We dined here for the first time on Saturday April 5th, we made a reservation for 7 people to celebrate a birthday. First impression was how beautiful & spacious this restaurant is - it is really grand on all levels. High ceilings, tasteful & timeless decor, brick walls, open concept kitchen & even real hand towels in the bathroom, this was a nice touch.
We were seated in the bar area, Michael was our server for the night. He was very friendly & great at providing recommendations.
Our group enjoyed a 3 course meal & thoroughly loved all the foods we sampled. My main course of filet mignon was probably the most tender & delicious steak I've ever had. The garlic mashed potatoes, truffle fries & loaded baked potato were equally delicious. For those who got seafood, the flavors & cook were on point as well.
In terms of decor, service & food, 40 West checked all the right boxes. If you are looking to celebrate a special occasion or want to feel like royalty, this is the place to be. Of course, there is a price tag - I found certain items quite expensive for value. Example the burrata appetizer with 3 slices of tomatoes, this was $31. When you add on a main meal or drinks & dessert it can easily reach $300 for two people. I am not someone who is used to fine dining so this was a bit out of reach but worth it for a celebration. I would consider coming back just for a main meal as the steaks were excellent.Voir plus
40 Westt is a fine dining restaurant located in Montreal, known for its sophisticated atmosphere & high-quality cuisine. The menu typically features a blend of contemporary & classic dishes, often using locally sourced ingredients. The restaurant is popular for its elegant presentation & has a well-curated wine list to complement the meals.
If you're looking for a dining experience there, it's advisable to make a reservation in advance, especially during peak dining hours or special occasions.
While specific dishes can vary based on the season & menu updates, some of the standout offerings at fine dining establishments like 40 Westt often include:
1. **Appetizers**: Seasonal salad, tartare, or a unique soup.
2. **Entrées**: A signature steak, duck, seafood dishes like halibut or salmon, & more adventurous options like venison or lamb.
3. **Desserts**: House-made pastries, chocolate mousse, or a seasonal fruit tart.
It's also a good idea to ask the staff for their recommendations, as they'll be familiar with the current menu highlights & any specials available at the time of your visit.Voir plus
Food was okay, service & ambiance with live band 100. Rack of lamb, fîlet mignon, cheesecake, seafood appetizer, two bottles of wine, $430 with tip, for two people. Is it worth it? Depends what you appreciate.Voir plus
The most uninspired seafood pasta & beef tartare in the most pretentious decor in Montreal served by a reasonably trained waiter at a price point that is two times what it should be for the quality of cuisine. Go there to impress only by the huge bill you are prepared to pay. The Ferraris parked outside do not make up for the mediocrity from the kitchen.Voir plus
This was to die for- a great way to end the trip in Montreal! Seafood was fresh! But the star was definitely the filet mignon - juicy & cooked to perfection! Ariana was also super friendly! Thanks for everything!Voir plus
Amazing steaks & seafood but the place is too damn big . Not a cozy feel .Voir plus
Absolutely stupendous!! Seafood is the freshest, Alaskan crab was delicious, PEI oysters - yum! Steak - the best one I have ever had. It was Cowboy. Perfect medium rare, perfect char. Hands down it was such a treat!Voir plus
Great ambiance, quality steaks & excellent service aimed to keep the customer curious, entertained & in the process making the time memorable. Kudos to Rashid & team for a wonderful evening yesterday serving our group of about 12 people. Now to the main course - the food... If you visit this restaurant, do order the seafood tower - you're welcome! Lobster, jumbo shrimp, crab, oysters - in an impeccable presentation. Appetizers - we ordered at the recommendation of Rashid a few - calamari, scallops, an engineered feat of a small pita with cheese & caviar put together at the table, & Japanese Wagyu samplers- the entire team thoroughly enjoyed the starters. At some point someone asked if we even needed any steaks! Now to the steaks. Rashid brought out a bunch of cuts to explain the different nuances - it was obvious that he's done it a few times, as he went through it seamlessly! Most of the team were intrigued by the bone-in fillet mignon, an 18 oz, roughly 2" thick steak with enough marbling to render a juicy steak after it hits the 1500 degree Celsius coal fired grill. The second crowd favorite was the Cowboy steak. Verdict - from an ambiance & service standpoint, I rate the restaurant & it's crew as 5 stars. On the seafood - 5 stars again, a rarity from my side to rate seafood at a Steakhouse for 5 stars. & the ratings for the steaks - 4 stars. & my reasons for not rating them at 5 stars. Start with the Japanese Wagyu samplers - I didn't find the Wagyu samplers to be in the top category comparing similar samplers I've had in the recent past, most notably Blueblood Steakhouse at Toronto Casa Loma. The bone-in fillet mignon was unique & I've never seen this on a menu till now. It was cooked perfectly well & as you go closer to the bone, the flavors increase as well. I definitely enjoyed the steak. Overall, a quality Steakhouse with an excellent seafood offerings in the Montreal area, which I'll highly recommend for any connoisseurs of a good steak!Voir plus
Delicious food & great service. We had Cesar salad, steak, seafood linguine & the warm apple tart with ice cream. My only issue was they tried to seat us at the farthest table in the back corner even though we had a reservation snd there was plenty of empty tables. When we said we didn't want that table the hostess said she had to ask if any other table was available. The manager saw we were not happy & moved us in the middle right away. Second time this happened to us. Never saw this anywhere else I think they try to fill the less popular tables first .Voir plus
This was our 30th wedding anniversary & as always, we had a wonderful time at the 40 Westt. The food & wine selection is outstanding. Our waiter Sergio was friendly, professional & answered any questions in an informed manner. The Cosmo cocktail was the best I've ever had. While my husband DEVOURED the Surf & Turf with 6 oz Prime Filet Mignon, I feasted on the Seafood Linguini... a literal mountain of succulent seafood with the most gorgeous tomato saffron bisque sauce. This restaurant has been the go-to place for all our special occasions & will continue to be so for many years to come.Voir plus
World Class Food & Service Wow Wow Wow, what an excellent experience. We chose 40 Westt for our company holiday supper & we are so happy that we did. Anthony overseas his team with great detail & pride. From the moment we walked in, the 3 hostesses received us with glowing smiles & all the assistance we needed to feel welcomed. Our food varying from steaks to seafood was nothing less than perfection. Our waitress Farah gave us exceptional service from beginning to end, her recommendations were on point for everyone & she never steered from our every need. Although this was not our first time at 40 Westt, overall I have to say that this is one of our finest dining experiences. It all ran smoothly, everything was delicious & we wanted for nothing. I can only say with great conviction that I would highly recommend to all who seek the best of the best. Best & Thanks, MarcelVoir plus
