Review Summary

Romies receives polarized feedback, with many patrons praising its vibrant, chic atmosphere, exceptional service from specific staff members, and standout dishes like the fried zucchini, pasta alla zozzona, and chocolate cake. While frequent visitors describe it as a top-tier destination for cocktails and social gatherings, others feel the menu is somewhat basic for the price point, pointing to inconsistencies in food quality, portion sizes, and service efficiency. Experience seems to vary depending on the occasion, as private events occasionally result in booking cancellations or limited menu variety, and some diners find the high cost difficult to justify given the overall value. Despite these mixed reports regarding pricing and occasional service lapses, many diners consider the restaurant a must-visit spot in Montreal and appreciate the beautiful design and inviting terrace.

Wow, what a horrible experience this was.

I went to Romies over a month ago for a celebration dinner with a group of 12+. Right from the start, we noticed our large party had been split across separate booths instead of being seated together.

Unfortunately, things only got worse from there:

1- The waitress struggled to keep track of the seating arrangement & who had ordered what.
2- Several orders were incorrect.
3- We waited nearly two hours for our meals.
4- Despite reminding the staff multiple times, they forgot to bring out the cake we had purchased for the celebration until much later.

At the time, we understood that large groups can be challenging, so we didn't hold a grudge.

What was truly shocking happened only recently. One member of our group made another reservation for tonight. The manager recognized her name, brought up our visit from over a month ago, & implied that we had harassed the staff that evening. He then questioned whether she still wanted to keep the reservation given'what happened.'

We had long since moved on, but apparently the restaurant hadn't. Instead of acknowledging the poor service we received, the manager chose to confront a returning customer over a month-old visit. That's an incredibly unprofessional way to treat guests, especially after the experience we had.

Safe to say we won't be returning.

What a beautiful restaurant. The ambiance is so nice, the food is delicious, & the service is great. Such a great place for a date night or a girls night, in the heart of the city. The chocolate cake is literally the best cake I've ever eaten in my life.

Ive been to Romies a few times & it's basically a sure bet. The food is consistently good, the service is always friendly & the atmosphere is top (indoor & outdoor) - great playlist!

Just like anywhere else, I like some dishes more than others, but I never had an actual bad experience. I go there for the fried zucchini, their french fries & the blackout chocolate cake (I'm really not a dessert person & never order it when I eat out, but this cake is perfectly moist, rich but not overly sweet, decadent but also light in some weird way). Anything else I order is just bonus!

I went back last night for a date night for our anniversary & the staff went above & beyond to make the experience memorable. The service was impeccable, everyone was so kind, friendly & so accommodating with our baby & finding a table with enough space for our stroller (yes, we brought the baby on date night).
10/10, no notes.

Very impressed by the service , the food & the outdoor garden . The entire staff was so friendly & very professional . The food was delicious & very flavourful . All our dishes were delectable, my favourite was the beef carpaccio , the mix of flavours of the dressing was perfect & the Brutus salad was crunchy & succulent . The outdoor space is quite lovely in the evening with all the little lights . Great place for both an intimate dinner or with a group of friends .

I've been three times to Romies & every single time i've been disappointed. I don't know it is supposed to be that way, but the food is always soooo salty, to the point where it's genuinely not enjoyable. The server was really nice but there also were several mistakes made with our dishes but also with the bills (the way it was split between our group). For the price, I genuinely can't say going to this place is worth it.

You pay for the atmosphere essentially. Service was amazing too. Food is'okay' which is not representative of the price you pay - it's overprice. Overall a good pick for dates or nights with friends but expect une addition salée.

Overall we had an amazing experience. Mandek was our waitress & she was amazing! The food was fantastic & came out piping hot. The cocktails were also amazing! We started with the focaccia & also had the brutus & catalina salad. Then between the 8 of us, some had the tortellini, the pasta alla zozzona, the almond crusted halibut, & the burger. Everyone loved their meal! Everything was also salted perfectly. Also, everything was reasonably priced & the atmosphere was great. Went on a girls trip to Montreal to celebrate a milestone birthday for the weekend but we would definitely come back to Romies the next time we are in Montreal.

I went here for a company function, so my review will be focused on that experience rather than a normal sit-down restaurant experience.

The place is quite nice. The atmosphere is very warm & inviting, & the outdoor seating was comfortable. The staff were very kind & attentive, taking drink orders & making sure people were content.

The food however left much to be desired. I think there were about 5 small appetizers that were mostly meat/seafood. Our'dinner' option was either a two bite chicken skewer or a jalapeno popper wrapped in bacon. The dessert was a cream puff. I was holding on to hope that dessert would be a satisfying end to an otherwise lackluster meal, but it wasn't. I ended up leaving early with a coworker to get ice cream nearby instead.

A big issue I have... our company isn't small by any means, & diet preferences vary. We've got vegetarians, vegans, & pescetarians... out of everything offered throughout the night, there were maybe four things that weren't meat/dairy/seafood related. The bread & grapes on the charcuterie board available at the start of the night, a watermelon appetizer, & the cream puff for dessert. Anyone who didn't like or didn't eat meat/seafood for any reason probably had an even worse time with the food than the rest of us did.

I'm not sure if they do their own food for private functions or if they hire a catering business like some other places do, but man it was disappointing. For what I believe is an Italian restaurant, there are tons of options for non-meat/seafood related bites. Brushcetta? Zucchini fritters? Arancini? I used to be vegetarian but I'm not anymore so I was fine, but I know how frustrating it can be to have almost no options. The menu for private functions needs to be diversified a little. There are so, SO many possible options that highlight great flavours & ingredients that don't have to be meat/seafood focused. Variety is good.

But in general, what food was offered simply was not enough. It says a lot that by the end of the night, & even the day after the party, jokes were being made about how hungry we all were. People joked that the food they ate when they got home was the most satisfying bite of the night.

Overall, comfortable place & nice staff, but the food provided for private functions left much to be desired (& many bellies empty).
