Romies is described as a stylish, vibey spot in Old Montreal with a beautiful terrace that many reviews say is perfect for dates or celebrations. The service is often praised for being friendly and attentive, though a few experiences mention slow or inconsistent service, especially on busy nights. The food is generally regarded as delicious and well presented, with frequent highlights including fried zucchini, pasta alla zozzona, crudo, focaccia, rib eye, and a standout dessert scene featuring chocolate cake or blackout cake. Some readers feel the prices are high for the portions and value, and a number of dishes arrive not as hot as expected or can be a little heavy on richness. The ambiance, decor, and open kitchen vibe create a memorable experience that many say elevates the meal, though the noise level and crowds can be a downside for some. Across reviews, Romies is seen as a place with strong positives in food and atmosphere, and a willingness to return for the terrace, cocktails, and signature dishes, while the occasional critique centers on price, consistency and service during peak times.
If I could give their service 1000/10 I would. Franc at the host table was exceptional at making our trip to Montreal & this restaurant memorable. We came from Toronto to celebrate my sisters birthday & this restaurant was truly the highlight. From the food to the atmosphere, Romies Montreal is our new favourite restaurant! TIP: you MUST get the blackout cake, soooo good!
We were a group of 15 people, the food was really good, we had the group menu with tons of options. The atmosphere was good, its warm & a little bit dark.
The desserts that we had (cheese cake & chocolate cake) were not that good, they tasted like box cakes.
Also, some of our group members were having issues getting additional drinks, the waiter was not paying attention if we needed more drinks or bread.
Overall good but just to go one time.

Personally I found this place pretty mid. It's a place to go for the vibes & appetizers than the actual food. The fried zucchini was delicious! I would go back anytime for that. Everything else was super meh. The pasta was actually not that great. There was so much cheese that it was a bit disgusting to eat & the flavours were nothing special. Very basic. I know the pasta has gone very viral & I had very high hopes but overall it was super disappointing. Any influencer/content creator that pushed this pasta forward has definitely lost all credibility. Overall I would only go back to enjoy the fried zucchini & grab food+dessert elsewhere. You can buy a whole cake for the price you pay for a slice of cake…which again is nothing special or worth paying for.
I have read some mixed reviews prior coming to Romies but I still wanted to give it a try during my recent visit to Montréal. Overall I like their food but there were some improvements I would like to suggest.
They didn't really have a big menu, & if they have printed on the menu I would have expected they were available to order. When I tried to order the steamed clams main dish, our server told us it was not available. & that's the only thing they didn't have on that day. I understand but also disappointed, why couldn't they told us right from the beginning? Rather than spending 15 minutes deciding what to order & then only to figure out it's not available.
The food tasted good in general but some of the items were not hot enough in my opinion. The fried zucchini was just warm but not hot. & the NY striploin dish, the side dish hashbrown also just warm but I wish it could be more hot & crispy.
The Brooklyn blackout cake looked good but I actually enjoyed their butter pecan sundae more.
The food was good & the space is very nice. I had the Courgette Frites which were excellent, definitely recommend. Also tried the pasta alla zozzano which was good but expensive for a plate of pasta ($34) with mostly sauce, cheese & bits of bacon. The chocolate cake is decadent & well worth it.
Service was a bit slow especially for our cocktails.
Attentive & friendly staff. Food was very good & the plating was very nice.
Shared five appetizers between four people & then had the steak & pasta as a main meal. Walked out stuffed.
The cocktails were nice. bees nees is a must try!
Chocolate cake & a coffe were a perfect ending to our meal.
Would definitely go back!
Wanted to like this place, but definitely overrated. They don't know how to cook a steak at all. The burger was also so salty & greasy that it fell apart. The pasta that everyone gets is also a gimmick. Fried zucchini is ok, but the serving you get is smaller than what you see online. Chocolate cake was the best thing on the menu. Good service, tho would't recommend.
We had our wedding at Romies with 72 guests & it was the most special night. It was super intimate.
We had our ceremony & cocktail hour in the courtyard, & our reception inside the restaurant. First off, the staff is 10/10 - service was incredible, the food was outstanding & all our friends & family said this was some of the best food they ever had. We had an open bar & family style dining. We had antipasti & focaccia to start, catalina salad & fried zucchini followed by pasta alla zozzana, rib eye, branzino as the mains, & fries + side veg. Finished off with the Black out cake which was out of this world, & our wedding cake. The food was never ending. Everyone was so well fed. We also had a midnight table!
Nick & his team were so organized. We mostly dealt with Franck & Camille & they were so accommodating + responsive. We got married last week & I wish we could have our wedding again this weekend lol.
Thank you, Romies ♥?

