I've procrastinated on trying this famous, touristy restaurant for a few years now so I decided to finally cross it off this winter while the lines aren't as bad, because they get crazy in the summer when the city has more visitors & it isn't painful to be outside. I came solo to minimize my wait as much as possible & slid almost immediately into the bar which was pleasing.
Since majority of the people come here for the smoked meat, they are continuously preparing the meat so that they are served lightning fast. Service was not bad at all either. The atmosphere is old-school, feels like this place has probably looked like this for decades & deliberately to preserve the vibe. I'm not a conoisseur of smoked meat sandwiches, I'll usually order something else on other menus so I don't have a whole lot to compare this to. If this was a food I ate more often, I'd probably try to contest the mainstream claim that this is the best smoked meat sandwich in the city. But as it is honestly the best one I've eaten so far, I have to agree with the popular statement.

Great sandwiches.. just NEVER order it on UberEats. Your only options are medium. It doesn't come with the damn pickle either. In person 5/5 On Uber 1/5
This was hands down one of the best Montreal-style sandwiches & poutines I've ever had! The flavours were incredible, with the sandwich perfectly stacked with tender, flavourful meat, & the poutine had just the right balance of crispy fries, rich gravy, & gooey cheese curds. The place was worth the wait in line, as the vibrant, bustling atmosphere added to the experience. While the prices were slightly higher, the quality & taste made it worth it. It's a spot I'd gladly return to for a memorable meal.
I would recommend it only if you've never had a smoked meat sandwich before. We came to try one of Montreal's signature dishes, & while the smoked meat was flavorful, the combination with the toast didn't feel all that special to me. Maybe it is one of the best options for smoked meat sandwiches, but if I had other choices, I wouldn't go back. That said, it's worth trying at least once if you haven't had it before.

I can't recommend this place, but did not have the heart to tell my server I didn't like the smoked meat sandwich. It's obvious the staff pride themselves in their work, but the sandwich & overall experience just wasn't good. The sandwich was soooo fatty, & not caramelized fatty or rendered fatty. Just gross looking fat. The mustard was just cheap yellow mustard. The poutine was decent & the best part of the meal. The pickles were standard, but I thought it was silly to receive just two pickles for that price.They should just embed the cost in the price of the sandwich so customers have something for "free." There was food underneath our table & the place had a weird smell, so I feel like it's not the cleanest. If you are familiar with other famous delis that sell coveted smoked meat sandwiches, just know that this place doesn't compare at all & will probably disappoint you.
We arrived at this place seeing a long line up of people but don't fret! There's another side to this establishment that serves customers who only wish for food to go. This was incredibly convenient for us since we were just aiming for the sandwiches. The takout line moved like a conveyor belt thanks to the speed & accuracy of the cooks! They pile your sandwich with a ridiculous amount of meat (in terms of meat to bread ratio) so make sure you hold on to this vessel of juicy flavor. Meat that falls apart at the first bite & a nice mustard to cut into the richness. Would come back again to Montreal just for this place. Loved it!
I hesitate to write this review, especially given the restaurant's iconic status, but I owe it to the locals & visitors alike. After giving it a second try to make sure, it's clear this place isn't what it used to be. Once renowned for its craftsmanship, today the sandwiches feel rushed, with inconsistently sliced meat-sometimes too thick, & often too dry. The once-perfect balance of flavor has been replaced by a lean, lackluster bite that disappoints. To add to the frustration, the wait times are long, & the prices are steep. It's hard not to feel that the focus has shifted, prioritizing tourists over loyal locals, leaving the food & experience a shadow of its former self. For those seeking an authentic & satisfying deli experience, I recommend giving Lester's Deli a try-you'll taste the difference.
There was a long line but if you're a small group & willing to sit at the bar you can get in almost immediately! The customer service was great & the food was amazing. The poutine & smoked meat sandwiches were both good & arrived incredibly quick (under 5 minutes after ordering). Definitely stop in if you're in the area!

Finally made it here. Ate in at the take out side. 3x water, 3x cherry colas, 2x sandwiches & a fries total with tax $61.98! The sandwiches were great. Just didn't seem to be priced right for the size at $14.50! Canned cherry cola was $3.50 each. Very pricey for the experience & taste. I did love the sandwiches just didn't feel the prices were justified. (July 28 visit)

Service can be described using only one word. Amazing!! Our waiter was very, very kind & friendly. He tried to get to know us & even was okay being in a picture with us! Moving onto the food, our smoked meat sandwiches were a must have! The bread was very soft & fluffy, while the meat was not dry & perfectly cooked! The smoked meat poutine, as well was also phenomenal! It was above average poutine with Schwartz's above average meat! However, like all other restaurants, Schwartz has its downsides. Some of the forks & cups looked dirty & unwell washed & scrubbed. However, the dirty forks & cups do not, at all make a dent in my 5 star review for this restaurant.
Schwartz's is an experience, you line up to get in & often end up sharing a table as most of the tables seat 6 except for the counter. It's not a place to linger, you go in & get smoked meat the way they've been doing it for about 96 years & the only question you'll get asked about the sandwich is whether you want full fat or medium. Still it is for me, one of the best smoked meat sandwiches you can get, served on rye bread with mustard.
Great Jewish deli with delicious smoked meat sandwiches. You will leave feeling full! The lines for the sit-down restaurant can be huge, so if you don't feel like waiting there's a separate take away section with a much faster line. Also, make sure you bring cash!
Amazing Service & Honesty!! Being one of the iconic places to eat in Montreal, I paid a visit to taste their iconic food. I do not consume beef, so went in to try their other sandwiches. The waitress that attended us, was very patient & clearly explained the meat that goes into each of the sandwiches. I ordered a salami sandwiche, where she pointed out that it's Beef Salami( I was assuming, it's Pork). She also explained that this restaurant does not serve pork due to its founding principles, & was very Frank about the turkey sandwich just being a regular cold cut sandwich. Many thanks to the waitress & the restaurant for fostering the culture to put customer satisfaction & food at their top priority.
