Simple & quaint Japanese restaurant. Been here a couple of times. Dishes are fresh & tasty (you are paying for quality), sashimi is flavourful, service is friendly & courteous. Atmosphere is intimate & easygoing. Overall, a pleasant experience.
The restaurant is small & cozy. One of the few places where you can actually hear your dining companions. Reservations are a must. The service was excellent. She was helpful, knew the menu & attentive. This is not a sushi restaurant but serves fresh Japanese food. Everything on the menu looked appealing. We ordered more food than necessary but it was so good, we ate everything. The one thing that I would skip is the potato croquettes. They were good but felt out of place with the rest of the menu. Starters: the beef tataki sauce was good; the beef was a bit chewy. The flavor of the yakatori was really good. The five pc omakase starter is very worth the $20. So good! The Karaage chicken was perfectly fried. Mains: The Take Kago is really good if you wanted a bit of everything. It was well explained & nicely presented. The Unagi Don was delicious, the eel very well prepared. The seafood platter was fresh. The oysters were delightful. Note: some dishes from the Omakase starter were also in the Take Kago. Maybe ask what is in each before ordering if you want a bit more variety. We all had beverages (non achohlic) & they were refreshing. Perfect for a hot summer. Desserts. Oh my. We ordered an assortment & it was all wonderful. My favorite was the yuzu sorbet.
The chef is Japanese. He is truly living his IKIGAI. The food reflects the care & attention he has put into this place. A must if you want to experience a quaint authentic pretentious free Japanese restaurant.
Price was 150$ per person for the omakase & you can drink as much as you want to try different sake with the multitude of course. The restaurant is pretty small so be sure to book if you want to eat there. Good japanese food that impressed me. It also filled me up pretty well. Since the restaurant is pretty small, the food comes out at the same time for everybody.
Authentic Japanese food made with local ingredients (as much as possible). Simple no frill. Great value. Highly recommended.
One of the best Japanese restaurants in Montreal! Delicious menu, great service & very cosy atmosphere. We loved everything but we had karaage fried chicken seconds :) Will be visiting again!
For me as a Japanese, this is definitely ranked in top 3 of my favourite Japanese restaurants. You should try Uni, Saumon, Bluefin tuna don.
Ordered the chirashi bowl for two. Everything was fresh & relish. Totoro tummy, uni, eels, salmon & the rice was all so flavourful! ---- Update 10/2023 I did not go back to that restaurant since the pandemic. Decided to try their Omakase that they serve during the weekend. The ingredients were amazingly fresh & I would definitely recommend to go for their all you can drink menu as well. Pricing was a bit expensive but worth the experience. If you're craving for some fresh Japanese seafood dishes, it is definitely worth going.
I admit that it's a bit pricy, but quality was there for raw fish. As a Japanese person, prefer not to have sriracha sauce (?) on rice but all fish tastes great so no complaints. It seemed like it's run only by owner himself for lunch time so it might take time to be served if it's busy.
Amazingly fresh Japanese food. Sashimi was the best I've had in Montreal (I'm from Vancouver & have been to Hawaii a few times, so I have high standards lol). The uni was super fresh as well. Sake flight was great & had a fun variety.
