The space itself is lovely, warm, & inviting, yet the staff felt noticeably unwelcoming. The front?of?house guy in particular came across as brusque, which set an odd tone for the visit. The food was okay, nothing terrible, nothing memorable. Desserts, on the other hand, were genuinely great & easily the highlight of the meal. If you go, save room for something sweet. As for the shrimp cocktail, I wouldn't recommend it; it missed the mark & didn't match the quality of the rest of the menu. Overall, Romies is a beautiful spot with potential, but the hospitality & some dishes need attention before I'd consider returning.
Ive been to Romies a few times & it's basically a sure bet. The food is consistently good, the service is always friendly & the atmosphere is top (indoor & outdoor) - great playlist!
Just like anywhere else, I like some dishes more than others, but I never had an actual bad experience. I go there for the fried zucchini, their french fries & the blackout chocolate cake (I'm really not a dessert person & never order it when I eat out, but this cake is perfectly moist, rich but not overly sweet, decadent but also light in some weird way). Anything else I order is just bonus!
I went back last night for a date night for our anniversary & the staff went above & beyond to make the experience memorable. The service was impeccable, everyone was so kind, friendly & so accommodating with our baby & finding a table with enough space for our stroller (yes, we brought the baby on date night).
10/10, no notes.
I went here for a company function, so my review will be focused on that experience rather than a normal sit-down restaurant experience.
The place is quite nice. The atmosphere is very warm & inviting, & the outdoor seating was comfortable. The staff were very kind & attentive, taking drink orders & making sure people were content.
The food however left much to be desired. I think there were about 5 small appetizers that were mostly meat/seafood. Our'dinner' option was either a two bite chicken skewer or a jalapeno popper wrapped in bacon. The dessert was a cream puff. I was holding on to hope that dessert would be a satisfying end to an otherwise lackluster meal, but it wasn't. I ended up leaving early with a coworker to get ice cream nearby instead.
A big issue I have... our company isn't small by any means, & diet preferences vary. We've got vegetarians, vegans, & pescetarians... out of everything offered throughout the night, there were maybe four things that weren't meat/dairy/seafood related. The bread & grapes on the charcuterie board available at the start of the night, a watermelon appetizer, & the cream puff for dessert. Anyone who didn't like or didn't eat meat/seafood for any reason probably had an even worse time with the food than the rest of us did.
I'm not sure if they do their own food for private functions or if they hire a catering business like some other places do, but man it was disappointing. For what I believe is an Italian restaurant, there are tons of options for non-meat/seafood related bites. Brushcetta? Zucchini fritters? Arancini? I used to be vegetarian but I'm not anymore so I was fine, but I know how frustrating it can be to have almost no options. The menu for private functions needs to be diversified a little. There are so, SO many possible options that highlight great flavours & ingredients that don't have to be meat/seafood focused. Variety is good.
But in general, what food was offered simply was not enough. It says a lot that by the end of the night, & even the day after the party, jokes were being made about how hungry we all were. People joked that the food they ate when they got home was the most satisfying bite of the night.
Overall, comfortable place & nice staff, but the food provided for private functions left much to be desired (& many bellies empty).
I never took the time to leave a negative review, but this was by far the worst service I've ever experienced. Our server had a severe attitude throughout the night. When our cold dessert took over 40 minutes & we politely asked about it, he shrugged us off & later dropped it on the table without saying a word. The table next to us even found a large shard of glass in their food, & there was a mistake on their bill at the end of the night.
To make matters worse, there was a mistake on my bill as well that I noticed after paying. When I brought it up, the server simply dropped the cash for the error on the table & walked away. I returned the cash & asked for a proper refund & repayment to simplify things, I noticed on my statement the next morning that the credit was incorrect & I was actually credited less than I should have been. After following up by email, one of the owners confirmed the mistake, they offered a $50 gift card instead of correcting the charge. Given the experience, I politely asked for a simple credit instead, my emails suddenly stopped going through (my email was blocked). I resent the message from another email address which did go through, but that one was completely ignored.
Despite remaining respectful the entire time, the restaurant clearly had no interest in resolving the issue…. Extremely disappointing.
UPDATE (after owner response): I'd like to clarify a few points raised by the owner.
Firstly, I never claimed that I was charged twice; I simply stated that I was incorrectly charged, which you acknowledged in your email.
Secondly, my follow-up email from a different address went through immediately after the original one didn't, which makes the explanation about your email issues very difficult to believe.
Thirdly, while a $50 gift card was offered, it was never actually provided (nor did I request it), & the billing error was never corrected on your end. I ultimately had to contact my credit card company to have the charge reversed… even after you regained access to your emails since being'hacked' last week.
Lastly, it's disappointing that you chose to ignore the other points raised in my review, as well as in several other reviews criticizing the service you claim to ensure is'great.' If issues like these are not acknowledged, it's difficult to see how the service can improve.
We were a group of 15 people, the food was really good, we had the group menu with tons of options. The atmosphere was good, its warm & a little bit dark.
The desserts that we had (cheese cake & chocolate cake) were not that good, they tasted like box cakes.
Also, some of our group members were having issues getting additional drinks, the waiter was not paying attention if we needed more drinks or bread.
Overall good but just to go one time.
Personally I found this place pretty mid. It's a place to go for the vibes & appetizers than the actual food. The fried zucchini was delicious! I would go back anytime for that. Everything else was super meh. The pasta was actually not that great. There was so much cheese that it was a bit disgusting to eat & the flavours were nothing special. Very basic. I know the pasta has gone very viral & I had very high hopes but overall it was super disappointing. Any influencer/content creator that pushed this pasta forward has definitely lost all credibility. Overall I would only go back to enjoy the fried zucchini & grab food+dessert elsewhere. You can buy a whole cake for the price you pay for a slice of cake…which again is nothing special or worth paying for.
Worth the hype. First of all-my group was late haha & without a thought they held our table for us for 15 mins on a busy Wednesday night. So thank you for that kindness. We got the beef tartare & focaccia as starters. The tartare was good but different (came atop a bland potato salad) & the focaccia was delicious. Most of my group got their famous pasta & raved about it. The grilled branzino was an underrated yet excellent dish. & the burger. My gosh- out of this world. & comes with their house ceaser salad which was so yummy & had potato chips instead of croutons. Although the dressing wasn't anchovy-ee enough for my taste. We also got all 3 desserts & all were 10/10 but the chocolate cake & blueberry sundaes are a must!! All in all a great meal in a cool trendy atmosphere
I saw another review on here that perfectly summed up my experience, but in short; the food quality & taste doesn't justify the price, unfortunately.
The flavours of each main were overpowering yet underwhelming.
Service was okay overall but we had to wait a long time to order, to get our food & then to pay.
We were about to leave quite disappointed BUT the dessert made up for it in the end! Whoever is the dessert chef is needs a raise because WOW! I would come back solely for the dulce de leche & passionfruit sundae 🤤.
