Brit & Chips is located in the Heart of Old Montreal, it’s goal is to capture the best aspects of a traditional chippy and add some of the local flavour and style that Montreal, and Old Montreal specifically, are known for.
Reviews consistently praise Brit & Chips as one of the best fish and chips in Montreal, with cod or other fish battered light and crispy, tender inside, and generous hand cut fries; the tartar sauce, mushy peas, and even gluten free batter get frequent nods, along with impressive sides like apple fritters, calamari, and curry sauces; service is described as friendly, quick and bilingual in a cozy or small setting, though it can get crowded and seating may be limited; some comments mention minor flaws such as occasional oil greasiness or variable portions, but overall the dining experience is seen as authentic, comforting and worth a repeat visit, including for takeout or a casual meal after a day of exploring Old Montreal.
A very decent restaurant having very few options of fish & chips, salads, burgers, desserts & drinks.
The Cod fish & chips was really really good, I loved it.
Calamari & the chilli sause was just okay.
Very friendly staff & atmosphere.
I found this restaurant on Google before leaving Toronto as I wanted to treat my friend to a good English dinner (she was born in London). Not a disappointment 😀. The food was amazing, best fish & chips I've ever had. Our servers were awesome, very attentive. I even bought a t-shirt to take home 🩷
Unfortunately seems the quality degraded. The fries was over fried/ or they were using low quality or overused oil. So basically not a special place/taste at all.
Staff were great. Mushy peas were truly excellent. Unfortunately the chips were American style fries rather than proper British style chips & the fish was very greasy which is common when the oil is not hot enough.
First time... for sure not the last...
You know you found a diamond in the rough when the coleslaw is impeccable.
The captain's catch of the month SOLE was delicious.
Our server was very friendly.
Atmosphere was inviting the minute you walked through the door!!!
A must-visit for some of the best fish & chips in Montreal. The fish is incredibly fresh with a perfectly light, crispy batter, & the chips are spot on.
With its cozy atmosphere & friendly service, it's the ultimate go-to for a quick & satisfying comfort meal. Highly recommended!

I had the 2 piece cod with fries & coleslaw. Fish was not oily at all all. Lightly battered. Good'slaw. Thick fries, crispy edges. The only disappointing part of the meal was the pre-packaged tartare sauce. The sauce lacked a good pickle flavor. Great service staff on a very busy day. Very friendly & kept every moving efficiently.
A Massive Letdown 0 out of 100 at Brit & Chips
?
?As someone who lived in England for seven years, I have been raving to my wife & kids about the authentic taste of British fish & chips. I've shared so many stories about the crispy batter & fresh fish that we finally decided to visit Brit & Chips to give them a taste of the real thing. Unfortunately, it was a complete disaster.
?The food was, quite frankly, oily crap. It looked like the fish & chips had been fried in old, degraded oil that had turned black, leaving everything looking unappetizing & tasting even worse. In the world of'English style' food, this was a 0 out of 100.
?The only saving grace was the staff. The waiters were very nice & attentive, but when the food is inedible, great customer service simply isn't enough to save the experience. If you are looking for an authentic British chippy experience, this definitely isn't it.
Good fish & chips & dessert the apple fritters best I got so far in my life, moist & bouncy with just the perfect crust around it & it comes with a caramel sauce so good don't forget to add the ice cream help cleanse the palate & go back to the fritters, service friendly & there is an ambiance of music but doesn't prevent you from earring people around your table.
Yeah it's good! But the shrimp popcorn was a joke, such small amount & not worth it at all!!!!! Wish the fish batter stayed crispy! The fries are ight. The coleslaw is amazing! The tartare sauce is good! They have vinegar, mayo & ketchup on the side, thanks !

Great service, friendly staff, amazing food & drinks.
Despite the sauce on top of fish, it was still crispy. It was amazingly soft inside & goes well with coleslaw.
My server was very sweet & friendly, it was very nice to talk to her.
Definitely will come back if I visit Montreal again.
I used a credit from Passeport MTL & ordered the cod fish & chips, adding a beer on the side. The service was speedy, & the staff were genuinely friendly, & fully bilingual. The food arrived hot, fresh, & delicious. The batter was light, golden, & perfectly crispy, giving way to flaky, tender cod inside. The fries looked like fresh hand-cut potatoes, double-fried to be fluffy on the inside & crisp on the outside. Simple, comforting, & done very well.
Tried the fish of the month (sole fish) which was lightly drizzled with sweet soy sauce & comes with kimchi mayo. If I disregard the attempt to add Asian flavours, I would say it's a crunchy & well cooked fish. As an Asian, I would prefer the kimchi mayo to have real kimchi kick so that it can balance the greasiness. The fish my friends ordered was darker than brown (slightly burnt) but the fish itself is ok.
Poutine was good, cheesy & nicely savoury.
I would say this taste pretty much like the ones I had in London 👍🏻
Service was great, the female staff attending to us (sorry didn't catch her name) was attentive & helpful.
