Review Summary

CHAT COLATE comes across as a cozy cat themed cafe in the Old Port, with charming cat paraphernalia, vintage touches, and a warm, friendly vibe that makes the space feel welcoming even when it is busy. Ice cream and sorbet are praised for texture and depth, with classics well balanced and seasonal flavors adding variety, while hot chocolate is described as comforting and not overly sweet. A range of sweets such as crepes and waffles are mentioned, and there are dairy free options for those who need them. Prices are often noted as a bit high, and a few reviews mention inconsistent hours that don’t always match posted times, which can be frustrating for planning. The shop is small and lively with seating packed together, offering a lively atmosphere but limited privacy. Some comments address cleanliness and the lack of an on site restroom, though service is generally warm and efficient. Overall, the place feels charming, cat friendly, and a solid pick for dessert lovers and cat enthusiasts.

Stopped on a sub-zero day for a deliciois hot chocolate in this tiny, adorable coffee/snack shop. If you love cats, you will love Chat ('cat' in French) Cholate - the cat-focussed decor & shop offerings are over the top! Offers ice cream & sorbet (we stuck to hot chocolate...it was -17°C!) for the summer months. Small, round café tables number less than 5 & are very packed together so no private conversations here. It was like being in a wonderland, the cat paraphernalia abounding. The owner is delightful, as was the experience. Pity I didn't take pictures.

CHAT-COLATE is easily one of the best ice cream shops in Montreal. The texture is ultra-creamy, the flavours are creative without being gimmicky, & classics (vanilla, chocolate, strawberry) are perfectly balanced. I loved the depth of the chocolate & the bright fruitiness of the sorbets-so refreshing. Cones are crisp, portions are generous, & prices are fair.

Service is warm & efficient even when there's a line, & the shop has a cozy, cheerful vibe that makes you want to linger. Bonus points for seasonal flavours & a few dairy-free options, so everyone in our group found something to love.

If you're an ice-cream fan, put CHAT-COLATE at the top of your Montreal list. Highly recommended!

Purr-fect! If you're a cat lover, you MUST check this place out! I walked in without knowing about the shop, & was helped right away. I loved all the cat merchandise & knick knacks, & all the ice cream flavors looked delicious. I got brownie chocolate & cookie dough. Yum! Would absolutely come again if I lived here. 🐱🍨

I can't say enough good things about this gem of an ice cream shop! This is absolutely not a tourist trap-it's a small, artisanal spot run with genuine passion & talent where locals flock to for a nice treat during the day or for an after dinner stroll. The owner is a trained pastry chef who studied under none other than Christian Faure, & it shows in everything she makes, from the beautifully crafted ice creams to the delicate cookies & refreshing granitas.

The prices are in line with the rest of Montreal which comes as a good surprise, especially when you're getting real, quality ingredients & handcrafted desserts by a trained pastry chef.

The shop has a warm, welcoming atmosphere, & you can tell a lot of care goes into everything. Local or tourist, if you appreciate quality & love desserts made with heart & talent, this place is a must-visit!

Lovely place! Cozy atmosphere with lots of interesting cat miscellaneous. I've recently moved to Montreal & was craving sweet crepes when I came across Chat-Colate. Of course, I ordered the "Fiesta" crepe (it seems to be the most ordered sweet there) that comes with banana, strawberry, Nutella, whipping cream & vanilla ice cream. I must say: it was delicious! They also have ice cream, & coffee for those looking for a lighter after-meal dessert/drink. Just be aware it's a small shop, so I assume it must be a bit difficult to find a place to sit during busy hours. Anyway, I highly recommend it!

CHAT-COLATE is a really nice place to enjoy a coffee or ice cream. The design of the shop is unique, & they offer a lot of interesting products. Unfortunately, during our visit, we were less lucky as something happened, & water was dripping from the ceiling near the tables, making it difficult to sit & enjoy our coffee. However, we still appreciated the atmosphere & hope they've fixed the issue.
