Sushi Nishinokaze is an intimate, 8-seat Edomae sushiya in Montreal, led by Canada and Japan trained chef-owner Vincent Gee.
Nishinokaze, which translates to "West Wind," reflects his mission to showcase the pristine natural flavor of both local and imported wild seafood.
The foundation of our cuisine, the shari (sushi rice), is crafted using naturally grown rice and artisanal red vinegar sourced directly from the producers.
Our space was designed by acclaimed Montreal and Tokyo-born architects Justin Nguyen (David Adjaye, SHoP) and Taichi Kuma (Tailand, Kengo Kuma and Associates), blending old world and modern design language seamlessly.
As a “living gallery,” we present ancient and contemporary ceramics in their most beautiful state: in use. Our unparalleled collection, which changes monthly, spans over 5,000 years of Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Vietnamese, Middle Eastern, and Western pottery.
We offer a carefully curated selection of rare sake, Burgundy, Champagne, and natural wines.

?I love the understated, anonymous nature of this spot. With no flashy signage, it feels like a secret handshake for sushi lovers-an unassuming entrance that leads to a world-class experience.

The avant-garde menu is unmatched, featuring elite-level ingredients & service that is fine-tuned to perfection. An absolute must for those who value quality over noise.
Hands down, one of the best sushi omakase experience I've ever had. The tuna (3 types of cuts) & the barracuda were my personal favorite. I also cannot forget the egg custard course. Such a warm & happy dish. Their sake pairing is excellent (shout-out to David for taking care of the pairing & accomodating some of my requests).
The experience was unforgettable, the chef & rest of the staff was a delight to chat with in between courses & everyone seemed very passionate about their craft & service.
A true gem. Incredible experience in Canada, secretly wish they were still in Toronto!
Crazy quality & sourcing but the chef & team is so humble & knowledgeable.
True meditation, cozy fine dining, quiet music, carefully curated ceramic pieces, simple ingredients & true artistic expression, just simply well balanced, perfect combination!
My favorite Omakase in Montreal!
Definitely worth Michelin stars! ⭐?
Hidden gem founded! 🫶🏻❄?✨ 9/10! ✨
Magical! Best sushi & best omakase in the city by far! Memorable experience
Five stars is an understatement! 20/10!! Truly truly an unforgettable experience.
Every service was otherworldly, the atmosphere was intimate & thoughtful, & the service/staff's warmth made the night feel so very special from start to finish.
Can't wait to come back!!!
Thank you thank you!
Most authentic omakase experience we've been to in Montreal. We felt like we were in Tokyo. The food & service were impeccable.
I've been to Japan, & this is very authentic, made me feel like I was traveling there again! Thank you so much for the attention to details, the ceramics, the delicious food, the amazing service, & overall experience. We will be back!
Arigato!
Amazing service from everybody. Thank you chef Vincent. We adored everything. Thank you for the hospitality. Celebrated my girlfriend's bday at an amazing place.
One of the best restaurants in the city, & the most impressive omakase I've had! A must try!
Incredible experience & totally worth it. Every piece of tableware is carefully curated as is the art displayed. The food was honestly fantastic & it was a pleasure to witness the chef precise movements & mastery. Notably the tuna & Matane shrimps were really exceptional. The atmosphere is really calm & the noise level kept to a minimum which I really appreciated. I said jokingly to my husband that it's actually like going to the spa but you can actually eat & drink.
Service is efficient & discreet. It is worth noting that this is also a no tip establishment which is definitely very Japanese. On a personal note, I appreciated the Toto toilets, this is always a plus. We also has a little chat with the chef at the end of the meal, he is very friendly & we did exchange a few words about pottery, art, his life & upcoming Japan trip. A delicious evening,
we will definitely be back.
Fantastic sushi & seafood experience that is a must to go to if you like Japanese food.
I am an Asian antiques dealer based in Nagoya for the last 40 years. Even in Japan today, a restaurant using this level of pottery is incredibly rare.
It's like you sleepwalked into a plane to Tokyo & woke up right in there. Phenomenal to have this in Montreal. I was lucky enough to do a few edomae right in Tokyo & in NYC & this is absolutely on par with what I experienced. The produce is all seasonal & the care by the chef & staff is outstanding.
Cannot recommend enough if you want to have a luxury sushi experience.
