Review Summary

Carlota Boulangerie Mexicaine earns strong praise for authentic Mexican pastries, with rosca de Reyes, goyave pastries, conchas, pan de muerto, tamales, and horchata repeatedly noted for freshness, flavor, and quality. The offerings are described as light and flaky with clear respect for traditional flavors, and the bakery is celebrated for vibrant variety and aromas that feel like a taste of Mexico in Montreal. However a few reviews report dryness and uneven quality in the rosca de reyes this year, and some note that prices are high but worth it for the craftsmanship. Service is described as warm, friendly and knowledgeable, with staff offering helpful recommendations and tasting guidance. Limited or no seating inside is a common caveat, making it more of a takeout destination, though the overall experience and energy remain highly regarded. Overall, the bakery is seen as a standout and a must visit for those seeking authentic Mexican baked goods in the area.

I've been coming to this place for over quite some time now, & I love it every single time. As a Mexican who has lived here for over 12 years, & after trying tamales & conchas all over the city, these are by far the most authentic & flavorful. Every time I go, the bread is fresh & the oaxacan hot chocolate is fantastic.
I also love walking in & hearing Spanish being spoken, as well as the warm, familiar sound of strong Spanish accents. It feels like being transported to Mexico. That's how magical this little, cozy boulangerie is.
I particularly appreciate that this place is woman owned & that she hires a diverse workforce & she is transparent about her locally sourced ingredients & recipes. After being a loyal customer for a while, I recently attended one of her pan de muerto workshops with my son, & we absolutely loved it. It wasn't just a baking class; it was also a history lesson with a dose of food chemistry & more. It lasted four hours & was worth every penny.
& to those leaving negative reviews, it's disheartening to see people with Hispanic last names trying to diminish a fellow Hispanic's business in a world where authenticity is scarce. Ignore the bad reviews , get your tamal, order your dirty horchata (coffee with horchata) & buy happy! Park by the high school, no there's no seating (but who cares?! You are there for the food not for the sitting) & as you would with every other bakery go there early! Sharing a pic of the inside of my bread for those who say her bread is bad. It isn't in my eyes.

The only mexican bakery that I actually take some time of my weekend to visit, all the bread is exquisite but the tamales are delicious as well. Really worth the visit if you are into Mexican food.

The most innovative bakery I've ever been to. Best pastries bursting with flavor. I cannot express how crispy yet fluffy their croissant like inventions are. & if you are Cuban, the guava & cheese pastry is better than anything you've ever had anywhere, including Miami. The best part? The vibe. They have some ancestral magick all up in there!!!!

I love this bakery/cafe! Everyone is so friendly & welcoming. Their coffee is delicious & the authentic Mexican pastries are even better. I just had their in house baked rosemary/oregano bread for the first time today & I can't stop eating it. So fresh & full of herbs, I'm obsessed.. 100/10

Nice little small bakery that I had saved on Google Maps that I wanted to try. I had never had a freshly made concha & wanted to try one to see how they actually were before I attempted to make these at home. I've had one from a gas station that was prepackaged to have that was probably definitely nowhere near authentic because these freshly made ones were not very sweet & very airy & delicious. I was certainly impressed on how good these were freshly baked at a bakery. So if you're in the area, stop in & grab something from here you won't be disappointed. It's a very small place but they do have seating outside.

@carlota.boulangerie is a Mexican inspired bakery & pastry shop that is sure to impress your sweet tooth needs & then some. We had just finished lunch when we came walking by this delicious little shop & we had to walk in & try one. Really friendly & wholesome staff that you can tell love what they do every single day. We got a couple of dessert that day but my personal favourite was Croissant Rolled to mile high perfection stuff with a dulce de leche filling, FOODGASMIC 💦, & second was the Palmier cookie that was probably the best I've ever had. We go some other stuff equality delicious, but I'll surprise y'all for another time 😋 Would recommend a visite to support this business & everything they out out, really can tell they are true artists of there craft 👏.

A must try if you want freshly baked goods, extremely tasty from a friendly staff! It offers a great mix of breads & sweets that differ from the traditional bakery item. Personal favorites were the vanilla concha (think similar to a HK pineapple bun) & the guava cheese danish. Addiction may occur!

Beautiful bakery with traditional mexican treats. The conchitas are particularly delicious with a warm coffee, & the dulce de leche roll is crispy & rich. Service is warm & the lady did not make fun of my broken spanish! Big plus ahah! Worth a stop when walking by, & even a detour sometimes when you crave those sunny flavours that bring you back to CMDX.

Ok, here I go... After at least half a dozen visits to this wonderful place, here is my review. Full disclosure, I am Latino & in love with all things from Mexico. Some flavors here are definitely triggers to my Venezuelan sweet tooth. This small, women owned business, welcoming & neat Mexican bakery is the real representation here in Montreal of the best bakery & boulangerie currently happening in vibrant Mexico City. Not only, Mariana, the owner & brilliant mind behind Carlota, is a real Mexican baker but also she is literally part of a kind of Royalty among bakers back home. She carried with her -from Mexico to Canada- years of experience in the global phenomenon that is now Panadería Rosetta. Here in Carlota you will have the best CONCHAS in town. Their bread is the real thing: baked in place with a hundred years old sourdough starter. Bring home a Telera bread & you will have the best panini ever. She also has a beautiful & delicious brioche made with mole. My favorite! Their guava danish is a must. They also have a delicacy called Garibaldi, very difficult to have outside Mexico. If they have them in your next visit, do yourself a favor & buy two. Honestly everything there is an excellent choice. Do not be afraid to ask questions, the service is outstanding. Their horchata is authentic & very refreshing. Great coffee. Pantry items from Mexico available (vanilla, chocolate, coffee beans). Multiple bus lines nearby. A place to visit multiple times. Oh, I forgot, they will have PAN DE MUERTO since middle September, a delicacy only normally available during October. I am already dying to try their famous one made with Mezcal. Viva el Pan dulce! Viva México!

Best pan de muerto ever ! & excellent bread even better than in México. But I wish they were always open & that they always accepted card payment. The lack of consistency can only hurt this business. People are friendly & the place is nice. But it pisses me off so much that I have gone there & 8 out of 10 times are closed ... even the days they are suppose to be open. & The few times they are open there has been a huge line up, no where to park , no produce , or no INTERAC . Almost as if they don't want to sell. Such a shame for such a great bakery & a great chef. The other day I wanted to promote Carlotas bread with my job colleagues by bringing some bread ... but to my surprise closed again ... & on a Wednesday. I live very far & to waste time & gas & be disappointed & frustrated thinking about the bread & savoiring it on my mind ... find parking & freeze myself .... & noooo bread 😥 bakery closed

Enchanting local bakery, very fresh products & super friendly service. The staff took time to explain what they had on display, they are clearly quite passionate about their craft. The rajas y queso tamal was fantastic, along with a dirty horchata (horchata with an espresso shot). The guayaba/queso danish was insanely good, & for a more decadent treat, the dulce de leche roll hits the spot, loaded with a copious amount of sweet dulce de leche, to die for!

Very worth the detour, will be going back soon! Muchisimas gracias!
