & deserve respect for their professionalism.
From the start, everything felt well thought out: a choice of sparkling or still water, spotless cutlery, & a menu designed so your server can walk you through the details-resulting in top-notch service.
Food wasn't our main focus for the evening, except for the beef tartare, which truly stood out. It was top quality & even reminded me a little of the tartare at White Rabbit in Moscow. The team also knows how to make custom cocktails, which was a pleasant surprise. We shared dessert, corn, & a few other dishes-good, simple, & well executed.
The room was a bit loud, but in the best way: lively & full of energy, yet somehow still cozy enough that you could almost sneak a small nap. We got exactly what we were looking for-three hard-earned hours of mini-holiday vibes-joking with our waiter & soaking in the atmosphere.
My husband & I had such an enjoyable meal here. Brendan & his team were friendly, funny, attentive, & it was clear that they care so much about the food, the wine, & the guest experience. We sat at the bar which was great fun to watch the chefs at work & enjoy the bustling activity of the restaurant.
We shared a number of stellar dishes - leeks with two sunflower dressings, steak tartare, a warm corn dish, bread & butter, halibut from Gaspésie, & sticky carrot pudding. Each dish was delicious, with the halibut being a particular standout. It's so nice that restaurants like this exist - where you can enjoy food that has been prepared with care & served with that same care & attention. We'll be back the next time we're in Montreal!
Wow! We were visiting from the States & I wish I could bring this place back with me. Started with the steak tartare (half order), I so wish I ordered the whole thing. It was fabulous, that's all I can say. My wife ordered Halibut & I ordered half chicken & we split. I was so hopping she would get full so I can more but I think she actually took 60%. Chicken & halibut not easy to get perfect but both shined bright.
Service may have been the best part, highly recommend sitting at the bar & watching chef prepare everything. Dinner & a show, I love Montreal.
Thanks for a great night !
Great experience-felt like a friend was hosting us for a cozy dinner filled with delicious food.
The service was genuinely warm & attentive, which, to me, is what makes a place stand out & makes you want to come back just to relive it all over again.
We shared all the dishes family-style, & each one had something unique to offer. My favorites were definitely the beef tartare & the fish-both were packed with flavor & beautifully done.
Salle Climatisee coaxes incredible flavor from the simplest ingredients. I've had great tartare, pork chops, & char, & their vegetables really shine. The wine list is excellent - focused on natural wines while being very approachable, & they put a lot of thought into helping you make a selection. Most of all, the entire crew is awesome, & the service & vibe are sublime. There isn't another restaurant I'd rather dine in.
Great service & wine recommendations. Beef tartare was amazing. Cabbage was the best cabbage I've ever had, really the ideal way to cook it. Chicken & clams was good, mostly because of the broth. I didn't feel like the gigantes beans added anything. The carrot cake sticky toffee pudding hybrid had this weird salty buttery taste to it that wasn't the best. The gentiane spritz recommended as a starter was refreshing.
A friend of mine highly recommend this place & it truly didn't disappoint. The food was truly amazing & the service was superb. I do love a place with a small menu because what they do they do well! Would absolutely go back :) get the green beans & the beef tartare!
Stumbled upon this spot while looking for a place to have a drink & some snacks on a Friday evening. We were sat on their mini terrace on the sidewalk. We did not understand anything that was on the menu so we asked the waiter to describe each dish. I believe the cuisine was mainly French with a Middle E astern twist. We ordered the fresh bread which was fantastic & about 3/4 vegetable dishes along with the tartare. All very well flavoured but portions were very tiny. One bite each type of tiny. We ended the night with dessert which surprisingly had the biggest portion. Overall was a great night with friends but was also a very expensive night. We were three & each had a bill of 100$ for mainly vegetables & wine. In my opinion too expensive. The waitress/waiter was great & the vibe was chill.
An amazing culinary experience at the restaurant Salle Climatisée (Instagram: @salle.climatisee) located in the Little Italy neighborhood of Montreal, Quebec.
Got to experience their delicious French fare on their patio, located in the front of the restaurant, on St Laurent Boulevard. I managed to try most of the menu which was offered on that day, & I wish that I were able to squeeze in a few more, as each dish ended up being more intricate than the one before & offered increasingly unique flavors.
It's really hard to describe the flavours of each of the dishes, so I would just recommend that you give them a try yourself to see exactly what I mean.
I will just mention that the chicken & chanterelles dish was pure perfection, as was the Bavarian cream dessert which was perfectly balanced & unexpectedly light & smooth.
On the menu:
• R.D.V. chicken (Instagram: @f_rosedesvents), chanterelles, Physalis.
• Corn, chamomile, tarragon.
• Beef tartare, peppers, anchovies.
• Parselle tomatoes (Instagram: @parcelles.austin), smoked eggplant.
• Leeks, sunflower vinaigrette.
Dessert
• Bavarian cream, blueberries, hazelnut, maple.
The overall service was great, interactive & really fun. A big thank you to the whole team for making it a memorable experience!
