Chosen as Canada's best restaurant, Mon Lapin was a huge let down. One caveat, the temperature in Montreal was hot & humid, 93 degrees, & Mon Lapin was full. Our decision to sit at the bar facing the kitchen was stupide, because it was hot. Everyone at the restaurant was lovely, but we were miserable nonetheless. Our hope relied on the food, but the dishes did nothing to lift us out of the inferno. Sticking to a seafood theme, we chose to start with the scallop sandwich & the raw scallops from the Iles de Madeleine. Mon Lapin holds onto a small plates concept. Everything is to share. Both scallop dishes were refreshing but nothing more. For entrees, we chose poached Halibut & marinated white asparagus with lobster. The Halibut was the star of the evening, but that star isn't getting a review in Variety. In fact, our comped tiny Cannolis tasted best of all. While service at Mon Lapin was well-meaning, they were all running around frenetically. It was akin to an ADHD convention. Mon Lapin is a casual joint, & the staff goes out of their way to let you know they're down to earth, but it seemed like they were trying to go Around that World in Eighty Days. Mon Lapin has an extensive & eclectic wine list & would fair better as a wine bar that serves good food. No, Mon Lapin is not Canada's number one restaurant. Edulis in Toronto & St. Lawrence in Vancouver were infinitely better. Pricing is fair at Mon Lapin, a little over $200 Canadian for four dishes, one glass of wine & one cocktail.

#1 resto in Canada & well deserved! Everything was perfect. Each dish was unique & flavourful. The wine pairings were excellent. Our waitress Mayou was a gem. We will be back for sure!

Vin Mon Lapin is such a fantastic (& almost typical) restaurant on the Montreal food scene. The design & decor are fantastic, service is very quick, there are a ton of staff members, but the food left something to be desired & I feel when assessing it against its recent award of #1 restaurant in Canada, it makes you wonder, "did I just come on an off night for the ever changing menu?" Service was fast & attentive. Tons of staff floating around to serve you, & very knowledgeable on the menu. I found though, sitting at the bar, I was able to watch constant social gatherings from the staff everywhere - there were just TOO many for the shift. They could have spent more time serving, or upselling, or wowing, whatever it is they need to do. But gathering in pockets & chitchatting always looks odd. Getting to the food, the tartare was outstanding, with these little tiny cubes of something that had the texture of a firmer cheese - it was texturally fantastic. The bread on the dish was a soft, made a la minute almost pita like bread, soft, very ripable, but it lacked anything to it for it to be desirable. It was just kind of there. It wasnt stable enough to scoop, it was too floppy to hold anything so you either took a bite of tartare & then shoved a piece of torn bread in your mouth to enjoy together, or you ate them on their own. The soft shell crab was outstanding. It had a beautifully made sauce gribiche & was laced thoughout with tarragon which is my favourite herb. The crab sauce complimented well & I could have eaten plenty of those. As I get to the "unconfit duck leg", this was not well executed. It was sooooo tough. It was hard to cut & even harder to chew. I would have had a more tender cut of meat if I bought an eye of round steak from Maxi & cooked it to well & sliced it going with the grain. Very very disappointing dish. The sauce though was great & the baby turnips were excellent, super quality & packed with flavour. That main course just really fell flat. The dessert was a nice & refreshing sorbet, although, it was sorbet, nothing really inspiring. Overall - I would say it was a fantastic restaurant, just not number 1 in Canada or Montreal. I would welcome the opportunity to return & try some different dishes as the bartender told me the dishes change out every few days, but I can't say I would return with so many other great restaurant in MTL to visit. Don't get me wrong it was still a fantastic meal & definitely a top 5 in Montreal, but it doesn't hold a candle to Au Pied de Cochon, or Béba. Congratulations on your award - #1 in Canada is incredible. Most constantly strive to get better to maintain though, & feedback does help you grow.

Very overrated. Everything is fine, but nothing is great, so it makes you wonder how this place got its reputation. Perhaps the owners & chefs have lost their motivation. The service was fine when someone came by, but we went nearly 45 mins without food at one point & no one checking in on us. The food was fine, but extremely forgettable, & portions are tiny; if you're going to do a "shared plates" concept, perhaps you should provide enough food on each plate for multiple people. Definitely not the best restaurant in Montreal (maybe not even the best on its street), let alone all of Canada. It took nearly 2 & a half hours to get 5 plates, & we left hungry. We skipped dessert as we just wanted to get out & go somewhere else as fast as we could. There are much better options for food in Montreal. The best restaurant in Canada should be a place you can't wait to go back to again; after waiting so long for such mediocre food, we couldn't wait to leave.

