Finally tried this spot & had a bit of a mixed experience. The atmosphere has a dark, after-work drinks kind of vibe that felt a little stuffy for me, but the outdoor courtyard/terrace is really cute. Service was excellent - our server was incredibly sweet, friendly & attentive.
Food-wise, most of it was just okay. The focaccia was fresh & delicious with olive oil & balsamic. The fried courgette had great flavours, especially with the tzatziki & dill, but I found it very oily. The Brutus Caesar salad was decent & I loved the kettle chips, although the lettuce could have been fresher.
For mains, we tried the burger & the amatriciana/carbonara-style pasta. The burger was decent but a little greasy, while the pasta was disappointing for $36. The sauce was fairly bland, although the cheese was great.
The absolute standout was the Blackout Chocolate Cake. Easily one of the best chocolate cakes I've had - incredibly moist, rich without being too sweet, with cream & crunchy chocolate cookie pieces. Honestly phenomenal.
I probably wouldn't come back specifically for dinner, but I would 100% return for drinks on the courtyard & that chocolate cake. I'd actually skip dinner & just order dessert next time!
My girlfriend & I came to Romies to celebrate our anniversary & I have to say, we were very disappointed. It took a really long time for our drinks to come out & we also had to wait 40 minutes for our mains. The experience was not entirely terrible but for the price we were paying, we expected more.
Romies Catalina Salad: Overall, the salad had great flavour & crunch but there were a couple things that ruined it. First, the red lettuce was very bitter, which really messed with the flavour. Second, the texture of the cucumber & grapes in the salad also threw off the crunchy consistency to the rest of the salad. I would not get this salad again.
Chicken Pâté: Compared to the salad, the pâté tasted much better on flavour. My best description of the flavours of the dish would be a deconstructed chicken pot pie.
Pasta Alla Zozzona: Really just an average pasta dish, not bad but not spectacular. However, the pasta came out cold & because of that, the cheese on the top of the pasta was solid & was not great at all.
Romies Beef Burger: Not much to say here on the burger, just tasted like an elevated Big Mac. The fries on the other hand were probably the best thing of this meal. Thick cut & perfectly crispy on the outside.
Romies embodies what going out to dinner truly was meant to be, an experience.
From the moment we were greeted at the door by the lovely Cynthia, to our perfectly crafted snail martins (must try) by Nick while we waited for our table, we could already feel we picked the right place to celebrate our friends 40th!
The atmosphere is modern & chic with a sophisticated, fashionable crowd wrapped in the perfect playlist in the background. It's a vibe!
At the table, Jeana took amazing care of us recommending wines & helping us curate the perfect dinner for five picky foodies. We decided to share multiple menu items since everything sounded delicious & we wanted to sample everything & that was the way to go! The shrimp appetizer was phenomenal, the burger….. chef's kiss, the pastas were perfection, we even fought over the Brutus salad, everything was delicious! We finished off the meal with the best cherry pie topped with ice cream but that chocolate cake will change your life especially if you pair it with their espresso martini!
Romies truly has set a standard with what they're doing here. 10's across the board, top tier, no notes!
Waiter can care less about service. Main course was likely in oven for a long time & they just forgot to bring it out. The moment we asked after what feels like 30 minutes of wait, both the halibut & the pasta came out in 2 minutes. The meat was dry & the pasta was burnt & hard. Waiter didn't bother to ask how our food was or apologize for the wait. Silence. They couldn't care any less. $150 could have much better time than this place.
Overall we had an amazing experience. Mandek was our waitress & she was amazing! The food was fantastic & came out piping hot. The cocktails were also amazing! We started with the focaccia & also had the brutus & catalina salad. Then between the 8 of us, some had the tortellini, the pasta alla zozzona, the almond crusted halibut, & the burger. Everyone loved their meal! Everything was also salted perfectly. Also, everything was reasonably priced & the atmosphere was great. Went on a girls trip to Montreal to celebrate a milestone birthday for the weekend but we would definitely come back to Romies the next time we are in Montreal.
INSANELY good food. Service was 10/10. The pasta was worth every penny I suggest you order several different plates & share like tapas style. The zucchini was to die for 🤤🤤
We had our wedding at Romies with 72 guests & it was super intimate.
We had our ceremony & cocktail hour in the courtyard, & our reception inside the restaurant. First off, the staff is 10/10 - service was incredible & the food was outstanding. We had an open bar & family style dining. We had antipasti & focaccia to start, catalina salad & fried zucchini followed by pasta alla zozzana, rib eye, branzino as the mains, & fries + side veg. Finished off with the Black out cake which was out of this world + our wedding cake. The food was never ending. Everyone was so well fed.
Nick & his team were so organized. We mostly dealt with Franck & Camille & they were very accommodating + responsive.

This place has a great vibe. The moment you walk in you are struck by the decor & ambiance.
The food is quite good, but is is very expensive for what it is. $41 (before tip & tax) for a medium sized burger & fries is insane. $36 for a basic pasta dish with just sauce & cheese?
At those prices you can eat at the best restaurants in the city. While Romies is good, it is not even close to the best in the city.
The service was good, but again, at these prices it should be the highest level of service which it is not.
I will be back, but likely for just drinks since the food is really not worth it.
