Mastard offers one of the most beautiful, creative & memorable dining experiences in the culinary world. Like its chef, Simon Mathys, & the staff, the cuisine is non-pretentious, refined & welcoming. Each dish is carefully crafted, explained with love & respect & tastes wonderful, with many surprises. Every ingredient balances each other & the wine pairing is exactly spot on. The restaurant is located in a humble neighbourhood, redefining the concept of haute gastronomie & Michelin star criteria. The mention of the names of the collaborateurs working in the kitchen & on the floor listed on the menu is unique & touching. Having been to many Michelin starred restaurants including the top in the world, no restaurant cares about its people like Mastard. It was an unbelievable experience & I would fly in regularly to eat at Mastard if it was easier to book a seat. Merci & felicitations.
2nd visit: We tried spectacular dishes from the new menu. The ingredients are surprisingly paired but work well together. The fish, crab of Rimouski & dessert were simply amazing. We can't wait to try the summer menu.
Excellent food, very attentive staff, amazing wine pairing. Came here twice in a month because I enjoyed so much. My go to spot to bring friends & family when they come to Montreal to visit me.
We ordered 2 5 course tasting menus with an extra dish & non alcoholic pairing. It was $381.64 after tip. For the price the food portions were small, & very fat heavy without acidity. The bread didn't taste fresh. The restaurant plays really loud music for no reason. We wrote hazelnut allergy in the reservation but the kitchen still served us hazelnut. Luckily the waiter caught it last minute.
Bartender is perfect, I strongly recommend adding more cocktails, which are more unique than wine pairing.
Had an excellent meal last Friday night. All the dishes were delicious & the wine pairings were perfectly chosen. Service from Gabriel was also excellent & the whole staff was warm & helpful in explaining things & making it a fun evening. This is exactly the type of dining experience that I enjoy these days. Creative & well thought out dishes that are not reproducible at home for the average home cook. The team really did a fantastic job overall & I am looking forward to coming back this summer to experience the summer menu. Shout out to Julien(apologies if I got the name wrong) who came over to explain the mocktails for the non-alcoholic pairing menu that I might try out next time.
I won't get too into the exact dishes since the menu will be different a few months from now. Just know that your menu will be original & also, local. We have excellent ingredients to offer & it's nice that the staff takes advantage of them.
Will definitely be back
Best restaurant ive ever been to.
The music & ambiance was so great!
We ordered the tasting menu with wine pairings
The attention to detail was incredible
Chefs came to our table to explain each dish we got & servers explained wine & how it pairs with the food.
The appetizer (spicecake) was the best bite of anything i have ever had the pleasure of putting in my mouth. I highly recommend the truffle upsell. The different flavors were like a culinary adventure.
Portion sizes were a bit small but because it's 5 different courses i was very satisfied & full by the end of the service.
I ordered the tasting menu with wine pairings, truffle with appetizer, & an old mastard cocktail.
Final price including a 20% tip was 290$
I will certainly return for a special occasion.
Thank you Mastard for a very special meal & experience!
Mastard, under the direction of chef Simon Mathys, is one of the only Michelin-starred restaurants in Montreal & easily offers one of the most impressive tasting menus in the city. This was my second visit, & the $90 carte blanche menu once again proved to be exceptional value for the level of technique, sourcing, & thought behind each course, with an optional wine pairing that is genuinely well-curated & purposeful rather than an afterthought.
The cooking is modern, precise, & deeply ingredient-driven. Expect impeccably cooked seafood, razor-clean sauces, & dishes that balance richness, acidity, & texture with confidence. Vegetables are treated with as much care as proteins, often serving as the foundation of a dish rather than a garnish. There's a strong sense of seasonality & Quebec terroir throughout, filtered through a contemporary, restrained lens-nothing feels busy or overworked.
What stands out most is restraint. Flavors are bold but controlled, plating is intentional without being precious, & every dish feels complete. This is a kitchen where technique clearly serves flavor, not ego.
I've eaten at over 20 Michelin-starred restaurants around the world, & Mastard offers some of the best value I've encountered. Thoughtful, ambitious cooking at a price point that feels almost out of place for the quality delivered. Bravo.
This was my second time at this restaurant, & it didn't disappoint-actually, it was even better than the last! It's more than just a meal! it's a full-on experience. The food is incredible, wine pairings are spot-on, & the service is top-notch. It's perfect spot to bring guests when they visit Montreal!
LITERALLY SO GOOD! one of the best meals i've had in a long time. every dish was so so tasty & well thought out! service was also great. felt very local, the chefs presented each of the dishes & were very friendly. modern french food, with some asian influence & local ingredients. especially loved the fish & the meringue dessert. highly recommend the wine pairing as well, $40 for 4 glasses!!
