Review Summary

Poincaré Chinatown comes across as a lively, welcoming bar with a warm, energetic atmosphere and a thoughtful blend of modern and neighborhood-inspired decor that makes the space feel both refined and inviting. The beer program stands out, with a strong sequence of Kölsch on tap and a rotating craft selection that many guests find exciting, although a few pours have been criticized for excessive foam. The terrace is repeatedly described as charming and among the best in the area, a great spot for groups or a relaxed evening, especially when the weather cooperates. The food experience is varied: some fermented and house-made dishes delight with creativity and fermentation focus, while others find portions small for the price and some dishes uneven in balance or not up to expectations for a dine-in meal. Service is generally friendly and efficient on drinks and at the bar, but can be inconsistent at table service, and a few visits note missteps such as allergy concerns or slower attention during busy times. Overall, Poincaré Chinatown offers a compelling destination for drinks and a convivial vibe, with charm added by its Chinatown location, though dining may not consistently meet every guest’s expectations.

The atmosphere & service were spectacular. However, the food was not balanced in its flavours or textures. The Caesar salad was overdressed, kimchi was sour not spicy & the devilled eggs tasted of mayonnaise not eggs. Everything for my taste lacked salt & pepper but there was none on the table. I will give them that the sourdough was delicious. Excellent wine selection. I would come back for drinks but not dinner. I left disappointed, I love fermented food but I did not love this restaurant…

Amazing food & excellent beer. The Kolsch is something to experience. Lots of interesting fermented food the fries are very unique & tasty.

Such a waste of a cool space! All the food is fermented & tastes like vinegar, & the cocktails are equally disappointing. The only positive point is the atmosphere & the location.

Cute spot for cocktails & snacking in Chinatown. The staff is quite friendly, food service is quick. The fermented gailan is good, despite being incredibly salty.

Cute place with great service! Everyone was very welcoming & super nice! The fermented fries were a bit too tangy for my taste however the chicken skewers & the kefir lime salad was delicious! Beer was great & the summer cocktail was very good too!

If you like pickled or fermented foods, Poincaré is the place for you! They have so many delicious foods to try. I particularly like the fermented fries. The tangyness perfectly balances the fried potatoes. Their wine selection is also very good. The Maher wines are very flavorful, & if you visit, you should give them a try!

The server asked us what we wanted & then neglected us for 30 minutes after we decided. There was some miscommunication, & they brought us a dessert we didn't order, & then didn't take it off the bill. It might've been too busy for the number of servers. The fermented fries were not very good, over cooked, & the sourness did not add to fries. Pork was decent. Wine was decent. More concept than follow through. Nice place to sit, albeit loud. Vegetable options are a complete afterthought.

Went there for dinner. Their wine selection was nice but their food was meh. The Charcuterie platter & the fermented vegetable platter looked like something a 20 year old would have served in their bachelor pad. We went & got sushi after leaving this place.

Service was great though I wish they better marked vegan options. Service was very friendly & quick. Great delicious variety of cocktails, & lots of funky fermented food! Fun place to hangout after work with friends or coworkers, though I really wish the music was a bit lower, it was kinda hard to have a conversation. (I never understand why places like this crank it up so high, don't people come here to talk?)
