We kept hearing some variation of'the best Wagyu deli in Montreal,' which immediately raised an important question: are there actually enough, or any, Wagyu delis in Montreal to make this a competitive category? (If so, genuinely, can the aforementioned influencers please enlighten me? I'm interested.)
Anyway, setting aside the dramatic clickbait titles & glowing slow-motion steak videos, we skipped the famous Wagyu-&-fries situation (Steak Frites'On the Road'). Partly because I don't particularly like fries 🤷?♂? & partly because I wanted a sandwich.
Also, I'm not sure if it's there as a joke or for price anchoring, but the idea of a $150 Kobe steak option being on the menu of a mostly takeout sandwich counter raises many philosophical questions...
Instead, we went with the Pinnacle Cheesesteak, which was apparently one of their most recommended items. First, if cheese was present, it was very subtle-we didn't taste it at all. What absolutely did show up was the steak. A lot of it. I definitely got my 20$ worth on that. You mostly taste beef, a vaguely savory sauce, & admittedly solid bread holding everything together pretty well. (Bread is important.)
For what it is, it's alright. It's well located for tourists & locals roaming around the historic area, the portions are good enough, & the pricing feels pretty aligned with other trendy sandwich spots in the city. No major complaints there.
But does it live up to the hype? No, not even close. I think that says more about the marketing style than the food itself, though.
Exceptional.
Worth the line & wait.
Just the regular fries was kind of Mid.. otherwise
Cheesesteak sandwich & burger were fire
Please just try the Pinnacle Cheesesteak, thank you. (Wagyu steaks on fries is also good, but that damn sandwich is just amazing! Will come back to try other sandwiches...)
Good spot overall. The sandwich was a bit hit or miss - one half wasn't very tender, while the other was much better, so it might have just been inconsistent.
The burger was excellent & definitely a must-try. That alone makes it worth the visit.
It's located in the Old Port, so parking can be difficult, but overall it's still a place worth trying at least once.
Had the steak frites which was pretty good. Affordable menu. It's very small inside, maybe 5-6 tables. No restroom. Staff is good. Might try the steak sandwich next time
Horrific sandwich. Thinner than paper & drier than the dessert. I know beef is expensive, but this is unforgivable & unforgettable! I wanted to this love this place. :(
Good spot in the Old Port with a cozy setup. The steak sandwich stood out, the pulled beef burger was enjoyable, & the smashed burger was just average. Fries were on point & the fresh lemonade was a nice touch.
Le proprio vraiment chill en a discuté pendant un bon moment avant de me servir se delice la. Le sandwich vraiment tres bon. J'y allerais encore si je suis dans le coin!
First time customer & definitely not the last time! We ordered the Cheesesteak sandwich with a side of Caesar salad. The sandwich was amazing; the steak was great quality & was cooked perfectly. It melted in your mouth. The cheese & sauce were perfect. The Caesar salad was a pleasant surprise & was a great side meal. Overall a 10/10
Overrated & overpriced sandwiches.
Taste is not bad, but it's not rich.
There is no restroom & tables are super wobbly you can't lean properly on them.
One of, if not the best steak sandwich I have ever eaten. The thick slices of meat were tender & juicy, the bread was crispy on the outside & soft & moist on the inside. It was divine! Amir was fun to talk to while waiting for our sandwiches. I can't wait to go back & try the other menu items, but I don't know if Ill be able to resist the cheesesteak sandwich!
The best sandwich in montreal & poutine . Head there & order . Won't regret it . Owner is super nice & humble .
La carne wagyu estaba muy rica suave y en buen punto, los sandwich Pinnacle steak eran buenos, la atención es muy rápida y amable, bastante rico
Cool vibe, good food, open late.
Try their staple - chess steak sandwich made with wagyu meat. Is it a bit of a gimmick? Maybe, but the reality is most cheesesteaks are made with ribeye meat that is mostly void of fat, making the cheese stand out rather than the meat.
The opposite is true here. You will see & taste large chunks of beef in your sandwich. An interesting take on cheesesteaks for sure.
Try the truffle fries as well.
A little pricey, but hey it's wagyu, & it's old Montreal. 🤷?♂?
8.5/10
Best Philly cheese steak sandwich in Montreal by far. The sandwich is made with real steak & the taste is heavenly 😋. The service is good & a cosy ambiance.
Outrageously delicious!!! Went on a weekday & on the weekend, & my sandwich was equally delicious. I was worried this would be another''instababe spot'' & to my great surprise it was wayyyyyy beyond my expectations. The owners understand the elements of a great sandwich & they have succeeded. Mention spéciale for the truffle fries; perfection.
Thank you for existing 💜💚
One of the best sandwiches I've ever had. The cheese, mushrooms, & steak were very fresh. The steak was cooked perfectly (medium - medium rare). Animal fries sauce was excellent. Great & friendly staff. Will come here again for sure!
Loved the steak sandwich. So flavourful & nicely toasted bread. If you're looking for something quick & good in Old Montreal this is the place! Had it as a late night snack. Would definitely come again.
A must-visit for anyone who loves a gourmet sandwich done right at very affordable prices. Retro-vibe decor & friendly staff make you feel welcome.
Their Wagyu steaks are seriously high quality, juicy, flavourful, & cooked just right (that char is perfection!). I had the Pinnacle Cheesesteak, the Wagyu on the Road with truffle/parmesan fries, & both were outstanding. MUST is the Animal-Style poutine, it's extremely addictive or as the hubby call it (it's crack 😂)
The lemonades were super refreshing, exactly what you need after a hearty sandwich.
The service is spot on, attentive, kind, & fast! Portion sizes are generous & every bite felt worth it.
Overall, this place delivers: flavour, quality, & atmosphere all in one. I'll definitely be back next time I'm craving a really good sandwich in Vieux-Montréal.
