Where ramen and miso meets
Ever since Japan’s Edo period (1600 to 1867 AC), Miso has been known as a healthy and tasty
condiment and has been beloved for generations.
Miso is made with soybeans, rice (or barley in some cases) and salt by being fermented for a certain
period of time. It originated in China, spread to Japan in the 9th century and became known as Miso paste. In the long history of Japan, Miso has been a sufficient protein source, to enhance rice, soup or as a sauce over vegetable side dishes.
As a fermented food, miso is a great source of probiotics or beneficial bacteria, which increases the
health of your gut and enhances your immune system. Miso is also high in protein, in minerals like
manganese and zinc, and vitamin E, vitamin K, various B vitamins, and folic acid.

However, the price/quantity ratio isn't that good compared to other fancy or classy Japanese restraunt like Kinka & Otto. But they have something unique that the others don't have: actual large chunk of Cha-Shu. Their Cha-Shu is actually one of the best I have ever tasted. I especially loved the Cha-Shu Don. The Cha-Shu was so juicy & delicious on top of a bole of well-done rice! Really enjoyed it. Will come back next time for the Cha-Shu. Other than that, the Ramen & the Karaage we ordered was OK, not impressive overall but not bad either. Cha-Shu was sooooo good though!View more
Food was delicious, restaurant itself is small & comfortable, but I'm still on the hunt for a Ramen shop that actually plays Japanese music..View more
If you looking for real Japanese food. THIS IS NOT THE PLACE. It’s more like Chinese style Japanese ramen. The Chashu is quite dry. Won’t be here for second timeView more
I was told by a friend that Misoya was the best ramen shop in Montreal...but all I found was disappointment.
First of all, I want to get it's best positive out of the way immediately. The service was great, the lady was courteous, attentive & very friendly.
Now that's out of the way the not so good points... the ramen.. noodles were acceptable, the toppings were mediocre at best..but the broth was too salty...I had the Silver Spicy Shoyu, while my girlfriend had the Golden Tokatsu. Both broths were very salty... but she had over five full cups of water throughout the dinner..
Also a huge negative here was the music blaring from the speakers..also for a Japanese restaurant, the musical playlist was very weird...from anime theme songs, to j-pop, to j-grunge, to metal..All blaring non stop...made it a bit too hard to get a conversation going. Also the decor was very...bland...& un-japanesque...
So yeah...is Misoya the BEST Ramen restaurant our city has to offer?
My personal opinion it would be no, but maybe you'd like it?

Very bad experience at 5th time going there. Clearly understaffed & service priority & staff training were found to be very poor. Went with 3 friends & I was served last after 3-4 other tables filled after us were served first & my friends were almost die with their ramens. Neither explanation nor apologies I received for such a big delay. I lost appetite by the time I got my order but ending up paying for it. As a Japanese, I don't expect the same level of service as if being Japan but the level of service was totally deteriorated there & will never go there again.
Tied for best ramen in Montreal for me. Delicious broth, tasty ramen, some kind of tempura tofu & some other non-identifiable but super-delicious toppings floating around. The staff is 100% Japanese & the service is what you would get in Japan. 13$ tax & tip included for lunch. Great! We'll definitely go back & often! (2013)
Wow, how things have changed in 2018. Quality went down & prices went up. 21$ for ok ramen. Not going back.
authentic Japanese ramen!
Tiny place
friendly service
great food
low price
The only authentic Japanese ramen in Montreal. I think that says enough. Always good on cold, rainy days or any day.