Worth the hype. First of all-my group was late haha & without a thought they held our table for us for 15 mins on a busy Wednesday night. So thank you for that kindness. We got the beef tartare & focaccia as starters. The tartare was good but different (came atop a bland potato salad) & the focaccia was delicious. Most of my group got their famous pasta & raved about it. The grilled branzino was an underrated yet excellent dish. & the burger. My gosh- out of this world. & comes with their house ceaser salad which was so yummy & had potato chips instead of croutons. Although the dressing wasn't anchovy-ee enough for my taste. We also got all 3 desserts & all were 10/10 but the chocolate cake & blueberry sundaes are a must!! All in all a great meal in a cool trendy atmosphere
We had high expectations for Romies considering how much we love its team's other restaurant, Arthurs, but unfortunately they were not met on this evening.
On the positive side, the food was phenomenal (especially the burger, pasta, & blackout cake), & they have cultivated a really cool vibe through the design, open kitchen, bar, etc.
That said, what really let us down was the service. From the hop, our server was rude, dismissive, & barely checked in. Then, he brought the wrong bottle of wine to our table, which we politely corrected, & then he proceeded to place that $100 bottle on my friend's bill (perhaps hoping she would not notice?). Also, we were there for my birthday & to kick off the night's celebrations (which was noted on the reservation), & there was absolutely no acknowledgement - not even placing a candle in the slice of cake I ordered. Don't get me wrong, we were not expecting to be catered to by any means, but being a bit more welcoming overall would have gone a long way.

Pasta & chocolate cake are an absolute Must. Beef tartare & focaccia are delicious as well. We also ordered the BBQ ribs & burger which were pretty good & Cesar. Overall great experience!
I wasn't sure if I was going to leave a review, opted to. I reserved roomies as my birthday dinner, we were a group of 6 girls. Our waiter was really quite rude. Seemed extremely bothered when we asked questions about the menu. One of my friends had called beforehand to ask if we could bring a cake, the response was'I don't know'. I ended up bringing a very small cake which I wasn't allowed to have. Fine, I suppose. When we asked if they did anything for birthdays, we were met with a shrug, literally no verbal response. The waiter did not wish me a happy birthday & just seemed bothered by our entire table. During our dinner another waiter dropped an entire pitcher of water on the table & it spilled all over one of my friends. Don't get me wrong, the food was really delicious, however the customer service left us feeling disappointed.
Service was great, we went at 6pm on a Friday night & they weren't as busy yet so staff were very attentive & polite. We had the grilled peppers & cold fish to start, would recommend both, especially the grilled peppers as the flavours were more interesting. I had the pasta alla zonzzona which was delicious, my boyfriend had the bbq ribs. Good portion size for both. Fries were expensive($14) & I felt they were overcooked & we had a lot of short bits under the first layer of decent fries. We had the blackout choco cake to share which was more salty than sweet. I love desserts typically but personally I would skip this next time.
The food was outstanding & the service impeccable. We had the fried zucchini, rib-eye & brooklyn chocolate cake for dessert. Thank you Kelsey for the amazing service!
We went for a moms' dinner out to celebrate my friend's birthday. Great space & playlist. Everything we ate & drank was perfect. The best burger I have had because I love a good char, & the bun to be just right- Romies nailed it. Crispy bacon, the right melty cheese, perfect thin pickle slices. The clams were fab too - so fresh & delicious & the addition of tiny pasta was genius / plus the occasional crunch & nuttiness of hazelnuts made it next level. The side veg was a star dish in itself & we understood why it sells put at first bite. The corn & tomato salad highlighted the best of local summer corn & tomatoes & the creamy corn dressing & feta, onions & fried shallots. I could go back every day to try each of the tempting salads on the menu. Then there is the Brooklyn blackout cake. The whole dessert menu sounds dreamy but the BROOKLYN BLACKOUT CAKE with its Chocolate mousse frosting, cookie whipped cream & just a little crunch of flakey salt on top should not be missed / I don't care how full you are or if you don't usually like chocolate cake. Get it. Try it. Even if, like us, you can only eat one bite & have to take it home.
Romie's has quickly become a favorite of ours. The service is exceptional-attentive, friendly, & professional. The food is always incredible; The Brutus salad, cold fish, filet mignon & fish of the day are our favorites. The chocolate cake is hands down best dessert ever. We've been three times since they opened, & every visit has been consistently great. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a memorable dining experience!
Another hit from Raegan & Alex & team! Every item on the menu is excellent. We started with cocktails (Hugo Spritz & Espresso martini) - that were perfectly crafted. Catalina salad & fish crudo as starters- Crudo is a must-have! We were treated to the house focaccia (classic!), the roasted pepper with straciatella (a sleeper hit!) & a seasonal tomato salad with corn & feta (excellent). For mains- filet mignon (perfectly cooked), the pasta (must-have) & a side of fries. Blackout cake to end- cannot miss the dessert menu! Everything at Romies is excellent. Well thought out & well executed. Ambience is great. Service is excellent! 10/10 recommend
