For the past week, after going to this delightful restaurant experience, I was lucky enough to be selected to take all the leftover Fagri home.
I had never had such a large amount of fish in my fridge before. Over the next couple days, I had many different friends come over to my house, some that were French, & some that were Lebanese, & they all said it was some of the best fish they had had in a really long time.
This has convinced me for sure to plan a fishing trip to that beautiful country soon enough. Maybe even visit the other Milos locations !
Review: Estiatorio Milos, Montreal
?If you're looking for the pinnacle of Greek seafood in Montreal, Estiatorio Milos is usually the first name on everyone's lips & for good reason.
From the moment you walk into the Mile End institution, you're hit with an atmosphere that manages to be both upscale & incredibly inviting. The minimalist, airy decor & that iconic display of fresh fish on ice make it clear: this is a temple to high-end ingredients.
?
?The food is, quite frankly, amazing. There is a'less is more' philosophy here that works because the quality of the raw product is so high.
?
The Milos special, this is non-negotiable. It's a tower of paper-thin, lightly fried zucchini & eggplant with a side of tzatziki & saganaki cheese. It's crispy, light, & addictive.
?Whether you're getting the charcoal-grilled octopus or a whole sea bream flown in from the Mediterranean, the execution is flawless. Everything is glistening with their signature olive oil & lemon.
?
The Greek Salad: It sounds basic, but Milos proves that when you have the perfect tomato & barrel-aged feta, you don't need much else.
?The Reality Check is the Price Point.
?Now, let's talk about the elephant in the room: the bill. To be completely honest, it is a little pricey for what it is. When you're paying $35+ for a plate of (admittedly perfect) tomatoes or $40+ for a side of octopus, you start to do the'restaurant math' in your head. Because the preparation is so simple essentially just high-quality ingredients with oil, lemon, & salt you can't help but feel like you're paying a massive premium for the sourcing & the brand name. It's the kind of meal where you leave feeling satisfied, but your wallet definitely feels the'splurge.'
?
Is It Worth It? Despite the sticker shock, it's definitely not'not worth it.' It's an experience. You're paying for the impeccable service, the'see & be seen' vibe, & the fact that you are eating some of the freshest seafood available in North America. While it feels a bit much for a'regular' Tuesday night, it remains a Montreal staple that delivers on its promises. If you want the Milos experience without the full financial sting, their lunch prix-fixe is one of the best value-for-money secrets in the city.
Milos offers an unparalleled traditional culinary experience. Milos is a very high-end traditional authentic Greek cuisine. One of the very best I have had.
On the day we were there, the batch of fishes, except one kind came directly from Greece by plane ! Mediterranean fishes are well known for their high quality, tasty meat & delicacy.
I tasted 4 entries, 3 main dishes & 3 desserts. Their signature dish of chips style fried zucchini & eggplant with tzatziki is a delight.
I like appetizers/tapas very much. When at the Mediterranean seashore (Greece, Italy, Spain, Portugal) I used to spend few days just eating entries/tapas for breakfast, for lunch & for late dinner. Milos appetizers are extremely tasty, fresh & authentic.
Here, seafood dishes are often, if not always prepared simply so that the customer can easily appreciate the freshness & delicacy of the product.
Even in the middle of the winter, everything there is extra high quality & extra fresh, nearly like the level I had found at the Mediterranean seashore. It's a true tour de force !
All my taken desserts were nice & tasty too.
My favorite dish : The young lamb chops in hotel/french cut is truly amazing. Highest quality chops, simply grilled, executed to perfection reveling ideal combination of tenderless, tastyness & nice flavor - a pleasure for the palate & nose.
The grilled Octopus is also a staple of Milos kitchen. Perfect, from high quality raw meat to execution. Sometime simple things or dishes with few elements are super hard be executed with perfection ... like a nice bread 🍞
The Milos atmosphere is refined with a touch of timeless ancien Greek elegance thru the multitude long white hanging drapes. The mixt of long straight lines & long curve lines all in white of this bright place, reminded me Oia & Santorin.
Milos is the place we can let ourself be immersed in a smooth elegant ambiance & deep Greek hospitality. This large restaurant is very well split in small, immaculate cozy & open spaces.
The kitchen seems way too small for the 160 seats. The delay between each plate rotations is super long. It's so slow.
