I've tried a lot of restaurants, but Reuben's Deli & Steakhouse is honestly on another level. The quality here is consistently outstanding, everything tastes incredibly fresh, & you can tell they don't cut corners.
What I love most is that it never disappoints. Every visit feels just as good as the first one, which is rare. I always tell myself I'll try something new, but the dishes I've already had are so good that I keep going back to them, which is kind of ironic, because I'm sure the rest of the menu is just as amazing.
If you're looking for a place where you can count on great food every single time, this is it.

You MUST sit down & enjoy the amazing flavours that Reuben's has to offer. We had the short rib Mac & cheese, sliders & Cajun jambalaya. Even if you are picky with beef, I promise you the best beef you have consumed. Truly a highlight of our trip!

Next up on my smoked meat tour was Reuben's. Not to be confused with the other restaurant with the same name (I've been told they are not affiliated), I decided to try the big bang sandwich, which was the biggest sandwich they had.
Overall on taste I'd say it was decent. I liked that the fries were more of the shoestring variety as opposed to the darker cut fries that a lot of the deli restaurants seem to be serving. Because there is so much meat, it made it kind of impossible to eat it as a sandwich, which is okay as I really just needed a big protein portion. For me the price was a little too steep for my liking compared to some of the other restaurants I had during my visit. The meal came out to close to $50 after tax (& that's for takeout).
I accidentally got on the train going the wrong direction tonight.
Ended up at Reuben's instead.
Ordered the smoked meat, medium fat.
Upgraded the fries to poutine & added smoked meat on top.
Pickles on the side.
The meat was warm, smoky, & generous without falling apart.
The gravy soaked into the fries just enough.
The pickle wasn't a side dish, it was the reset button.
What impressed me most was the service.
No interruptions. No forced check-ins.
Napkins appeared exactly when needed.
It felt less like dinner & more like a small, well-timed gift from the city.
10/10 would happily get on the wrong train again.

J'ai poursuivi ma quête du meilleur smoked meat à Montréal. Je vais malheureusement devoir faire des comparaisons avec ce que je connais déjà.
Le prix est assez élevé pour le produit. Cela dit, je comprends tout à fait l'aspect d'être situé en plein centre-ville. J'ai aimé que l'assiette soit servie avec les accompagnements; pour 29 $, c'est une énorme portion qui m'a bien rassasié.
J'ai moins aimé la salade de chou, qui est davantage vinaigrée que crémeuse, même chose pour le cornichon. Maintenant, si je compare avec d'autres endroits, la prise en main du sandwich était moins agréable. C'était le genre de bouchée qui se défait facilement, ce qui affectait aussi l'uniformité & la proportion des bouchées, qui variaient selon l'endroit du sandwich.
Mes commentaires peuvent sembler durs, mais ils reflètent simplement mes goûts personnels. Je crois aussi avoir un parti pris pour Schwartz. Cela dit, ça n'enlève rien à Reuben's, qui mérite tout de même une excellente note.
Great food. Great service. Great vibe. 3 of us. We all enjoyed our meals. Went there prior to a hockey game. Very friendly spot. Definitely would recommend a reservation. I booked 5 days ahead & had to take earlier than I wanted. Ordered roast beef melt, original Reuben & steak sandwich.
Reuben's Restaurant & Delicatessen & Steakhouse in Montreal is an absolute must-visit. They serve some of the best smoked meat in Canada-tender, flavorful, perfectly seasoned, & piled high just the way it should be. Every bite truly reflects Montreal's legendary smoked meat tradition.
Beyond the main dishes, the variety of desserts is outstanding. From classic favorites to indulgent treats, there's something for everyone, & they're the perfect way to end a fantastic meal.
The service made the experience even better. Gustavo & Andres were excellent servers-friendly, attentive, & genuinely professional. They made us feel welcome from start to finish & ensured everything was perfect.

I visited Reuben with high expectations given its reputation in Montreal, but I left feeling thoroughly disappointed. Despite all the fame, the food was remarkably average.
The sandwiches were'middle of the road' at best-nothing you couldn't get at a standard diner. However, the prices certainly didn't reflect that mediocrity; it's significantly overpriced for what you actually get. It feels like you are paying for the name & the central location rather than the quality of the ingredients.
If you're looking for an authentic Montreal smoked meat experience with actual value for your money, there're much better options in the city. Great fame, but very'just okay' quality 🙁
My go-to spot when I have a birthday party for a family member or a last minute gathering. Honestly their food is so good & you can't go wrong, their staff is also super friendly. I always get the nicest service & you can tell they care about their customers. Have been & always will be a returning customer!

Went back to Reuben's with a group for my sister's birthday & honestly, we had such a good time. The food was amazing again, everything was cooked perfectly. & I have to mention the strawberry cheesecake… it's honestly addictive, & they make it fresh every day (thanks to my server Kim for the tip).
Speaking of which, the service was exceptional. Kim was so attentive & made the whole experience even better.
Overall, this place never disappoints. Highly recommend!
We've been to Reuben's several times along the years & it has always been good. The food is delicious & the portions are satisfying. The atmosphere is cool & the staff are nice. Also, be careful not to confuse this restaurant with the other one sharing a similar name. This one is the best!
We were looking for a good place to have Montreal smoke meat sandwich. This place seems to be the best around downtown. The inside is quite a bit nicer than other options.
Service was excellent. Drinks were good. I ordered the classic Reuben, but added the coleslaw. This was the best sandwich ever! The pumpernickel bread, meat, melted cheese & sauerkraut was perfect combination. The coleslaw was well worth the add on. One of the best coleslaw I've had - more on the vinegary side. Highly recommend this place if you are looking for a Montreal smoke meat sandwich!
