Solo trip to Montreal. Want to try a nice restaurant. The name Cadet comes up when I googled Michelin recommended restaurants.
Not far from my hotel. & it accepts reservations. I booked 8 pm. I usually eat at 6:30 pm but you never know if there would be any flight or train delay on arrival.
Party of 1. Checked & confirmed & reconfirmed by text message.
I walked in at 7 pm. Sorry we are fully booked. She turned around & checked the bar. It's not even half full but she goes by the book. Not bending any rules not doing me any favour. Great greeter!
& I left & looked at their website. Text based website in this generative AI world talking about agentic AI. The restaurant is still using old school website
Apparently their menu is not kept up to date. To prove it to all the google masters, I ordered the zucchini dish.
& also took a picture
The dish is very very delicious. Lots of flavours. Fortunately I am the only person having that dish that night. I wish I could lick the purée off the plate. I was thinking of a spoon full sushi rice to finish it all
I also ordered the Deep fried sea bass. Excuse moi. ne parle pas francais. Don't come with a plate next to me & asked me if I want you to debone it for me.
I would do it differently. I would debone the meat & put it back & let customers enjoy.
Good to know the chef had some lots of work before putting it into the fryer
Removed the scales, trimmed the fins & even took the bones out from the fish tummy. It is very well done. Someone don't eat fish a lot might not think of these. The chef did a lot to prepare.
The fish & the sauce is so tasty but the bottom of the dish is raw cabbage chopped up. It was kinda disappointing. The cabbage averages down the great taste of fish & the sauce.
I would highly recommend you go before the owner wants to be on fine dining experience market.
It's a family restaurant for sure. Expect you would hear whining kids or laugh out loud people dinning with you.
Service is neither good nor bad
I am so torn to give you 4 stars. But it is what is it.
The restaurant offers creative dishes with something for everyone - a real highlight! Make sure to try the focaccia, it's an absolute must. One small tip: the dining room is heavily air-conditioned, so bringing a jacket is highly recommended.
This was an excellent meal. Fast, attentive staff & impressively quick, well plated meal service. Highly recommended.
Exceptional Tapas & Wine Pairings at Cadet - A Must in Montreal
Located on Saint-Laurent Boulevard in the heart of Montreal's Quartier des Spectacles, Cadet is a vibrant & stylish restaurant that has earned its place among the Michelin-recommended gems of the city. The atmosphere strikes a perfect balance between casual & chic, making it ideal for a night out with friends or a pre-show dinner.
The menu features a variety of refined tapas-style plates designed for sharing. The standout for us was the black cod (morue charbonnière)-incredibly tender, beautifully caramelized, & full of delicate flavor. Each dish we tried was thoughtfully presented, with excellent attention to balance & texture.
One of the highlights of the experience was the wine pairing. The selections were expertly matched to each course, enhancing the flavors without overpowering them. It's clear that great care goes into curating both the food & beverage offerings.
For dessert, the chocolate, caramel, & banana tart was simply unforgettable-rich & indulgent without being too heavy.
The service was warm, knowledgeable, & genuinely welcoming. The staff made us feel right at home while guiding us through the menu.
In short, Cadet delivers a polished & memorable dining experience. Highly recommended for food lovers visiting Montreal.
The food is amazing & we had excellent service at the bar. Highly recommend the beef tartare, scallops, & black cod.
Cadet was EXCEPTIONAL!!! From the minute we arrived, we had a lovely greeting from the hostess who sat us by the window. The dining room is deceptively large as it widens the further back you go with a long bar along the side. It is a very modern, simplistic, light & airy look & vibe. Our waitress was personable, professional, & prompt which added to our wonderful dining experience. Our drinks were delicious & our meal was SUPERB!!! Every dish came out beautifully presented, amazing flavors, & delicious upon every bite. We look forward to our next visit & HIGHLY recommend!
The atmosphere struck a perfect balance between elegant & relaxed - a welcome contrast to the bustling city. It gave us the space to actually unwind & have a proper conversation, which is often rare these days.
