A woman came out & spoke in French & told us they would close the shop within the hour. We decide to stop by at a different time the following day. The next day was a rainy one, it was a 5 minute wait. The full menu was not yet available that time of day. Baked goods, hot bevys & cocktail only in the afternoon. I enjoyed the Le Grinch drink (it was like a big shot). Hubs had a hot chocolate & some kind of cookie. Festive decorations everywhere. The restroom needs some attention. It did not have paper towels & almost noTP. I did alert them of that. If we travel to Montreal again I would like to try the pizza. It smelled so delish the night before when we didn't get in.
Instagrammable Christmas atmosphere? Yes. Worth the 1 hour wait? Absolutely not. Our hot chocolates weren't particularly hot, most of the food was sold out (1pm), & beyond the decor it was super underwhelming. I had high expectations for the drinks, but tasted like a powdered package you buy at the grocery store. Service okay (understaffed). Still want to go for cute pictures? Go early!!
I went on a Monday night but the wait time was around an hour. The waiter was really kind but they are severely understaffed. We tried a couple of items on the menu, the raspberry hot chocolate was really watery & underwhelming. We also tried the alcohol free eggnog- that one was acceptable but nothing exceptional. The pizzas were really bad we threw them away we got the Mtl fume & the la douceur des champs. The pudding chômeur was dry & inedible. The ambience is nice tho, worth a visit maybe with less crowd but I would not come again. It was really expensive for the quality of the food/drinks
So there are places that you know are not going to be amazing but you go anyway. La Taverne de Noel manages to underdeliver above all expectations. We saw the reviews weren't amazing but decided to do it for the atmosphere. After waiting in line for 45 mins (at 2pm on a Sunday) we noticed that the main reason the line-up was so long was that the staff was so overwhelmed with running the place they wouldn't notice when people would leave, so we'd be staring at what were empty seats for 10 minutes straight. The drinks weren't amazing & the food available at that time was mediocre. All & all it was crowded & poorly managed, it felt like the main point is to squeeze as much money out of people's pockets as possible, with very little consideration for the quality of the experience. We're not going to go again, I would recommend avoiding unless you're a masochist or there is no line-up:). I saw the owner replies to these reviews, & I was under the impression that the feedback is taken into consideration but I was very disappointed to see that the bad reviews are very spot on & the replies be a cheap way of damage control. No ill comment towards the staff, they seemed to be doing the best they could given the situation.
Waited over an hour to get mediocre food & no service. They don't give you utensils, plates, or napkins unless you ask. You have to go get your own water too. The only decent thing was the drinks & the fun Christmas deco but even then it's still not worth it. If there's a line don't bother.
Very cute place. Perfect if u like Christmas. The holidays drink are ok.
Very very disappointed. We came with high expectations but we ended up waiting two hours in line. It is unfortunate to wait that long, but at the same time it's understandable because the place is not too big. What was very disappointing though were the drinks! They were absolutely disgusting, we were a group of four & all ordered different cocktails with second rounds & not a single cocktail was good. One of them was so bad that I had to ask the waiter to take it out my bill because I couldn't even drink it. The place is beautiful & the staff very nice, but really really not worth it since the food & the drinks were very mid, I'm usually not a difficult person & I've never sent back anything, but that drink was just too horrible
The ambiance is stunning, it feels like you're inside a magical Christmas tree. The food was decent, with the poutine-style pizza being a standout. Our waiter was friendly & attentive, but the hostess was unprofessional & rude. When we asked for recommendations, she claimed it was her second day & hadn't tried anything. While that's understandable, her tone lacked professionalism & warmth. She refused to take a photo for nearby guests with attitude & rudely told others to return to their original table. When we asked for help with a cocktail my friend couldn't drink, she bluntly refused, though our waiter later fixed the issue kindly. As someone who has worked in restaurants ranging from casual to fine dining as a hostess myself, I was shocked by the lack of professionalism. Any interaction, no matter how small, can make or break a guest's experience. This behavior not only risks alienating customers but could also lead to negative word-of-mouth for the business.
The food taste delicious & the drinks as well, but the place really need more staff. I waited so long for my drink that even I finished my sandwich & my croissant before getting my drink. The staff are really nice but overwhelmed with so much things to take care of that they don't have time to check the order & clean the tables. It's a fact in holidays the place might be more crowded than usual but it makes harder enjoy the place with the crowd.
Oversold. I came with huge expectations, & i think it is a cute idea but it is actually a small place & it feels overwhelming. It is self-served, staff is very nice but it is clear the place is understaffed, so they are doing a lot of things & dont even have time to clean the tables which are really dirty. The menu for salty items is limited (bowls & sandwiches in a fridge & they will warm them up) & the drinks are super cute, but we waited 20 minutes for 1 cortado, 1 latte & 1 moka. You pay extra if you want it decorated. I could tell children really liked it but i wouldn't come back.
Christmas in a cup! This place is beyond adorable & has overwhelming sense of holiday spirit. They have a raspberry hot chocolate & this drink called lait cocotte ( i think i spelled that right) that tastes like christmas cake in a cup with a chocolate & coconut rim. The decor is beyond crazy & definitely overwhelming to the senses but adds to the distinct atmosphere. Great place to get work done, i saw lots of people with their computers get work done & it seems like a genius place to do it
