We had the short rib Mac & cheese, sliders & Cajun jambalaya. Even if you are picky with beef, I promise you the best beef you have consumed. Truly a highlight of our trip!
A lovely place for a delicious & relaxing meal. friendly & welcoming atmosphere with exceptional service. The cheesecake! Oh you must try one of the cheesecakes!
Cute diner vibe! Mac & cheese was the best dish we had. Ribs & chicken sandwich was not bad either. Service was great!
Tremendous portions, solid taste. Mac & Cheese was really good, & the rib was tender. Atmosphere was a nice vibe as well. Only criticism I'd have is that the fries could've been seasoned better & should be crispier.
Stopped in here for lunch. Super friendly welcome at the door & the waiter was also really friendly & helpful with recommendations. The food was absolutely delicious. We both had the traditional sandwich - 1 super, 1 Charlie & their homemade cheesecake after. All were amazing. Absolutely recommend this place. Pricing is pretty good value, especially considering where it is located.
My go-to spot when I have a birthday party for a family member or a last minute gathering. Honestly their food is so good & you can't go wrong, their staff is also super friendly. I always get the nicest service & you can tell they care about their customers. Have been & always will be a returning customer!
UPDATE: (02/12/25)
Went back to Reuben's with a group for my sister's birthday & honestly, we had such a good time. The food was amazing again, everything was cooked perfectly. & I have to mention the strawberry cheesecake… it's honestly addictive, & they make it fresh every day (thanks to my server Kim for the tip).
Speaking of which, the service was exceptional. Kim was so attentive & made the whole experience even better.
Overall, this place never disappoints. Highly recommend!
A Montreal staple, & never disappoints. The food was delicious. Friendly staff. We spoke English & there was no problem with that accommodating. Our server was friendly & attentive the whole time. Only drawback we found was we ordered Caesars as our drink not realizing they were $18 each which wasn't quite worth it. But the rest of the meal made up for it, especially the cheesecake
We were looking for a good place to have Montreal smoke meat sandwich. This place seems to be the best around downtown. The inside is quite a bit nicer than other options.
Service was excellent. Drinks were good. I ordered the classic Reuben, but added the coleslaw. This was the best sandwich ever! The pumpernickel bread, meat, melted cheese & sauerkraut was perfect combination. The coleslaw was well worth the add on. One of the best coleslaw I've had - more on the vinegary side. Highly recommend this place if you are looking for a Montreal smoke meat sandwich!
The desserts looked amazing but we were too full.
We loved our experience at Rueben's. I had the OG grilled cheese & my wife went with the rueben; both were stacked with smoked meats & unbelievably delicious. Even better was the strawberry cheesecake for dessert, which is made in-house.
The turkey melt was to die for. The fries were great. The strawbery cheese cake was heaven
Food was pretty good. The chop chop poutine was good. The short rib grilled cheese was awesome. Steak salad was tasty
I went to Reuben's for dinner take out & was very pleased. Although I didn't stay in the restaurant to eat, the atmosphere was wonderful. The service I received was excellent. The hostess that attended to me answered all my questions & made very good recommendations. The food was delicious. I had the Reuben sandwich, steak cut oinion rings & a in house made strawberry cheesecake for dessert. All of them were delicious. I highly recommend Reuben for anyone in the area.
This by far was one of the best experiences I ever had at a restaurant. The staff were well groomed (& attractive I might add haha), extremely helpful for taking on 8 people as walk-ins (it was quite busy on a rainy weekend) & the food was amazing! I had the'76 & carrot cheesecake 🤤
I also like that it is a family friendly place 😀
Visited this famous Montreal smoked meat spot & overall, it lived up to its reputation! The smoked meat was definitely the highlight - tender, flavorful, & perfectly seasoned. It had that classic, satisfying bite you hope for in a Montreal deli.
I also really enjoyed the French onion soup - rich, savory broth with just the right amount of melted cheese & soft onions. A comforting start to the meal.
The only letdown was the rib cheese macaroni. It sounded promising but ended up being a bit bland & heavy. The texture wasn't quite right, & it just didn't have the same quality as the other dishes.
Still, the core experience - the smoked meat & the soup - was solid. Worth a visit if you're in town & craving a taste of classic Montreal comfort food.
Amazing smoked meat mac & cheese! I wish I did not have breakfast as I was too full to eat lunch & so many great options to choose from!
Had I written a review before today, it would have been 5 stars in every category. I have been there 3 times in the past year. The first time, the food was great as was the service at the counter. I went there on Tuesday, April 8th, 2025, at 6:30 pm, just before the Montreal Canadiens' very important hockey game (which they won; 6 games in a row). The atmosphere was magical! I sat at a tiny booth & looked out at the snow softly falling. I don't like the snow & winter, especially not in April, but the Alamo Burger I was enjoying was so amazing, I wanted to write a poem about the experience. I wanted it to go one & on. Each bite of the burger tasted better than the last. I loved the music too. It was from a Spotify Spies Jazz playlist, the server informed me, who was as nice as could be. I could only eat 1/3, & that was too much. I asked for a box to take the rest home & realized that it would have been better for me to ask to be served only half at the table & given the other half in a box when I leave. Many of us were brought up to clean our plates & I ate too much. Having the delicious food in front of us is too tempting to continue eating when you've had enough. I got sick later that night at home because I hadn't eaten very much in 3.5 months. I had told the smiling manager that the food was amazing & the service was even better. I went back today, Saturday, April 12th, because I had some business next door & I would have loved just a two bites of an Alamo burger, No snow, this time, just a faint hardly noticeable drizzle. No excitement in the air. No magic, no great music, no smiling male manager. However the girl who greeted me was sweet. I asked the waiter if it would be possible for someone in the kitchen to cut the hamburger in half & box it, serve me half & let me take home the rest when I leave. He said''We can't do it. It's policy & it won't look good on the plate.'' I'm thinking, :they must have good knives for this in the kitchen.' He said,''You can eat what you want & wrap up the rest to take home with you.'' I told him I didn't want to; it was too much food to eat. Another person came at me, like a policeman, in an angry tone.''It's not unreasonable to ask you to wrap up the rest yourself'' I politely said it was unreasonable; I just wanted two bites.''''We don't do that here.'' The way he spoke, in my face was angry & aggressive, not at all good customer service. His tone injured me. I have been a waitress for many years in high class restaurants & hotels. I always loved to accommodate clients' request, with a smile. If a customer asked me that, I would have found a way to satisfy their request because I love to spoil people & make them happy. If they wanted tea with thin full slices of lemon to fill the cup instead of wedges, I cut up thin slices. I could have asked to have it to take out, but I was made to feel very unwelcome & needed to get out of there. I left, feeling as if he threw me out. There was an elderly man sitting on the sidewalk in the rain a few feet away. He looked tired & sad. I went to Five Guys around the corner & bought a cheeseburger & fries which was probably not anywhere nearly as good as the $26 burger from Reuben's, & filled the bag with some salted peanuts in the shell they had to help yourself to, while waiting in line, & brought it all to the gentleman, with lots of napkins. He was still sitting in the rain. I didn't need to eat a hamburger & be treated as a persona non-grata, trying hard to get the disrespect out of my mind. The gentleman needed the hamburger & respect. I gave it to him & went home feeling satisfied after all.
Possibly the best meal I've ever had. I had the striploin (12 oz) & my wife had the Reuben Club with poutine. The gravy on the poutine was unique & amazing. The steak was to die for, each bite delicious & perfection. We hardly ever get dessert but opted for the strawberry cheesecake & the carrot caramel cheesecake. Service was fantastic & the atmosphere casual but with purpose & intent.
