I cannot say enough about this place. We sat at the counter & had the best service we've had in a long time. Rose was exceeding helpful & very generous with her time & recommendations. She carefully selected the best items for our meal & we really enjoyed my husband's birthday celebration.
I'm sure the rest of the menu is phenomenal but the dishes loved the best were the crudo & the lobster. & I'm not even a big dessert person OR a coffee drinker but the chocolate tart with whipped coffee butter on top was outstanding.
We will definitely be back.
Since dining here once in 2022, the ambiance, feel, & quality of the dishes are still exceptional but even more memorable!
Past desserts, including the classic Gateau Sarassin, were enjoyable & have always been part of the menu - while seasonal dishes like the half lobster dish with buckwheat sauce, accompanied by rhubarbs, & perfect rectangular chunks of fried potato intricately layered together into a whole were new, refreshing, & made the experience special!
The white-painted timber roofs, walls, decor &, playful illustrations & installations highlighting the infamous rabbit the restaurant has named itself, all helped to create a whimsical, magical, & warm ambiance that makes me want to dine here .
Grateful to have enjoyed a meal on the first Friday of June, & look forward to seeing how this restaurant continues to grow & become even more exceptional!
From the moment we arrived, the service stood out. We were greeted warmly, offered drinks & were able to watch the kitchen in action while we waited for our table.
Our server, Rose was exceptional. She was knowledgeable made great recommendations & went above & beyond to coordinate with the kitchen to have a number of the dishes modified so I could try them as a vegetarian.
The attention to detail really set this place apart - plates & glasses were always cleared, drinks were never left empty & the pacing between courses was spot on. Overall a polished, thoughtful & FUN experience & will definitely return next time we're in town!
We visited Vin Mon Lapin on April 7 as a party of 4.
Atmosphere:
Lovely restaurant with charming decor. Warm & relaxed atmosphere. Wish the candles were real, not battery powered!
Service:
Overall, excellent. Our main server & sommelier was wonderful - passionate, friendly, & had wonderful suggestions for wine for the table. The other servers (I believe we had 5 total?) were friendly as well, except for one - he seemed rather unhappy to be there!
Food was thoughtfully brought to the table & explained, they seemed to have had the food before & genuinely enjoyed explaining every dish to us. Plates & cutlery were changed with each course. The service added positively to our overall experience.
Some minor notes (as this is the #2 restaurant in Canada!):
- we noticed staff taking out the garbage in view of diners
- pacing of the dessert course was lost in translation. We ordered a savoury with our desserts & were told it would come first - instead, it came with all our dessert at once
Food:
The food was excellent. We ambitiously ordered every dish on the menu, & 3 of the desserts. We also shared two bottles of wine at the recommendation of the sommelier.
The dishes were very thoughtfully coursed & well paced, we ended up having approximately 4 savoury courses. All dishes were solid, some were exceptional. The crab salad & bone marrow, linzer, mushroom, duck agnolotti, sea bass, ice cream sandwich surprise, chocolate tourte & sarrasin cake were all wonderful, the entire table raved about them all. We appreciated the use of local ingredients, as well as the beautiful presentation of each dish.
Other dishes were well prepared but not to our taste. The leeks felt like a bit of a miss, but overall nothing truly failed.
Our two wines, one white & one orange, paired beautifully.
Overall:
This restaurant is worth a stop. The reservations are hard to get, for good reason. It's a wonderful dining experience showcasing local ingredients to their fullest. Service is excellent. We all thought that in a few more years, with ironing out of some service kinks & balancing out of some flavours, Vin Mon Lapin could be worthy of a Michelin star.
I can't speak highly enough of this restaurant. Easily the best food I've ever had, every dish was delicious & unique. The restaurant also has a casual atmosphere that allows you to connect with the people you're dining with. The service was friendly & attentive & everyone was super helpful in explaining the dishes. I was dining with someone with a dietary restriction & they were very accomodating & helped craft us a menu we could both enjoy. The highlights for me were the carrots, leeks, & pork dishes. They also made us an incredible gluten-free cake; I've never had one this good in my life. All in all, this was the best culinary experiences I've ever had. It really lives up to the hype.
The food & atmosphere were wonderful, the wine fantastic & the service next level. Our server, Fiona, took time to pair our dishes with absolutely delicious wines, & explained every dish on the menu. She really took the time to make our experience unforgettable, as well as all of the other staff.
We had 6 dishes & each one was unique & delicious! Do yourself a favour & visit Mon Lapin!
The food was very good, well prepared & made with quality ingredients. That said, I do not fully understand the hype surrounding this restaurant.
While individual dishes are not outrageously priced, the staff strongly encourages you to order around seven plates as soon as you sit down, which quickly brings the bill to about 180 to 200 dollars before drinks. Portions are small, so this feels more like a requirement than a suggestion.
What stood out was the service. The servers came across as somewhat condescending, which was surprising for a restaurant of this class. A more polished & welcoming approach would be expected.
Overall, the food was good, but the pushy ordering & attitude of the service made the experience feel overrated.
We had their December lunch as first experience & it was sublime. Impeccable service, delicious food, nothing else to say. Took their time to explain the menu. Knew how to pair the dishes we ordered & when to serve them. Can't wait to try their regular menu. Definitely worth the hype!
Not sure what the whole hype / difficulty to reserve is about. Food is bland at best & alcohol over priced. Never was much a fan of French/quebecois food, just bland flavors, salty & fatty. But if that's your thing, go for it.
What they do here best is their ability to push & sell you drinks through'free sampling'. If you sit at the bar like I did, the barmaid is incredible at making you feel welcome & serve you free samples of wine so the'appetite' to spend opens up. It's a brilliant sales tactic.
Great atmosphere though. 300$ bill for 2 main dishes, 1 entree, 2 desserts & 6 drinks. Mediocre imo.
We ordered everything on the menu unfortunately half the things were wayyy too salty or stasted weird. Mostly all the meat dishes. I particularly didn't like the uni with sabayon sauce.. it tasted.. off
Service depends. My friends said Julie was great but our server of the night was a little bit cold & never talked to us. Busgirl was rude & kept wanting to take our plates away despite we only ate half of the food.
Seafood & veggies are great though.
