Had an excellent meal last Friday night. All the dishes were delicious & the wine pairings were perfectly chosen. Service from Gabriel was also excellent & the whole staff was warm & helpful in explaining things & making it a fun evening. This is exactly the type of dining experience that I enjoy these days. Creative & well thought out dishes that are not reproducible at home for the average home cook. The team really did a fantastic job overall & I am looking forward to coming back this summer to experience the summer menu. Shout out to Julien(apologies if I got the name wrong) who came over to explain the mocktails for the non-alcoholic pairing menu that I might try out next time.
I won't get too into the exact dishes since the menu will be different a few months from now. Just know that your menu will be original & also, local. We have excellent ingredients to offer & it's nice that the staff takes advantage of them.
Mastard, under the direction of chef Simon Mathys, is one of the only Michelin-starred restaurants in Montreal & easily offers one of the most impressive tasting menus in the city. This was my second visit, & the $90 carte blanche menu once again proved to be exceptional value for the level of technique, sourcing, & thought behind each course, with an optional wine pairing that is genuinely well-curated & purposeful rather than an afterthought.
The cooking is modern, precise, & deeply ingredient-driven. Expect impeccably cooked seafood, razor-clean sauces, & dishes that balance richness, acidity, & texture with confidence. Vegetables are treated with as much care as proteins, often serving as the foundation of a dish rather than a garnish. There's a strong sense of seasonality & Quebec terroir throughout, filtered through a contemporary, restrained lens-nothing feels busy or overworked.
What stands out most is restraint. Flavors are bold but controlled, plating is intentional without being precious, & every dish feels complete. This is a kitchen where technique clearly serves flavor, not ego.
I've eaten at over 20 Michelin-starred restaurants around the world, & Mastard offers some of the best value I've encountered. Thoughtful, ambitious cooking at a price point that feels almost out of place for the quality delivered. Bravo.

Came here for the first time for an anniversary celebration, & I am more than happy with the experience. The restaurant prepares dishes with rich flavors brought out from locally sourced high quality ingredients. Most ingredients except for the fish come from Quebec. The food was cooked perfectly the cocktails are exceptional. We would come back for the drinks alone.
While the culinary experience was excellent, it did feel like each dish had the same buttery & rich undertone. There was not as much variety when it came to flavor. The foie gras, which was extra, is an exception to that statement.
The finishers were excellent, & I was pleasantly surprised to bite into a dessert that was not too sweet.
Service was very good. Warm & hospitable staff who made sure everything was good.
Overall, very well deserving of its michelin star status. At its price point, I think it is an experience worth having!
Best meal I've had from a one star Michelin restaurant.
Absolutely zero misses. This meal checked every box I have for fine dining: unique local proteins (walleye, guineafowl), creative swings, & a sauce game that explored the whole flavor spectrum instead of just relying on acidity.
All the dishes were fantastic, but several dishes lingered with me. Braised cabbage & uni, Rabbit & oysters, Miso Walleye, & the Sunchoke ice cream. The Rabbit & oysters sounded like a riff on the famous'Oysters & Pearls,' but the execution was entirely its own beast. The smoked oyster sabayon elevated the lean rabbit while adding necessary moisture, & the oyster itself was almost raw yet smoked, which gave it a plush, velvet texture I rarely find in cooked oyster dishes.
Then the Miso Walleye. It was like cod but lightly braised in miso, giving it a funky finish that played beautifully against the dish's earthy elements. They followed it with a pasta filled with the same fish, & it was leaner, with a nice peppery kick to close out the seafood chapter.
Another surprise was the Guinea fowl. The bird is native to Africa, but this one came from a local farm that imported & raised it here. It looked like turkey on the plate, but the fat was as rich as duck & the meat as tender as a chicken thigh, all just anchored by onion & shallot purées. It wasn't the most distinctive dish flavor-wise, but given how conservative fine dining usually is with birds (chicken, duck, squab), I really liked the choice to work with something less familiar.