Snagged a reservation here because I thought, if something was rated Canada's #1 restaurant, it's gotta be good right? It was. The dining experience & Vin Mon Lapin was surprising, delightful, & totally unpretentious. I could tell that every staff member knew the story & intent behind every plate they served. Every staff member was passionate about the food, & I could taste the creativity & purpose from every dish. The cherry sorbet has got to be the most amazing ice cream I've ever tasted, & it was also unlike any ice cream I've had as well. Be prepared to have your expectations subverted & expect to be pleased about it! Also, the place has a very casual atmosphere, which suits me perfectly. 10/10 & I will be back when I'm in town. Thank you for the experience!

Had the tasting menu. Best meal I've had anywhere in Canada, ever. Plus, impeccable service, wonderful vibe & relatively super affordable. Will absolutely be returning here everytime we visit Montreal.

Realised this place is steps from my house after learning of it on the news (top restaurant in Canada!) So I went at opening alone on a tuesday & they sat me at a cozy spot at the bar. My server was Dimitry & he was very knowledgeable about wine & very generous with translating the menu & offering recommendations. There was ample Vegetarian options too. First off the service is probably the best Ive ever had. Secondly, the food & wine were a journey. I was able to order half-dishes of some items so I could try more plates & that was a great call. I had 3 different wines which was a really cool journey to taste from first to third, & the food was similar. The (listen im a barbarian idk what its called) cannoli? Canolini? The pasta tube. I will be coming back for the full version of that because it was heavenly. The asparagus was the freshest Ive ever had & the rest was delicious too Very happy to have a new local spot to revisit!

My conclusion is that this place is overrated. We ordered 7-8 dishes & only truly spectacular was raw fluke. I know to expect this somewhat in Montreal but when I said in French that we have to speak English because my friends French is not so good I watched the waiter spend more time with the francophone couples around us & less time with us. The she came back to ask if we were ready for our last dish, the chicken. We didn't order chicken we ordered wild trout. It's ok, mistakes happen. We were happy to wait for the trout & have another drink. Instead they brought it out after five minutes & it was undercooked, somewhere closer to raw than cooked, as if it had been seared & then bathed in ice water maybe, but no it was just undercooked. We questioned the waitress about it & she told us this is fine & normal how it's supposed to be served. I was skeptical. Then after we pay our check & tip we see another table being served the same trout dish & it is fully cooked & flaky white. Why lie to us? The mistake is no big deal just serve us what we ordered, we don't mind to wait. Clearly she just wanted to be done with us & not bring it back to kitchen or cook us a proper new one. Kind of messed up when you spend over 300CAD This really put a negative taste in my mouth & to be honest the carrots are very boring, the pasta with clams was uninspired. Oyster remoulade wraps were good, but I don't think I will ever come back For such a big reputation this place was a big letdown & also the biggest dinner bill I've seen so far in Canada. Bad combination. The wine list & cocktails are formidable but I think you can spend your money more wisely elsewhere in Montréal

Absolutely amazing, totally deserving of the title of Canada's best restaurant. The stars of the night were the scallop sandwich, agnolotti, black sausage in brioche & the buckwheat cake. The service was also exceptional. Would definitely recommend & come back again.

It's tough to be name Canada's best restaurant & I think the accolade leads diners to have unrealistic otherworldly expectations. I loved the fun & upbeat atmosphere of the restaurant. Our service was great. We greatly enjoyed our dishes, in particular the tartare with the assortment of bitter greens & the scallop toast. I found the carbonara serving temperature a tad cold though I understand it can't to too hot to execute properly. Nor did I understand the uni & chestnut dish. Great bottle of wine. All in all a lovely meal, but the "best" restaurant title is probably a bit of a curse.

I really wanted to love this but it didn't hit it for me. I don't get why it was listed #1 restaurant in Canada 2023. Staff very attentive & our mixologist was top notch. The drinks were the highlight. The food, I'm sure very well executed with all the techniques but the flavours were unusual & not that special.

Honestly, underwhelmed by the food, given the price. Best in Canada? NO. However, waitstaff was exceptional & the interior design is beautiful & some wines delicious - so we still had a fun time. But won't return. Too bad.

The appetizers were amazing. What a great start. After that, everything was disappointing. It was just average, which doesn’t work when it’s supposed to be the #1 restaurant in Canada. Tasted plain & felt like it was trying to do too much without getting the basics right. We ordered 90% of the menu so I can’t even use my choices as an excuse. Service was impeccable & the staff was extremely friendly.

No wonder int one of the best restaurants in Canada. The food was amazing, we had 5 dishes, the menu changes all the time. The server Tania chose wine for us & every time it was delicious. We also enjoyed that she was very knowledgeable (not only about food) & casual, talking with us occasionally. We loved our experience & would come back 100%.
