The quality of the food at Gibbys deserves to be among the best French restaurants in Canada. When coming here, no one can ignore the signature dish like beef wellington. My sister & I chose the following dishes: - Beef Wellington (main course) ~ $85 - Diane Steak (main course) ~ $83 - Crème Brûlée (dessert) ~ $18 - Domaine Jean-Jacques Confuron Chambolle-Musigny 2020 (French red wine) ~ $286 one bottle - Cosme Palacio Rioja 2018 (Spanish red wine) ~ $52 one bottle Once you try the beefsteak here, you will understand why Gibbys is known as the best beefsteak restaurant in Montreal. The medium rare beefsteak at Gibbys is always perfect, the red meat is tender & juicy, melting in your mouth. Every dish is prepared with high-quality ingredients & beautifully presented, showing that Gibbys is a classy restaurant. Besides the excellent beefsteak, the sauces are equally delicious, but the most favorite is the Bordelaise sauce - a classic French sauce named after the Bordeaux region of France, famous for its wine. The sauce is made from dry red wine, bone marrow, butter, chives & demi-glace sauce. I chose the Domaine Jean-Jacques Confuron 2020 (France) & my sister chose the Cosme Palacio Rioja 2018 (Spain). The 100% French pinot noir I chose was a typical Burgundy - it had rich, ripe fruit aromas, especially on the palate, with intense red berries, & earthy aromas such as forest floor, dried leaves & bay leaves. On the palate, the wine was ripe & sweet, quickly turning sour & the finish was a strong one with a certain structure. This Chambolle Musigny is very elegant, very pleasant on the palate with a strong, expressive finish - a great wine to accompany a meal at this stage. The Spanish Cosme Palacio is a good choice for the price, a delicate combination of blackberries, plums, crushed stone, concrete, wet earth & fresh mushrooms. It had a rich flavour - a complex finish that enveloped the palate. At Gibbys, this is the definition of a fine dining experience. Not only the luxurious space, quality dishes, Gibbys also affirms its class with professional service style. The plus point for Gibbys is the hospitality, enthusiastic & thoughtful service staff are always ready to advise customers on choosing dishes & choosing wine to go with. A perfect date night with my sister in yellow candles & melodious music, in addition, crème brûlée - a classic French dessert is the perfect ending to the meal. Price does not include 15% VAT & 25% tip. Total bill is over $750 for 2 people with 2 bottles of wine, a completely reasonable price. CA$377 / 1 person ~ 6.9 million VND (US$278)

What a wonderful location. Really good steak & potatoes. The rest is sub par. Waiter did not know the wine list. (3x SAQ prices!) Save half the bill & go to the Keg.

My first experience here. The ambiance was very pleasant. My waiter Alessandro was a nice & helpful person. The octopus was good but I have experienced much better at 40 westt. The rib steak was up to par & the side were simply delicious. How when I attend a restaurant at pay over 300$ for a couple , I would expect that any waiter pour the wine & water. At no time did anyone pour it. Very disappointed in the service. But I did tip myself for pouring it. Lol Whenever I attend a classy restaurant, the waiters usually share that responsibility. Another waiter saw me pouring the wine & never offered. Sad. That was my only negative experience. Hope the owner reads this post & corrects this because I really like this place. Note: the people that can destroy your business are your employees.

This was my first experience at Gibbys & I was blown away. The location Is in this beautiful old Montreal building & there is a valet to park your car. The wine menu is quite extensive & found the wine of our pick with no problems. There was jazz music playing in the background & the place was packed even on a Tuesday night. I took the filet mignon with a side of lobster. The lobster was small, yet still very good. The filet mignon left me speechless. Best I've ever had. My husband got the beef Wellington & it was AMAZING. The palet cleansers were the perfect addition for each course. Our waiter was ok, not the best service, but still a polite gentleman. Would 100% return again

Overall, it was a good experience with a very intimate setting. Unfortunately, our wine glasses & utensils had stains, but they promptly replaced them. My chicken was undercooked initially, but they quickly made a new plate, which was delicious. I would give it a 4/5 overall.

Enjoy an upscale dining experience in a historic building which used to be a stable. This classic steakhouse features your typical cuts of steak with optional seafood additions for surf & turf. Wine selection is good & the service was exceptional so expect to be pampered. Alejandro was very attentive & kind. The homemade bread & the kosher pickles were great. The steaks were pretty good & the house salad was delicious.

Montreal is known for its culinary excellence, our experience was far from it. On recommendation, we reserved. The location & ambience were lovely, we looked forward to the experience. I'm not sure what the problem was with our seating, there seemed to be ample space, however 2 waiters continuously bumped our chairs when going by, not just a few times but over & over. My husband ordered beef carpaccio to start, which they did not have. When it came to dessert, he ordered crème brûlée, which they didn't have either. My beef wellington boasted approximately 2 tbsp of duxelle, I took the pastry off because I found it hard to believe they would send it out of the kitchen like that & sure enough the duxelle was almost non-existent. We overheard the table next to ours order a second bottle of wine & were told there was no more of that brand, so they would have to order something else. It can also be noted that our server seemed to go out of his way to be rude. Each time I thanked him he would just walk away as I was speaking to him, he seemed unhappy that we were there. Not having ample product, repeatedly banging into customers & overall rude service, I have had a hard time choosing which steak house has been my favourite during our travels, Gibbys has made it very easy to determine which was the worst

Completing my touring of Montreal finest steakhouses. This time, dinner at Gibby's, an institution that I have not visited since 2009. In 2009, when I first visited Gibby's, I had not much experience with steakhouses & I was very impressed at that time. Years later, I have tried many steakhouses not only in Canada, but also in the US & in other countries where beef is as revered as in the US. The reason I am writing this is because I do not think that Gibby's is bad. They are doing things the same way they used to, but I believe that I am not impressed by it anymore only because my taste has evolved. So Yes, my rib eye was cooked to requested doneness, but no it's no more one that seduces me because nowadays my ideal rib eye steak is the like of a corn-finished 40 days dry aged Black Angus, A 40 days wet aged USDA prime, bone-in, etc.. which are clearly not what was offered on this dinner (this boneless rib eye steak was firmer, had less fat distribution, less expressive meat flavor ...but again, compared ..to what i idealize as great today ). So less impressed, indeed, but only because my taste has switched to something else, NOT because it is bad! & yes, if you start comparing to some other hot steakhouses, well no it is not playing in the same league as it is not its purpose neither. Still, it's a generous steakhouse: nice warm bread, palate cleanser, pickles of great quality, plenty of salad did accompany my rib eye. The only thing that i can't put on the back of the evolution of my palate is this : the wine service...leaving a glass of Pinot noir on my table without showing the bottle to me, without pre-tasting NO & NO! You serve me my glass of Pinot Noir while I haven't finished my other glass of sparkling wine, again..NO! & what about the year of that PN? Its description (region, etc) There's no excuse for that.