Undoubtedly my favorite meal in Montreal so far. It's the ultimate proof that you don't need luxury crutches like wagyu or caviar to make a dish special. The reservation was a pain to snag, but I'd absolutely make the trip again just to see what they do next season.
After a twenty-minute drive from
downtown, the experience proved to be exceptionally worthwhile. The entire culinary experience was truly exhilarating. I am very pleased that we decided to include the optional Tuna dish & paired each course with a different wine. As the dishes were not selected from a menu, each one presented a delightful surprise, awakening the taste buds with unknown deliciousness. The server was professional but friendly at the same time. They do also pay a full attention to their customers. Multiple small gestures here & there made us feel so welcomed. It was a truly delightful experience. Thank you, Mastard!
where the intersection of art & gastronomy creates an unforgettable dining experience. Recently adorned with a prestigious Michelin star, this gem redefines culinary excellence while remaining unassuming-truly a rare find.
From the moment we arrived, we were enveloped in an atmosphere that exudes warmth & approachability. There's no sense of pretentiousness here; diners can leave their fancy pants at home & instead indulge in the exquisite offerings without the weight of formality. The restaurant's intimate setting, combined with its limited seating, adds a layer of exclusivity that fuels the anticipation & excitement of securing a reservation, which is open to book only once a month.
Having made the extra effort to book a table, we were eager to see if the experience would match the hype surrounding Mastard's Michelin acclaim. It was evident right from our first bite that the reputation was well-deserved. Each dish was expertly crafted, utilizing local products & ingredients. Every dish was a stunning visual presentation, where creativity met technique, leaving us captivated.
The artistry of the meal was, in itself, a celebration of the senses. An ode to flavors, textures, & seasonal highlights, every detail was perfection. Every layer of the dishes was meticulously curated, displaying not only the chef's technical prowess but also a genuine love for the culinary arts. We marveled at how each element was deliberately placed, inviting us to explore the harmony & complexity of flavors.
Moreover, the service further elevated our dining experience. Attentive without being intrusive, the staff at Mastard offered insightful recommendations & a deep knowledge of the menu. They navigated the delicate balance of professionalism & warmth.
In a city renowned for its culinary landscape, we felt fortunate to have experienced the elevated yet approachable dining that Mastard provides. It's easy to question whether such acclaim is warranted, especially in the face of hype; however, we can confidently say that Mastard is not just worth your time & effort-it is an essential visit for anyone seeking to experience culinary artistry at its finest.
It leaves an indelible mark on your palate & memory alike. If you have the chance to steal a reservation, do so (or try at least to)-this is a dining experience that you should not miss
We have really enjoyed our meal at Mastard. It was innovative & succulent. I thoroughly enjoyed the two main dishes. The fish was superb & the meat also. Often in good restaurants, the emphasis is on the appetizers & the main dishes are not always great but this is not the case at Mastard. Everything was excellent.

LITERALLY SO GOOD! one of the best meals i've had in a long time. every dish was so so tasty & well thought out! service was also great. felt very local, the chefs presented each of the dishes & were very friendly. modern french food, with some asian influence & local ingredients. especially loved the fish & the meringue dessert. highly recommend the wine pairing as well, $40 for 4 glasses!!
Mastard deserves 5 stars for the delicious dishes served. We have the moon alcoholic drink pairing for 45$ to accompany the 5-course meal. You do not choose your meal here- the chefs crate the menu & each dish is a surprise. The chefs came out for each service to present what made up each dish. Perfect for foodies who appreciate to learn more about ingredients used - similar to what we experienced in the south of France in Michelin star establishments. Local ingredients were at the forefront & although places like this usually may give off a snob vibe, this place does not. The food was comforting & the chefs came out themselves at each service providing a down to earth & familiar approach. Service is where 1 star had to be deducted & it is so unfortunate. We came here for my birthday as a group of 4. The food restrictions were well detailed in the reservation we made 1 month in advance. One of us called the night before to make sure they had noted the restrictions as well as a special request for the dessert to come out with a candle (this was a surprise I found out the next day). Unfortunately neither request was taken into account. We had to mention the restrictions prior to the service, upon receiving the first dish, & when receiving the 3rd drink which could've made me very ill. Overall great food & highly recommended.
