Review Summary

Stash Café in Old Montreal is described as a warm, cozy spot serving authentic Polish comfort food with a lively yet intimate atmosphere highlighted by live piano and red lamps. The menu earns praise for generous, hearty dishes such as pierogies, kielbasa, cabbage rolls, golabki, schnitzel, and potato pancakes, along with soups like barszcz, zurek, ogorkowa and pickle soup, and desserts such as apple and peach cobblers. Drinks are enjoyable, with solid cocktails, vodka options, and memorable shots that friends remember. Service is repeatedly called friendly, attentive, and welcoming, though a few reviewers note slower service during busy times and occasional missteps or pricing concerns. Reservations are often recommended due to popularity, and many leave feeling they discovered a true Polish home away from home with strong atmosphere, live piano, and generous hospitality. Overall, the restaurant is described as a standout in Montreal for Polish cuisine, delivering consistently delicious food, a comforting vibe, and a memorable, live music driven experience.

What a surprise this spot was! We had never eaten Polish food before & boy have we been missing out. The food was great! Our server was super nice & helped us get the best food for our first time. We left stuffed & happy. Loved the cabbage & mushroom pierogis plus the potato pancakes along with the barszcz (beet soup) make sure to add the mushroom dumplings. The sauerkraut is warm & so so delicious. The piano player is phenomenal & plays covers of popular songs. The ambiance is kitschy & cozy. Make reservations or go early because this place is popular. A must when in Montreal.

Would die for this restaurant. I'm never disappointed when I go. The staff is friendly & the food is always fantastic. Always a bonus when the pianist is there! Definitely recommend eating your weight in pierogi.

Located in the heart of Old Port, this Polish restaurant stands out as one of the most memorable spots of the year. I tried their renowned pierogies & schnitzel-hands down the best pierogies I've ever had. I'll definitely be returning. Great service too.

Simply amazing. Came in around 9:30 pm on a Saturday & were seated right away. Ordered the pickle soup as an appetizer. Then for our mains we got the cheese & potato pierogis, & the kielbasa sausage (with potato salad, mustard, & sauerkraut). For dessert, we shared a crepe. All of the food was incredibly delicious. In addition to the perfect food, the live piano & the vibe of the place is great. Our waitress was amazing too.

The food was excellent. Don't know if I'll ever have a better sausage & sauerkraut, & it's affordable! I really hope to return & try the pierogis & desserts.

Extremely popular place at 5pm on a Saturday night. Food was great, good pierogi's, kielbasa & the stroganoff was also excellent. True highlight was the peach cobbler which was just a marvel to end off the meal. Staff are super hardworking trying to accommodate everyone, hats off to them.

We arrived quite early on Saturday evening with no reservations & were just lucky that there was a no show. I would definitely suggest making reservations. Just as you walk in they had a gentleman playing piano which definitely provided a great lounge atmosphere along with the lighting. It was our first time there & so we wanted to try a bit of everything. I ordered an entree of 4 meat pierogis which were hands down the best I've ever had. The meat was spiced to perfection & the caramelized onions rounded it out. I had the strognow as my main meal which the mushrooms & the meat were superb. I enjoyed the beet salad. I would say the only negative was the potato pancakes were a bit on the oily side for me. My partner had the Table hôte which came with a soup, coffee & dessert. The soup was very tasty with fresh herbs. For a main course it was the veal sznitchel, potatoes & beet salad. Dessert was apple crumble which was delicious. We would definitely go back.

Went early at 5pm just after opening. I had the Debutante plate & my wife had the Golabki. It was traditional, tasty & comforting, but I'd stop short of saying it was exceptional having grown up with Polish food & having recently visited Poland. That said, I still enjoyed the food & would definitely go back to try other items. The Pierogi were excellent. However the service was disappointing. The young servers seemed much more interested in socializing amongst themselves & were not very attentive to customers. Also, they were not too interested in socializing with the patrons. I don't at all mind relaxing & taking a while to eat, but the disinterested attitude toward patrons was not to my liking. Certainly opposite of my experience dining in Poland where they were extremely friendly.

Piece of home in montreal. I wish the beet consomme wasn't a consomme & that it wasn't just a broth but it was good. The pierogies were a solid choice. The live pianist was also such a nice touch! Would recommend & go back again

This is a lovely little spot in a quaint pedestrian district in Montreal. Overall the food was great (amazing pierogi, but DAMN it took forever for the server to make it to our table. I will say the (busy) day we were there only three servers covered the entire spot, & they DID bring out piping hot food...eventually😂 The best thing about this place, however, was the live piano player in the corner keying up all the hits of the 80s & 90s. Make sure you bring some singles to leave in his cup on your way out the door; because he'll definitely play something that makes you go, "Wait. Is that...?" He had me at Dirty Diana.

In Montreal for work, & found this absolute gem of a place when I wanted something relaxed & delicious. Had pierogi (potato & cheese, with fried onions & sour cream), kielbasa, & small sides of potato salad (the pickle in was a revelation) & beet salad (amazingly fresh). For pudding, had the apple cobbler. Would eat it all again in a heartbeat if I could. Wonderful, friendly staff & service. Highly recommend.

Delicious!! Got two different borschts, pierogi's, & beef stroganoff. All were very very good. The vibe is also a lot of fun!

Excellent culinary experience in old Montreal. The pierogis were excellent (especially the mushroom ones). The bigots were also excellent.

In general the food was quite flavorless: Zurek too watery without egg & not sour at all. Bigos too sweet & without smoked sausage taste. Pierogi overcooked & also tasteless. As a lover of real traditional Polish kitchen, we were both disappointed. The Brazilian waiter was the only highlight of the evening. The Polish waitress was not at all friendly & almost rude.

Amazing polish food. The pierogies & cabbage rolls are exactly like my polish/Ukranian grandparents made them.

Probably my favorite restaurant in Montreal. The cheese/potato & the beef pierogis were in a league of their own. The pork kotlet was a chef's kiss. Best espresso martini I've had. The peach cobbler was incredible. Great pickle-back shots too. Would 100% go back

Try the pierogies! They are amazing! I had the maple whiskey for dessert, crazy good. When I mentioned how much I liked it the waiter showed me the bottle & topped me off! Love this place!

Amazing restaurant! Food is very delicious! Friendly staff! We ordered 2 beer, appetizer (potato pancakes) - just try it! Pierogies, sausages, & for dessert peach & apple pies. I would say, it was best dinner that I had in Montreal.

The best pierogies I've ever had! My father grew up in Warsaw & we've had lots of pierogies over the years, but these are the most delicious, tender, tasty flavourful pierogies I've ever had! I paid many compliments to the staff & was told that their grandmother was in the kitchen making the pierogies! Surprisingly my favourite pierogies were the ones with sautéed mushrooms inside, I tried three different kinds & they were all delicious. Highly recommended, I loved the crêpes as well.
