Bar George is in a league of its own. Set inside the breathtaking 19th century mansion of Sir George Stephen, the space alone is worth the visit - intricate wood panelling, grand fireplaces, stained-glass windows, & a sense of occasion around every corner. It feels like dining inside a living piece of Montreal history.
The food matches the setting beautifully. Executive Chef Kevin Ramasawmy's take on British-inspired cuisine with a Québécois twist is creative, refined, & deeply satisfying. We had the Beef Wellington & it was absolutely stunning - perfectly executed & full of flavour. The cocktail list is equally impressive, & the sommelier's wine recommendations were spot on.
Service was warm, attentive, & genuinely gracious throughout the entire evening. Whether you're celebrating something special or just want one of the finest dining experiences Montreal has to offer, Bar George delivers every time. An absolute must.
What am amazing experience. Beautiful restaurant. Food was perfection. Portions were generous. Kevin took great care of us & provided the perfect wine pairings with each course.
Incredible, beautiful space with a hip vibe & amazing food & service. The bartenders rock amazing cocktails. Recommend sitting at the bar!
The space inside Le Mount Stephen is genuinely jaw-dropping; all mahogany, stained glass & ornate woodwork that makes you feel like you're dining inside a Downton Abbey fever dream. I walked in & immediately felt underdressed, & under-funded.
Then came the cocktail menu. A perfectly executed Old Fashioned arrived in a glass so elegant I briefly considered not drinking it & just taking it home as decor. Then the bill arrived & I realized I had just sipped the equivalent of a car payment. The food - British-inspired, locally sourced, thoughtfully plated - is lovely in theory, though the portions have a very'European vacation' energy: beautiful, memorable, & not quite enough to prevent you from stopping at a shawarma place on the way home.
Come for the architecture, stay for the ambiance, & eat a full meal beforehand. Bar George is a magnificent stage with a slightly overpriced script - but as a backdrop for feeling fancy for two hours, it has absolutely zero competition in this city.
Delicious cocktails, pricey but you are paying for the beautiful setting. It is such a stunning old building. There was a DJ playing when we went on a Friday night. It was a bit loud considering everyone was there to eat/talk etc., but the vibe was fun.
Had an absolutely wonderful dining experience here! The atmosphere was warm & welcoming from the moment we walked in. Our server was attentive & knowledgeable about the menu, offering great recommendations. The food was exceptional - fresh ingredients, perfectly seasoned, & beautifully presented. Every dish we tried was bursting with flavor. The portions were generous & well worth the price. The restaurant was clean & well-maintained, & despite being busy, we didn't feel rushed. The dessert was the perfect ending to our meal. We'll definitely be returning soon & would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a great meal & excellent service. Five stars!
Located within the Le Mount Stephen hotel, Bar George is one of the most esthetically beautiful, historical restaurants that we've ever stepped foot in. The place is gorgeous inside & the food & service was excellent as well. If your looking for a special occasion place to dine in Montreal, you can't get much better then Bar George!
Immersed in beautiful woodwork & historic setting, ou go to is the bar for martinis & those arancini.
A rail 🚂baron's mansion that is nearly as old as our country could easily be a b&b, beautiful & boring. But not this place, it has a vibrant yet chill atmosphere. I love sitting here & soaking in the atmosphere & people… & don't miss the Matane shrimp toast. 😋
A beautiful restaurant. I visited here a few times. Always enjoyed the food & atmosphere. The only thing I would say is the portion size, & it's a bit pricey for the amount of food offered. For example, today we went for brunch. The dish is so small. We had to order side dishes to feel a bit full. I recommend that the restaurant reconsider its portion size. Maybe supply those nice duck fat potatoes as part of the meal. I think when customers feel satisfied & full, they will come back.
I was really looking forward to this one as it's such a beautiful space, but it honestly let me down. I was seated at the bar & took quite a while to even be acknowledged while it wasn't very busy. Ordered a cocktail that was pretty basic & a burger. The burger was ok, nicely cooked - but the bun was very dry. Salad with it was nice, but you can get a better burger for half the price. No one came by to ask about the food or even if I wanted another drink. When time for staff turnover, they ask everyone to settle up which I always hate. That's not on the servers but rather on the restaurant's tip structure, but it's just not great practise as they were pressuring all the guests (the people beside me were talking about it as well after they agreed). Overall though the food was average at best & service really not great. Very nice space though!
We ordered the beef wellington, drinks & dessert. Everything was divine.
Kevin provided exceptional service & his wine pairing recommendations hit the mark.
Can't wait to return to this beautiful spot!
Food was great. Server was overwhelmed with tables & forgot half of anything we ordered. Beautiful place
Bar George - A Stunning Blend of History, Luxury, & Elegance
Bar George at the Le Mount Stephen hotel is truly a spectacular experience from the moment you walk through the doors. The historic architecture is breathtaking rich woodwork, ornate details, & a grand, gilded-age feel that transports you to another era. Every corner of the space reflects luxury & refinement, making it one of Montréal's most visually stunning dining & cocktail destinations.
The dark, intimate ambiance makes it the perfect setting to enjoy their luxurious cocktails. Whether you're relaxing at the bar or seated in one of their elegant dining spaces, each drink feels like a crafted masterpiece, balanced, flavorful, & beautifully presented.
One thing to keep in mind is that Bar George can get very busy. The wait can be long, especially during peak hours or if you're coming with a larger group, so reservations are highly recommended. It's definitely worth planning ahead to fully enjoy everything this incredible venue has to offer.
I'll absolutely be returning, whether it's for another unforgettable meal, to sip cocktails in that gorgeous atmosphere, or even to stay at the Le Mount Stephen hotel. Bar George is one of those places that leaves a lasting impression, combining historic charm with modern luxury perfectly.
Had an incredible experience at Bar George, special shoutout to our server Jay, he was genuinely one of the best servers I've had in Montreal . Attentive , super friendly & gave great recommendations. He made the whole evening feel effortless.
If you're looking for amazing food, beautiful ambiance, & top-tier service, Bar George is definitely worth it!
I loved it, it's an special place for special moments I went with my wife & we had a great time there, the attention is really good, the place is really beautiful you can have really good pictures there, & finally the food was really good, I ordered the abeef Wellington & it was perfect.
Advice: there are plenty of parking places near & once inside try to take a picture with you on the stairs that drives you to the second floor that will be a perfect photo.
Beautiful interior is the biggest selling point in my opinion. Food is also delicious; we had beef willing ton & lobster risotto. The price was just a bit too much for what it is.
I was recently in Montréal to record some new music &, before arriving, I had already scoped out Bar George as a possible dinner spot. On one of my morning walks - my favorite way to clear my head & find inspiration - I passed by the restaurant & was immediately struck by the stunning building it's housed in: the historic Le Mount Stephen Hotel. It blends old-world charm with modern elegance in the best way.
That evening, I returned for dinner with a friend, & from the moment we stepped in, the staff made us feel right at home. The menu was creative & inviting, the decor a bold & beautiful mix of British tradition with a distinctly Quebecois flair - & the food? Absolutely next-level. Every dish was a standout.
Bar George isn't just a meal; it's an experience - one I'd recommend to anyone visiting Montréal. First class all around.
