Brit & Chips is located in the Heart of Old Montreal, it’s goal is to capture the best aspects of a traditional chippy and add some of the local flavour and style that Montreal, and Old Montreal specifically, are known for.
Reviews consistently praise Brit & Chips as one of the best fish and chips in Montreal, with cod or other fish battered light and crispy, tender inside, and generous hand cut fries; the tartar sauce, mushy peas, and even gluten free batter get frequent nods, along with impressive sides like apple fritters, calamari, and curry sauces; service is described as friendly, quick and bilingual in a cozy or small setting, though it can get crowded and seating may be limited; some comments mention minor flaws such as occasional oil greasiness or variable portions, but overall the dining experience is seen as authentic, comforting and worth a repeat visit, including for takeout or a casual meal after a day of exploring Old Montreal.
Staff were great. Mushy peas were truly excellent. Unfortunately the chips were American style fries rather than proper British style chips & the fish was very greasy which is common when the oil is not hot enough.

Another Montreal spot that cured my GF food grief for the weekend. We ordered one GF fish & chips & one regular. I've tried GF fish & chips in Dublin & Malta (Malta being the best yet) & this spot was up there both of the others. Crispy batter, flavorful & crunchy. Service was great, we were there when a big bus arrived but they got our food out very quick given the busy pace.
I ordered take out - picture is after I took many bites! I don't think you can go wrong here - I recommend ordering extra tartare sauce because it is THAT good!
Bon service, ambiance ok bien qu'un peu froide. Je suis cependant tombé presque instantanément malade après avoir mangé le fish & chips de morue/cabillaud (cod)…
First time... for sure not the last...
You know you found a diamond in the rough when the coleslaw is impeccable.
The captain's catch of the month SOLE was delicious.
Our server was very friendly.
Atmosphere was inviting the minute you walked through the door!!!

It might as well be the best fish & chips in Montreal indeed. The fish & the batter were both perfectly cooked. The vegetarian samosas were very tasty, but extremely oily. Overall, very nice place if you're down for a more greasy degenerate dinner :p
Also, shout-out to the server who was on his first day! He was nice & competent
A must-visit for some of the best fish & chips in Montreal. The fish is incredibly fresh with a perfectly light, crispy batter, & the chips are spot on.
With its cozy atmosphere & friendly service, it's the ultimate go-to for a quick & satisfying comfort meal. Highly recommended!

I had the 2 piece cod with fries & coleslaw. Fish was not oily at all all. Lightly battered. Good'slaw. Thick fries, crispy edges. The only disappointing part of the meal was the pre-packaged tartare sauce. The sauce lacked a good pickle flavor. Great service staff on a very busy day. Very friendly & kept every moving efficiently.
A Massive Letdown 0 out of 100 at Brit & Chips
?
?As someone who lived in England for seven years, I have been raving to my wife & kids about the authentic taste of British fish & chips. I've shared so many stories about the crispy batter & fresh fish that we finally decided to visit Brit & Chips to give them a taste of the real thing. Unfortunately, it was a complete disaster.
?The food was, quite frankly, oily crap. It looked like the fish & chips had been fried in old, degraded oil that had turned black, leaving everything looking unappetizing & tasting even worse. In the world of'English style' food, this was a 0 out of 100.
?The only saving grace was the staff. The waiters were very nice & attentive, but when the food is inedible, great customer service simply isn't enough to save the experience. If you are looking for an authentic British chippy experience, this definitely isn't it.