Service is not yet par of the starred Michelin restaurant. Eyes contact is hard to reach when I needed something. Some waiters, seem sometime lost. I ended to'call' exclusively Kosmas. Price is somehow wallet friendly for that kind of high quality dishes.
If don't have deep pocket or don't want to spend too much, just skip the deluxe products, fish & seafood, on display sold by lbs. The choice of wine is large & also super wallet friendly compare to other fine restaurants in Montreal.
Upon entering, your heavy winter coat is taken from you & stored away. At the table, the water is served nearly right away, which is great. As in most fine dining restaurants, bread, flat & sparkle water are complementary of the restaurant. With each course rotation, the cutlery & utensils are changed. But here, no details of the contents is provided by the staff. There is here an opportunity of improvement as the kitchen is slow & it could elevate the overall dining experience, by providing detailed content of dishes or how it was specifically cooked or how fishes were caught ... it would fill nicely the waiting time with nothing to do, nothing to put on the teeth.
We had the chance to be mostly served by Kosmas. He was enjoyable, attentive, responsive, with the attitude, knowledge & professionalism, I found in starred restaurants. His contribution made our experience delightful at Milos, even with a kitchen that had difficulty to catch up on speed. & speed only, as the dishes were always tasty, flavorful & delightful.
All in all, one of the very best restaurant in Montreal. If you want extra fresh, tasty, authentic & higher Greek cuisine, you don't have to take a plane to Greece, just go there.
This is the original Milo's Estiatorio & 23 years after my first incredible experience I can say nothing has changed. It is incredible how you can visit this restaurant anytime of the year & find the most ripe tomatoes. The service never disappoints & with my most recent experience Kyia over delivered with her friendly attitude, great menu suggestions with wine pairings we were very appreciative. We were particularly impressed with how she prepared our salt crusted fish with great attention to detail & ensuring that the bones were carefully removed to ensure a beautiful eating experience. The entire team from the moment you pull up & Valet Park, to the maitre d, the bar tendera & bathroom staff all very friendly. Bravo Milo's you never disappoint no matter the city it's always a pleasure. This is real Greek fine dining at its very best, no surprise they been voted among the worlds best restaurants over the years. Would highly recommend 👍👍👍
Exceptional seafood experience. Everything was outstanding from start to finish. We began with a beautifully fresh salmon crudo, light & perfectly balanced with citrus & olive oil. The Greek salad was crisp & vibrant, with excellent feta & clean flavors. A delicate fish cake served over white beans was rich yet refined.
The highlight was the Balaka fish - incredibly fresh, expertly grilled, moist, & simply dressed with olive oil, capers, & herbs, letting the quality of the fish shine. Even the roasted potatoes were memorable, perfectly cooked & infused with rosemary & olive oil.
The wine selection was a very pleasant surprise & paired beautifully with the seafood. Service was attentive, professional, & warm throughout. One of the best seafood meals in Montreal. Highly recommended. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Incredible service from Kaya & Ahmed. They were attentive to our needs the entire time & kept everything clean & comfortable.
We ordered the classic tomato salad & the white fish, both were fresh, flavourful, & consistently delicious as always.
The food came out quickly & the atmosphere was warm & welcoming.
I'm Greek, go to Greece often & Milos is my favourite restaurant.
Kaya is my favorite waitress as well
The service was almost unacceptable. The guy had no idea what fish was I'm until I took him to the ice area, we waited 30 minutes to get served, stuff that was on the menu did not actually exist, & he almost forgot the special occasion until we were ready to pay! The fish was great but ounce for ounce almost the same price as gold! The place was loud & it was hard to hold a conversation. When we asked fir wine we did not get a list to pick from but rather one was brought out snd we were asked if it was OK ( should have called it a day at that point!). Dissapointing
I had a wonderful dinner at Milos in Montréal. The service was excellent ,friendly, professional, & attentive from start to finish. The food was absolutely delicious, especially the grilled fish & the octopus ,so fresh & perfectly cooked. The atmosphere is elegant yet comfortable, making it a great place for a special evening or a nice dinner with friends. Everything was top quality
I highly recommend it
Always a top tier dining experience at Milos. Every single appetizer, main course, side dish & dessert I have ever tried on their menu was delightful. The quality & freshness of the fish/seafood is evident, & the preparation & flavours of each dish are remarkable. The decor is elegant, & the ambiance is sophisticated & inviting. The waiters are gracious & very knowledegable ; service is impeccable! Milos ranks amongst the greats of Mediterranean cuisine, for good reason, & is undisputably the best Greek restaurant in town.