The restaurant is elegant & warm. The food is locally sourced & on par, if not wildly better, than the best restaurants in montreal.
The incredible professionals that comprise this wonderful establishments culinary team ,led by Chef Mathys, serve the very food they cook & explain with great detail where the ingredients came from & how they were prepared & assembled in the creative dishes that Le Mastard offers.
The service is impeccable & knowledgeable & the wine pairings & cocktails are without fault.
What a night I had eating the most delicious food I have had in a very long while.
One of my fave restaurants in MTL. I love their concept of surprising you with the food brought without giving you a menu. They use simple ingredients to make delicious dishes with complex flavors & textures. They also have a non alcoholic wine pairing & they're all unique & goes well with the dishes.
The service is quick & the staff are very friendly. The place is small but cozy with a nice dark ambience.

Delicious tasting menu & generally great wine pairings. I found it hard to hear the servers for some reason, but overall it was a great experience with some really creative dishes & flavors. I'd definitely return.
Amazing experience here. They are serious when they say they can accommodate not only food allergies but dislikes - this is a true sign of unpretentious. All the dishes were incredibly varied, nothing I'd ever had before (in a good way), & well balanced. Great crowd too, again not pretentious just clearly people who enjoy good food. I very much hope to return perhaps during another season to try a different set of ingredients. Bravo!
Amazing dining experience from start to finish. Each dish was so unique & well crafted. Recommend to go with the wine pairing that complement each dish. Loved that the explanations of the dishes told the intent behind each & where ingredients were sourced within the region. Atmosphere in the restaurant is quite casual & quaint. Fills up quick with guests but it made for a cozy atmosphere. Highly recommend to everyone, one of a kind restaurant & nowhere like it in Montreal.
Delicious & interesting dishes. Unpretentious location & vibe for this type of place. I have been twice & both times everyone was impressed. I look forward to going back.

It was ok. You know when the presentation exceeds the taste. It was as though everything was in a sauce & the food lacked the beauty of the actual ingredient flavours. At this price point all details need to be observed & the dishes were chipped. The service was ok. The wine pairings paired well, but weren't great wines. Overall when you are nearing the $200 per person after tip...you should come back wanting more. Aside from the dessert that is the only dish that I would have had more. Oh yes, & the main course a little more of the 2 inch in length piece of beef served. This restaurant was highly recommended but I unfortunately won't be going back.
Had a wonderful experience here. Really warm & friendly service. Each dish was introduced by different members of the team. The tasting menu was seasonal & the dishes had a good balance between complexity, interesting preparations & ingredients everyone is familiar with.
Amazing dinner, absolutely wonderful progression of dishes, & super solid flavours & presentation. Service was a bit disorganized at arrival, we had resos for 8:30, showed up at exactly on time with a half dozen or so other customers showing up just after us. Had to stand awkwardly in the front for too long before someone came to speak with us. Took 5+ minutes to acknowledge & seat us (2-top) even with a table available. This was only only disappointing part of the service, & took until 9pm before we could order. Understandable with many people arriving, but it was the first impression & didn't feel organized. Everything else was spectacular. Loved having different people from the kitchen bring out different dishes. Wine pairing was completely worthwhile. Stellar dinner & experience, totally worth it & would recommend Mastard very easily to my friends.
My favorite restaurant so far. The handling of flavors, textures, colors, it is simply beautiful to see the three-dimensional thinking of the chef through his dishes. We have visited different restaurants within the same range & Mastard is definitely a restaurant I want to keep coming back to. At all times the service was excellent & the drinks were exquisite.
We had a lovely night. All the dishes exceeded my expectations. I feel full but not overwhelmed. Highly appreciate the effort of every staff to deliver such an amazing experience. The only thing that I would like to feel better about is at one point, we could hardly hear each other talking. Wish we were seated on the other empty side of the room or had more spaces from other groups of customers. Will definitely come back.
