The food at Guy Kaku was excellent, which makes this experience even more frustrating. Unfortunately, the service & management completely ruined what should have been a pleasant visit.
I called a full week in advance to make a reservation for January 2 for five people. I was very clear on the phone & specifically asked whether January 2 was considered a holiday & whether the lunch menu would apply. The hostess put me on hold for 5-10 minutes to double-check & then clearly told me that January 2 was NOT a holiday & that the lunch menu would be available. Based on that confirmation, I made the reservation.
When we arrived, the manager came out & told us the hostess was mistaken & that the lunch menu would not be honored. There was no apology, no attempt to take responsibility, & no effort to accommodate us despite the mistake being entirely on their end.
Mistakes happen - but dismissing a customer after giving incorrect information, especially when it was confirmed in advance, is unacceptable. For a restaurant at this level, I expected far better communication & accountability.
Amazing food, but I will seriously think twice before returning due to how poorly this was handled. Be very careful reserving here -they only want your money & refuse to honor what they promise

La cuisine était très bonne & très variée.
Le restaurant nous plonge dans une ambiance immersive.
Les serveurs sont extrêmement gentils. Il y a eu un petit incident de « verre renversé », rien de grave mais on nous a quand même offert nos entrées & nos boissons. Je recommande vivement & vous remercie encore!

After a year, I finally ate again at my favorite Japanese restaurant. It still feels the same as the first time I came here. I ordered the spicy pork & beef yaki shabu, still my top choice. The flavor hits right every time.
The staff are polite & attentive. The music fits the mood & adds to the vibe. The place feels comfortable & familiar.
One funny downside. This place reminds me of someone who introduced it to me & is no longer part of my life. That said, no regrets. The food & the experience stay solid.
Overall, a great visit. A must try.

This is the second time I've been here & unfortunately the last.
One of my friend has a severe sesame allergy, she called beforehand to ask & let them know. We told them the moment we sat down & they told us they'd ask the kitchen & remove the sesame when they could or at least let us know in advance.
To our shock, ALL the plates came with sesame seeds. They did NOT warn us, & when we asked if at least they could make sure there wasn't sesame seeds in the last plates they said it was too late & that the plates were already made. & that was after we told them on 3 different occasions.
At this point the taste isn't the question, this was simply unacceptable & if not for our vigilance, this could of ended in a really dangerous situation.

Le service est top, nous avons été servis par un jeune homme très bienveillant & attentif.
La cuisine est vraiment vraiment très bonne,
Nous avons pris un combo spécial pour les fêtes de fin d'année.
Le vin parfait j'ai pris un verre de chardonnay & mon mari un verre de Pinot noir,

Went for a birthday celebration for me & my friend. Not only was the food so delicious but the service is top notched. They even provided us complementary dessert for our birthdays. Ordered a bunch of appetizers, meat & even cocktails, everything was fairly priced. Would 100% recommend!

Concept sympa, mais portions petites, cuisson laborieuse sur le grill, qui noircit vite. Pas de refill d'eau alors que nos verres sont vidés. On ne nous demande pas si on veut commander d'autres choses à part les desserts.
Les desserts sont copieux par contre.
La serveuse ne parlait pas français, ce qui est de plus en plus courant en centre-ville malheureusement…

3 of us ordered the 3 person set, server tried hard to talk us out of it, said it's a challenge. It ealws not. Was a good amount of food for 3 hungry people, noodles & rice were excellent, the green salad is not.. Tokyo tea isn't good but we knew that when we ordered it.

Highly recommend this restaurant. Make sure to make reservations as the chances of getting a table without one is slim. The service was amazing & the food was delicious. Definitely worth the money. Can't wait to go back.
Update 7 years later! It's still amazing! This time around we did the holiday special for 2 & it was perfect with the smores dessert! Delicious!!!!
