Review Summary

CHAT-COLATE offers a cozy, cat themed vibe in the Old Port with warm hot chocolate, creamy ice creams and seasonal sorbets, plus quirky cat merchandise that invites lingering; the staff is generally warm and efficient and the decor earns many compliments for charm and comfort. Reviews highlight the depth of chocolate, balanced classics and a handmade feel, with seasonal flavors and dairy free options that broaden the appeal, but some note inconsistent hours, crowded small tables, and prices that can feel high for what is offered, and a few experiences mention items that don’t seem fully homemade. Taken together, CHAT-COLATE comes across as a beloved cat loving dessert stop with a playful, vintage atmosphere and a mix of indulgent treats.

Warm & inviting atmosphere, with different ice cream flavors to choose from. Their nutella crêpes are to die for & their iced latte always hits the spot 🤤

Really enjoyed the atmosphere here. Enjoyed a cafe mocha & on another trip ice cream.

First time visiting-we were just craving ice cream/sorbets. They had all the usual options, & nothing disappointed. The mango flavor was especially good.
It's a cute, cat-themed café. There was only one staff member on saturday evening, but she still delivered professional service.

We are locals & this is our fav place in Montreal's Old port for ice cream, gelato & so much more.
Owner is delightful & always ready to serve the best food & refreshments. I would highly recommend. Thank you for being opened year round!

Stopped on a sub-zero day for a deliciois hot chocolate in this tiny, adorable coffee/snack shop. If you love cats, you will love Chat ('cat' in French) Cholate - the cat-focussed decor & shop offerings are over the top! Offers ice cream & sorbet (we stuck to hot chocolate...it was -17°C!) for the summer months. Small, round café tables number less than 5 & are very packed together so no private conversations here. It was like being in a wonderland, the cat paraphernalia abounding. The owner is delightful, as was the experience. Pity I didn't take pictures.

It was our first visit, & this adorable cat themed café instantly stole our hearts. Tucked away in the heart of Old Port, its the kind of place where you want to slow down, soak in cozy warm atmosphere with little vintage touches.
We ordered hot chocolate, which was perfectly comforting not overly sweet, just right for a cozy pause. They also have a lovely selection of ice creams & baked treats, making it hard to choose just one 😻

We walked in & we're greeted immediately with a warm smile. If you love cats, that have some cool gifts in there. A great place for an espresso or icecream.

CHAT-COLATE is easily one of the best ice cream shops in Montreal. The texture is ultra-creamy, the flavours are creative without being gimmicky, & classics (vanilla, chocolate, strawberry) are perfectly balanced. I loved the depth of the chocolate & the bright fruitiness of the sorbets-so refreshing. Cones are crisp, portions are generous, & prices are fair.

Service is warm & efficient even when there's a line, & the shop has a cozy, cheerful vibe that makes you want to linger. Bonus points for seasonal flavours & a few dairy-free options, so everyone in our group found something to love.

If you're an ice-cream fan, put CHAT-COLATE at the top of your Montreal list. Highly recommended!

Purr-fect! If you're a cat lover, you MUST check this place out! I walked in without knowing about the shop, & was helped right away. I loved all the cat merchandise & knick knacks, & all the ice cream flavors looked delicious. I got brownie chocolate & cookie dough. Yum! Would absolutely come again if I lived here. 🐱🍨

Cute place, with tons of cat themed items such as pins, cups, shirts & others. The ice cream was alright but the decor & location made the experience better.

Love this dessert place, cute & cozy in the heart of the old port, it's often open late & offers a nice variety of options. Love their ice cream cones & crepes! The service is also always nice & efficient!

I can't say enough good things about this gem of an ice cream shop! This is absolutely not a tourist trap-it's a small, artisanal spot run with genuine passion & talent where locals flock to for a nice treat during the day or for an after dinner stroll. The owner is a trained pastry chef who studied under none other than Christian Faure, & it shows in everything she makes, from the beautifully crafted ice creams to the delicate cookies & refreshing granitas.

The prices are in line with the rest of Montreal which comes as a good surprise, especially when you're getting real, quality ingredients & handcrafted desserts by a trained pastry chef.

The shop has a warm, welcoming atmosphere, & you can tell a lot of care goes into everything. Local or tourist, if you appreciate quality & love desserts made with heart & talent, this place is a must-visit!