The food was great
However not a lot of meat choices so I give them 3 starts to add more non fish eater choices .
A bite noise place . Very load & packed
Thank you
Service was very slow here. We would have also valued that our server at least gave us a heads up that we didn't need a 4lb fish, that we could've been okey with a smaller fish, but she insisted in the bigger one.
Food was very good, though.
3/5
After having enjoyed our anniversary dinners at Milos for the past 20 years, I have to say that last evening was quite the expensive disappointment. The meal started off nicely with our glass of champagne, followed by our tasty (as usual) greek salad appetizer. We're not the biggest eaters but we do enjoy the quality of food that is typical at Milos. After discussion with our waiter, Damian, we opted on sharing a grilled grouper with 2 sides & a lovely Greek pinot noir wine. We again mentioned that we don't have the biggest appetites but look forward to enjoying the fish dinner. We were served the grouper only to find it bland & definitely overcooked (we both love to bake/grill fish so we definitely knew it was overcooked). Expecting a moist, tender fish, we were sorely disappointed. We ate about half before we gave up on it. My husband shared his disappointment with Damian who sympathized & brought us 2 desserts'on the house'. We had ordered 1 & brought the other home. The'icing on the cake' was the cost of the Grouper alone... $262.71. As mentioned, we shared many special dinners at Milos but this price was a first. The total bill for the above meal came to over $600.00 plus tip. Our bottle of wine was $155.00 which was fine. I agree we should have asked the market price but I wish our waiter would have shared more information in this regard & also ask us what size/weight of fish we would like. In the past, many of the more experienced waiters did just that & we never had issue. Also, we've always thoroughly enjoyed how our fish was prepared. Sadly, we will likely move on & opt to look elsewhere for our special celebratory dinners.
The food & service (our waiter was David) was excellent. The only disappointment was that my wife & I dined at the restaurant the other day & she wanted meat & me fish. The only fish option was salmon (for one person - larger portions of other fish was available for 2 or more people). So while my dinner was excellent I believe a restaurant of this caliber should offer more than just one fish option for a sole diner. Even if other fish was not delivered that day, which is what we were told, a restaurant so well known like this should just find a way to be able to offer more. Again, the food & service was excellent & we enjoyed our meals very much so.
If your website offers oysters as an appetizer for lunch
Please do not tell client that it is a n old website
Update your website or be gracious.
& remember- older women tip well if they are treated well.
Lamb was lukewarm & fish was not up to Milos standard.
& if it is a birthday & you put the candle on the wrong dessert don't tell the person to blow on it anyway.
It takes two seconds to correct & do it right.
& if I ask for Sauvignon Blanc don' t give me something that is not.
& don't tell me that a real Sauvignon Blanc costs more than I-was willing to pay.
I have been to fund raisers & dinners at Milos & this was not up to your standard at all
The best Greek dining establishment in the city of Montreal. The fish is priced per pound although it is freshly caught & a huge variety to choose from. The dishes are always top-notch, can never go wrong with the Milos classics. The service is always top tier & it never disappoints.
Great service from our waitress who took the time to introduce us to the fish market & explained everything. She was on point with everything & made our experience her worth coming back. We ordered a variety of dishes & my favorite was the Sepia & the Black Sea Bass with the amazing dessert that they offer. Baklava & Greek yogurt was def a must have to finish the night here.
Excellent experience! Fish was phenomenally fresh with a great atmosphere
Gorgeous restaurant. Very expensive, but one of those places that makes it worth it. What's interesting is the main dishes are expensive, but they are normal expensive, the appetizers are the ones that stick out. Fried zucchini for $30+... very good, like extremely good, just expensive. We had 4 people, with tax & tip it was $750+ with drinks included. The restaurant itself is very well designed. Extremely pretty & the service was fantastic. The very unique thing was the waiter who guided us to the fish market area (away from our table) to explain each fish so we could be knowledgeable when ordering. We got the milo special (amazing), the octopus (this was good but not crispy enough imo, but the fava beans on the dish tasted like smooth hummus, very good), the cuddle fish (I think they call it spina, is a traditional Greek dish) which was tasty. For mains we had lobster spaghetti, lamb, tuna, & snapper which we all shared. The spaghetti lobster was the stand out.
