Review Summary

Rubis Rouge - Red Ruby Rouge serves classic Cantonese dim sum with cart service and generous portions at approachable prices, drawing praise for authentic flavors, variety, and a spacious, family friendly setting, but reviews also flag inconsistency in taste and timing, with some dishes described as fresh and tasty and others as bland or cold, and service ranging from warm and attentive to slow or curt. Language and billing issues appear in a few visits, and a few diners note a lack of clear menu information in English or French or confusion over substitutions. Overall it remains a go to option for affordable dim sum in Montreal's Chinatown, with several mentions of good value and tradition, while others suggest exploring alternatives for more consistent quality.

For $7 for lunch box takeouts, the food is tasty, filling, & very cheap. There is nothing to complaint about for the price. Will always come here as long as I am around.

It's a shame the service is really bad the food was excellent..., the attitude of the waiter was REALLY unacceptable, sigh of exasperation, no smile, in a hurry (for what? I don't know, only two table to serve ...) very impatient when we ask questions about the menu ... Throwing plate & cups when preparing other table ... Having to serve water for the kids was almost an insult to him ... First time in my entire life I had to endure this .... Fortunately at one point a waitress replaced him ... Don't know if I'll even take other chance.

Je viens de manger à ce restaurant & tout est bon ! Plus de 200 plats, hâte d'y refaire un tour, je recommande vivement d'y aller ! En plus, la quantité est énorme, de quoi manger pendant 3 jours 😁

Come to this place is all about food. I order BBQ pork Bento box for take out. It is only cost 7$. Seriously, I am wondering how they can make profit. The portion is huge ( especially the rice). I won't be too picky on the quality of the char Siu for this price. It is certainly decent. & it is better than any McDo. But ya, the ambient is very old & the service is soso

We were craving dim sum while in Montreal. This restaurant located on the 2nd floor inside a small mall. We were seated quickly & was asked what tea we wanted. Was nice to see push cart ordering here. We ordered five dishes to try. Overall the quality of the dim sum was average. We went on a Friday & it was not too busy so it could explain why some of the dim sum wasn't as fresh. The fried squid was cold & a bit rubbery. The har gow was decent.

Off the beaten path but totally worth it! Don't listen to the negative reviews. The food is so good, & highly recommend dim sum. Servers are not going to check on you like how you might be used to in our western culture, just raise your hand & get their attention & you'll be just fine! Only thing to watch out for is ordering too much food, it's so easy to do when you're hungry & portions here are really big!

We went for supper & there were parties that evening. We were seated outside the main area which wasn't a problem for us. The dishes were amazing with great'wok hey'! The problem was more when the party inside started & waiters for the not main area were scarce.

Went on a Sunday, usually the most busy day for dim sum. Waited 20 for pot of tea, food carts were very few & far between (I had to get up to look for food with the bill), & when I did finish a dish they were accumulating on my table cause there was no one to take them away. I even had to go get my own hot water to refill my tea pot. Also, if you don't believe in shrinkflation, it's hell of a real thing. All & I mean ALL the food is smaller, but prices are higher. & now they charge .50 for a takeaway box. If you're gonna go that far too Chinatown for Chinese food from the suburbs, might as well drive to the west island & go to imperial right off the 40. Red ruby has changed & not for the better.