The food? Absolutely divine. We shared a beautifully prepared plate of black cod, which practically melted in our mouths. Alongside it, we enjoyed their soft & savoury focaccia, tender scallops, perfectly cooked oyster mushrooms, & some of the best calamari I've had in ages.
What truly stood out, however, was the exceptional service. As someone who's lactose intolerant, I'm used to a bit of back-&-forth when dining out - but not here. The waiting staff kindly curated a personalized list of everything on the menu I could enjoy without worry, & I was incredibly grateful for that extra care.
All in all, Cadet is an absolute must if you're after a delicious, mindful dining experience in Montreal. Highly recommend for a memorable night out!
This restaurant has an extensive & classy cocktail menu as well as a nice wine list. The food was delicious & each dish had multiple components. The portions were very small & since we were a party of 4, it was sometimes difficult to share the dishes since there was not enough of each ingredient to share. I highly recommend the fried sea bass with cabbage slaw. The service started out strong when the restaurant was empty but got worse as the night went on. It took a very long time for our water to be refilled once the restaurant filled up & we did not order dessert since we could not catch the waitress' attention for a long time. I enjoyed the flavour of all the dishes & it was clear that they were all meticulously crafted but the price was relatively high for what we got & I think that Montreal has plenty of comparable restaurants which are not as expensive. I'm glad I tried this place but I'm not sure if I will not return.
What a fantastic spot for a pre-show meal before heading to Place des Arts. The calamari is a standout-perfectly cooked with a sauce that's irresistible, especially when paired with their fresh bread for dipping. Our server was incredibly attentive & made sure we had everything we needed. The atmosphere is lively yet relaxed, making it ideal for sharing a meal with friends or a date. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a memorable dining experience in Montreal!
Cadet is a fantastic spot for sharing delicious & sophisticated tapas-style dishes. The service is quick, professional, & efficient, making it an ideal choice for a pre-show dinner before heading to the orchestra or ballet. The only downside is that the tables are quite close to each other, so it can get a bit loud when it's crowded & depending on where you're seated. Overall, I still highly recommend it!
Superbe découverte Le Cadet, situé sur Saint-Laurent pas loin de la Place des Arts. Menu intéressant, plats à partager, tous aussi délicieux les uns des autres. Cocktails de grande qualité & desserts sublimes. Bonne ambiance. À refaire. Highly recommend.
Our best meal in Montreal! The food & cocktails were stunning - highly recommend the focaccia with chili oil (we got two orders), the salmon dish with watermelon & yuzu, & the bread pudding for dessert (wow). Can't wait to come back & try more dishes!

Highly recommended.
Easily the best dining experience our group had while visiting Montreal. Highly recommend for sharing various plates with a group. We each ordered 2 items & it was plenty of food - each dish was delicious & plated beautifully. The bread pudding was a great way to finish off our meal.
My parents & I stumbled across this place for an early dinner after shopping. Honestly, we were stunned at our experience! The food is magical, each dish had the perfect amount of flavour & creativity. Our server took extremely good care of us, my water glass was literally never empty. I highly recommend this place, if you go early enough, there isn't a line - I do think they take reservations, although we didn't make one. Atmosphere is a perfect mixture of casual & upscale, great place for friends or a date!
Everything was absolutely fantastic. Everyone there was so friendly, & the food tasted absolutely amazing. They have a huge wine list as well. I would highly recommend this place for a nice romantic evening.
What an amazing restaurant. We are in Montreal for a weekend visit & had the best meal in a very long time at Cadet (our first but not last visit). Plates are smaller for sharing, tapas style. We ordered 5 dishes & 2 desserts for 2 people. Total bill with 2 bottles of sparkling water (no alcohol) came to $160 before tip. Every bite was delicious & prepared to perfection, & the service attentive, friendly & quick. The atmosphere a perfect mix of lively while still being able to hold a conversation. We will definitely come back here & highly recommend Cadet for a great experience. We had the following dishes, which I would all highly recommend: - Lobster & shrimp - Fennel & citrus salad - Scallop ceviche - Gnocchi with pork - Broccoli & spaetzle - Bread pudding - Lemon Yuzu ganache
Fantastic dinner with an even better staff, quality of food was great, staff was extremely attentive Highly recommend
