Reviews describe Sans Soleil Bar as a vibrant, intimate venue with a speakeasy mood and a vinyl led DJ vibe that transitions from dinner to a late night dance floor, drawing praise for the warm atmosphere and attentive service. The food earns frequent high marks for quality and flavor, with favorites like sashimi, duck magret, and other carefully prepared dishes; some diners note that portions can be small and seating is snug when the room is crowded. Drinks are highlighted for craft and variety, including well made cocktails and a notable focus on Japanese influences, though a limited downstairs drink menu at times is mentioned. The staff and overall hospitality are repeatedly praised for friendliness, knowledge, and responsiveness, contributing to a sense of welcome even during busy periods. Taken together, Sans Soleil Bar is seen as a standout Montreal spot for those seeking a unique combination of excellent food, strong drinks, and a music driven atmosphere, with many fans planning return visits despite occasional organizational hiccups on crowded nights.
i know this rating is harsh but trust me when i say it hurts to say this. i'm writing this review really as a plea that i hope will reach management. sans soleil is the only club i know of that i can go to on any night of the week, without ever checking who's mixing & rest assured the music will be immaculate. if you take away anything from this review, let it be that while the venue itself is a 3/5, the music, sound system & the CURATION & STANDARD of music is a 3/3.
that being said, i think this is one club that could seriously benefit from a stricter set of house rules that most clubs in bigger cities have:
1. no phones on the dance floor
2. please leave the dance floor to those who actually want to dance. ie: the dancefloor is just for dancing, not chatting, not standing still... especially at the front of the booth.
i can always understand lacking space when everybody's having fun, but what instantly kills the mood is to not have enough space to dance when 40% of the dance floor are people who are standing still. all this while the backroom, a space seemingly designed to host conversation... is empty. we all know the space is small & intimate, but i do think there is room for everyone to enjoy themselves & be respectful of the music & eachothers' space.
maybe that room could benefit from a louder sound system & slightly dimmer lits for the shyer folks of the club?
we come to sans soleil to dance! let the people dance!
Best place we've been to in Montreal. Great bar & food then if you want, the venue turns into a club circa 11pm. 2nd visit & it's exactly what we were after for entertaining family post dinner. We went for 7.45 booking. Sat at the bar last time. Can't recommend enough.
Got a table at the bar last minute. Had the BEST bartender walk us through the food & sake. Shared stories of Japan. We asked for some teaching on how to eat traditionally. He was so genuine & took this experience beyond anything we have had in the past. The food & the vibe & the music (dj) was wonderful but his personality & time is something we will talk about for a long time. The club vibe after dinner was also really great. Music dancing food team 10 out of 10.
Booked the Sans Soleil bar for a 6:30 dinner to be able to enjoy the DJ that begins playing at 8pm. To clarify, their food menu is from Fleurs & cadeaux which was absolutely phenomenal - their sashimi selection is to die for as it is so fresh. They have this delicious 2yr aged soya sauce which is also provided for the sashimi. We also ordered the uni chips & dip, the marinated veggies & the peanut sauce udon. The service was generally pretty great but it took over 45 minutes for our last dish (we think the kitchen forgot our final dish which is why service was so slow in the end). All in all, would love to return again for this delightful supper club located below the eclectic pink restaurant! They also had a fun vending machine filled with beers & sakes which is meant to mimic all the fun vending machines japan is known for!
I had a great night at Sans Soleil. I recently read a review complaining about waiting a long time in the rain to get in. We shared a similar experience to that. They could definitely find a solution to covering the waiting area with an awning or an overhang. It was super nice that the bar is free to get in to, which is getting more rare in Montreal. the atmosphere was great, people were dancing & smiling. The DJ was great, he started off with some funk & transitioned into some groovy house, with some nice vinyl scratching. The sound system was very impressive, it was a Klipsch system that I would love to know more about. It sounded amazing, with one complaint of the horns being right at ear level, causing a lot treble being heard & a lack of bass. A simple change of eq or a new subwoofer would solve the problem. The bar was ok, the service was nothing special but the drinks were great. It was very messy though, lots of spilled drinks & dirty glasses everywhere. Overall I had a great night, & with a couple of small fixes, I think Sans Soleil could be at the top of vinyl clubs in Montreal.
This bar has 2 very different "expressions". The dinner service from 7 to 10 & the late-night techno club from 10 till late. I give 5 stars to both of them :). If you go for dinner, I suggest requesting one of the tables in the smaller room behind the ba

I took a trip from Toronto to mtl for a weekend in sept of 2023 & I was recommended to come here by a local & they did not disappoint. Great atmosphere, amazing music, vinyl record DJs !!! If you're not a fan of the jumpy sweaty loud clubs, this is the perfect spot!! The music was certainly the centre of attention. Unfortunately I wasn't able to try the food but the cocktails were great & priced very fair !! my friends & I had a great time & will definitely be coming back. Thank you to all the staff for a great experience!!
WOW!! Incredible food, service, ambiance, & vibe. One of the best dinners I've had in a while. The donburi, tuna, & duck were phenomenal & the cocktails delicious. Loved how the place transforms into a cozy dance club as the night progresses. Highly recommend for a special night out.
I haven't been to a club in a long time & I loved the music & vibes this much. I had a great time price wasn't crazy as far as drinks go it was on par. DJ was great & no flash photography!
