I was expecting more. Tried their grilled salmon with lemon butter & it was okay but nothing out of the ordinary. Maybe it was not their best dish. Not sure will come back for more.

Love the place though. Service felt cold, but it was a busy lunch hour so i get it.

Very busy restaurant! Seats are too close to eachother. Reasonable dishes & prices. Good price quality. A bit slow service. Some main dishes (Ravioli) are not filling. Recommended if you don't mind seats that are too close & if you are not in a hurry.

Decided to lunch here after reading the reviews.
Staff were both friendly, pleasant & helpful. Great ambience & well appointed.
My wife ordered the French onion soup & the beef tatare (her favourite) for the entrée. I had the warm goat cheese & beef cheek for the entrée.
My order was fabulous. Loved it. My wife was a wee bit disappointed with hers. The soup was below average & her beef tartare was average fare.
We'll try Vallier tomorrow as we're here for a few days.

Visiting Montreal, we found Restaurant Holder based on my desire to delve into Brassiere style dining featuring local favorites. We were incredibly impressed with the ambiance, the cuisine was outrageously good, & the restaurant could have stood on those merits alone. However, it was our server Joe, whom made the evening complete. Joe brings Joy. I do not believe I am overstating this, but my wife & I were so thoroughly impressed with his warm & gracious personality, combined with his professional attributes, we felt he represents the finest service we have probably ever experienced in our many decades of dining & travel. Go to Holder for a great meal; request Joe for a great experience!

On pourrait avoir tendance à croire qu'un restaurant au coeur du Vieux Montréal est un « tourist trap ». Ce n'est pas le cas de ce restaurant. Un menu varié & inspirant, une ambiance décontractée & cozy & que dire du service de Dominique qui a su s'adapter à notre groupe avec Brio. Nous avons tous aimé nos plats. Définitivement une valeur sûre lors de votre séjour à Montréal.

We came here on a Saturday without a reservation, but since we arrived before 5 p.m., there was no wait & no problem getting a table.

The staff were wonderful-so friendly & patient! They noticed we were non-French-speaking tourists & took the time to explain the menu & specials to us, which we really appreciated.

Everything was delicious! If you're traveling with young kids & want to enjoy elevated food without breaking the bank-& in a warm, welcoming atmosphere-this is definitely the place for you.

The calamari was an instant family favorite, the lobster ravioli & duck confit were both perfect, & the mussels were not only tasty but came in a huge portion!

If I ever visit Montreal again, I'll definitely be back for dinner here!

Simple food done very well. Great choice of stone & scotch. Excellent service. All in all a great expérience. The reason of 4 start not 5 is because the price. For the what the food was it was to expensive. But other than that 👍

Excellent repas (8/10/2025) & soirée mémorable passée en compagnie de mon fils de 24 ans pour souligner son succès lors de son examen en Finances (Papa pas peu fier!).

En résumé:
Accueil chaleureux & efficace.
Service rapide & courtois (malgré une soirée très achalandée).
Douzaine d'huîtres (Belles de Jour) fraiches & bien servies, avec choix sur le plat de deux mignonettes (celle avec miso, ciboulette & sirop d'érable particulièrement appréciée).
Excellentes suggestions de vin blanc & rouge.
Entrée de foie gras avec gelée & pain brioché: délicieux (apparence, goût & texture) & portion abondante.
Entrecôte de boeuf: excellente, portion généreuse de viande, bonne coupe, cuite à perfection selon cuisson spécifiée, accompagnement de purée de pommes de terre savoureuse avec petits légumes cuits à perfection.
Présentations élégantes dans l'assiette pour l'ensemble des plats choisis.

À la sortie de la pandémie j'avais eu des expériences très inégales (surtout au niveau des plats quant à leur qualité globale y compris la présentation). Mes expériences pendant la dernière année me réconcilient avec bonheur avec ce restaurant.

Le Holder conserve donc haut la main une place de choix qui m'est chère parmi les nombreuses offres au coeur de Montréal.
Bel endroit indémodable pour son décor (la frise peinte en haut des murs pourrait cependant être changée car, à mon avis, elle jure avec l'ensemble de l'harmonie du décor. À chacune de mes visites je déplore qu'elle y soit encore. Particulièrement dommage compte tenu de la beauté classique du lieu.
Niveau de bruit beaucoup plus acceptable que la plupart des bistrots/restaurants classiques de Montréal malgré l'important achalandage.
Très bonne ambiance.
Service élégant & professionnel.

J'ai mangé au holder un midi pour une tablée de 4 personnes.
Très bon restaurant, bon choix de plats, la cuisine & les ingrédients sont de qualité. Le bon service est au rdv, très professionnel & prévenant. Le prix reste assez élevé mais malheureusement c'est le cas de beaucoup de restaurants. Je recommande le holde

Exceptional Service & Delicious Food!

We visited Holder on the evening of August 30th &, due to our own mistake, had made a reservation for the wrong date. Despite this, the Maitre d' greeted us with incredible politeness & professionalism. She went out of her way to find us a high table at the bar, & we were so grateful.

The excellent service continued with our server, Gabrielle, who was simply fantastic throughout our meal. The entire staff made us feel welcome.

The food was just as impressive as the service. We started with the Paysanne & French Onion soups, & both were great. For our main courses, the confit de canard was delicious, & the onglet was cooked perfectly.

The restaurant itself has a wonderful, lively ambiance that makes for a great dining experience. We were thoroughly impressed with everything at Holder, from the accommodating staff to the outstanding food. We highly recommend it!
