Sushi Nishinokaze est un sushiya Edomae intime de 8 places situé à Montréal, dirigé par le chef-propriétaire Vincent Gee, formé au Canada et au Japon.
Nishinokaze, qui se traduit par « Vent de l’Ouest », reflète sa mission de mettre en valeur la saveur naturelle et pure des fruits de mer sauvages, locaux et importés.
La base de notre cuisine, le shari (riz à sushi), est préparée avec du riz cultivé naturellement et du vinaigre rouge artisanal directement sourcé auprès des producteurs.
Notre espace a été conçu par les architectes renommés de Montréal et Tokyo, Justin Nguyen (David Adjaye, SHoP) et Taichi Kuma (Tailand, Kengo Kuma and Associates), fusionnant harmonieusement le langage du design ancien et moderne.

Sushi Nishinokaze is a 2-hour museum experience & college semester combined that just so happens to serve the best, most luxurious, highest standards of food in all of Montreal-- It's not even close. They are a league of their own.
We're talking about a combination of the Bill Russell Celtics, the Jordan Bulls, the Shaq & Kobe Lakers, the Duncan-Ginobili-Parker-Kawhi Spurs, the Steph-Dray-Klay Warriors... all-in-one.
It's disrespectful to call it a restaurant.
It's history that nonchalantly makes you taste the best snapshots of a distant ethnocentric time in this city.

This is the place where you can go & look, & see the closest thing to a reflection of yourself. & you get to eat it. Have a taste of yourself.

Sushi Nishinokaze is THE up & coming sushi omakase in Montreal. As an omakase experience it is much less showy than Okeya, & the quality of fish & service isn't lacking, & in my humble opinion it is a superior value ratio.
The omakase menu progressed gracefully with a jazz backdrop through different pieces of sushi, from harder/thougher textures through softer textures. The sake pairing matches well from floral to more savory.
The fish is impeccably prepared, perfectly aged, & savory, each piece has its place in the lineup, highlighting the best of Japanese & Canadian seasonality.
The rice is well seasoned & cooked, you can feel each individual grain of rice, & they aren't mushed together.
The wine list is short but impressive.
Overall I would say Sushi Nishinokaze takes the top sushi restaurant in Montreal both in terms of service & sushi & I look forward to visiting again.
2026 edit: After a few more visits. I can confidentely say that Sushi Nishinozake is far & beyond the best sushi in Montreal, & it is an absolute must visit if you are a fan of sushi.
?I love the understated, anonymous nature of this spot. With no flashy signage, it feels like a secret handshake for sushi lovers-an unassuming entrance that leads to a world-class experience.

The avant-garde menu is unmatched, featuring elite-level ingredients & service that is fine-tuned to perfection. An absolute must for those who value quality over noise.
Hands down, one of the best sushi omakase experience I've ever had. The tuna (3 types of cuts) & the barracuda were my personal favorite. I also cannot forget the egg custard course. Such a warm & happy dish. Their sake pairing is excellent (shout-out to David for taking care of the pairing & accomodating some of my requests).
The experience was unforgettable, the chef & rest of the staff was a delight to chat with in between courses & everyone seemed very passionate about their craft & service.

It's like you sleepwalked into a plane to Tokyo & woke up right in there. Phenomenal to have this in Montreal. I was lucky enough to do a few edomae right in Tokyo & in NYC & this is absolutely on par with what I experienced. The produce is all seasonal & the care by the chef & staff is outstanding.
Cannot recommend enough if you want to have a luxury sushi experience.
A superlative experience. Easily the best sushi in Montreal & probably some of the best you have enjoy outside of going to Japan. Plus the list of champagnes are excellent.

This is a top-tier edomae dining experience in Montréal. The intimate atmosphere, the comfortable pace of the meal, the warm wood tones & jazz in the background. Each bite was wonderful. If you want to celebrate a special occasion or are just a sushi lover, this is a great place to do it. The chef is clearly very passionate about his work & takes time to explain each question in detail with enthusiasm. I can't recommend this place enough.
Nous avons vécu une expérience'omakase' exceptionnelle. Le chef & propriétaire, Vincent, est extrêmement accueillant & nous accompagne tout au long du service en nous expliquant la provenance de chaque produit & les techniques utilisées. Les sushis, pièces maîtresses du repas, mais aussi les plats de fruits de mer, sont d'une fraîcheur inégalée. Chaque couvert utilisé est une oeuvre d'art en soi & l'espace, intime & épuré, contribue à nous faire voyager le temps d'un repas. En plus des poissons & fruits de mer importés directement du Japon, Vincent fait une place aux produits locaux, tels que le crabe des neiges & la crevette de Matane (crue!) tout en conservant les techniques & codes de la cuisine japonaise qu'il traite avec un grand respect.
En somme, une expérience à vivre au moins une fois dans votre vie.

I had the privilege of experiencing edomae at its best at Sushi Nishinokaze. The attention to detail, commitment to fresh Japan & locally sourced ingredients resulted in a truly unforgettable culinary journey. The Japanese pottery & jazzy vibes enhanced the simplistic atmosphere along with its impeccable service. A must-visit for anyone seeking an unforgettable evening.
Really happy that we get to finally have something of this level in MTL. The owners' love of tradition & craft exudes from every inch of this place, going so far as to source their ingredients from Japan. It is the only sushi restaurant I've been to here that rivals experiences I've had in Japan.
