A great culinary experience! Our waiter was super fun & made this experience even better. We were in the backroom & it allows you to have a more intimate & cozy meal. The food was amazing & every dish was made to perfection. The portions were perfect. Highly recommend the chocolate espresso cake for dessert! It finishes the meal perfectly. Will be back!
EXCELLENT!
I went to celebrate my Bday & I was really looking forward to try the duck, but the waiter told me they change menu every other week. I order the chicken which was really good instead. The fried mushrooms were sooooo good but I guess everything that's fry it's better. We were a little bit disappointed of the fish. The taste was not there, the beurre blanc sauce was tasteless not good at all, also we ordered the scallops as an entry & same flavor was tasteless. I guess seafood are not their forte, surprisingly because the sauce of the chicken was amazing. Dessert was ok nothing wow but the espresso martini was really good 😊
Tuck Shop feels less like a restaurant & more like being welcomed into someone's warm, modern kitchen. The whole staff radiates ease & hospitality, from the kitchen to the bar where Laurence guided us with charm & precision-she was attentive, informed, & genuinely kind.
Oysters with house-made hot sauce & a pristine scallop crudo opened the meal perfectly. Then came fried mushrooms & roasted turnips-an umami revelation dusted with nori & kissed with kombu sauce & tartness from green apple. Turning a turnip into a showstopper takes serious talent.
The poule ballotine was deeply flavored, the onglet de boeuf precise & bright with chimichurri. Desserts-a coconut cream pie & a chocolate-coriander pairing-sealed the evening with quiet brilliance.
Refined, intimate, & confident, Tuck Shop is what every neighborhood restaurant should aspire to be.
We had & amazing experience at this restaurant, starting from the reservations weeks ago to by boydfriend's birthday dinner last night! If I could give them 6 stars I would !
I researched a lot of restaurants for my boyfriend's birthday because he loves steak & I don't know that much about it. I ended up going with Tuck Shop because I saw many good reviews on Reddit regarding their Hanger Steak. Since I'd never been, I dm'd their instagram account to ask some questions about the menu & ways to make the evening special for my boyfriend.
From the get-go, the whole team was amazing & kind & professional. I first asked about getting a menu printed without the prices, but they ended up making us a custom Tasting Menu that was to DIE FOR! Their attention to detail was incredible, with adding my boyfriend's name to the menu & sitting us in a corner. They put us at a 4 ppl table, so we had plenty of space, it felt very cozy & they put a bunch of flowers on the table. It was raining (even though we're in august) & I was worried about our comfort, but they were very nice & reassured me & put us right beneath a heater.
The service was wonderful, plates were explained to us, the food was SO GOOD. Everything melted in your mouths, it felt very gastronomic & home-made. The plates were gorgeous, the different tastes went very well together & the chef came out & presented us the dessert. The servers were all so kind & interested in us, making the evening so memorable. The vibe was STUNNING!! There were cute little outisde lights that made it romantic too. They gave us all three of their desserts & added a little candle for my boyfriend to blow as well as a complimentary after-dinner-liqueur. The owner & the whole team clearly worked together to make this night remarkable & extraordinary for us :)
I can't stop gushing about this night & our experience, they definetely gained a new & loyal fan & free advertising to all of my friends & family haha
Our experience was, unfortunately, disappointing. We were a table of three on a Saturday night, & the overall atmosphere was overwhelmingly loud. The music was excessively loud, leading guests & staff to shout just to hold a conversation. On top of that, the open kitchen contributed a lot of additional noise. Staff didn't seem trained to minimize the noise, & no measures appeared to be in place to reduce sound. I've been to open kitchens where the cooks work quietly & efficiently, this wasn't one of them.
We were seated directly across from the restrooms, which was not ideal. Guests often left the doors open, though I have to give credit to the waiters who diligently closed them each time they walked by. Still, it wasn't a pleasant or comfortable spot to dine.
As for the food, it was overall good but didn't leave a lasting impression. A special mention goes to the quality of the meat for the Onglet de Boeuf & the lemon curd for dessert but on the other hand, the crème brûlée was a complete miss & the aspargus appetizer quite bland.
Toward the end of the evening, four different staff members came by to ask if we were finished with dessert. It came across as pushy & gave us the impression that we were being rushed out, despite the restaurant still being busy & nearby tables just receiving their main courses
On a positive note, the wine recommendation was excellent.
Unfortunately, I don't plan to return & wouldn't recommend it to others, but I hope this feedback can contribute to improving the overall guest experience.
App & main were good, but the dessert was too sweet. Service was decent. It's a very small yet busy restaurant, so the space is limited & a bit noisy. They still calculated tips after taxes in the mid of May.
My favorite restaurant in Montreal. Wonderful food, amazing staff & an modest chef/owner spending most of his nights shucking oysters. High end food in a casual atmosphere. Truly a treasure! Oh, & an honourable mention to the desserts made by the chef/owner's mom.
The only thing negative I have to say about this place is that it has become very loud. The music could be turned down significantly, Which would make conversation easier.
I never understood why this restaurant doesn't get mentioned more on top Montreal restaurant lists.
