Uber... I'm very disappointed. The only dish that was good was the pork knuckle. Everything else was terrible.
Spring rolls burnt.... Fried Rice way too starchy... Pineapple, chicken unrecognizable inadequal breading, totally soaked... Beef & vegetables also not good... beef is either poor quality or they don't velvet their beef before they cook it.
Shrimp sezchuan inedible... consistency like mashed potatoes.
I would not recommend this restaurant unless all you order is the pork knuckle.
The food at Xiang Mama in Montreal was really good; the two of us finished all four dishes, especially the sweet & sour pork. As someone from Northeast China, it was truly wonderful to try, it tasted just like home.
Went with a non Chinese friend. We didn't order spicy dishes cause my friend cannot have spicy food. Overall the food was okay. Both the beef & pork had too much potato starch. It didn't meet my expectations (heard from friends that it was really good) tho. However my friend loved the dishes. One potential reason could be we didn't order the classic spicy dishes that I'd like. I'd go with my Chinese friends to order more classic dishes to see how I like the restaurant. Giving it a ⭐⭐⭐⭐ considering that the dishes we ordered weren't really those I'd like, which might have impacted how I liked the food. If I can give a half rating, I might do 3.5 :)
Giving ⭐⭐⭐⭐ rating to Service cause the cashier explained that they couldn't do % for tips anymore due to the new law, & suggested that I could change the number I'd like, which made me feel like I should give more, despite that fact the lowest default tip was already about 18%. But.. I might have misinterpreted..
On adore le général tao, le padthai & le chou de Shanghai, mais franchement tout est excellent! Le pork belly est à essayer aussi❤️ les portions sont généreuses, il en reste toujours pour le lendemain!
Been multiple times, great food everytime & service is fast. Try the pork belly, General tao & dumplings!
Love it, authentic Chinese food! My Taiwanese husband brought me here , amazing food ,a lot of dishes you can't find at other Chinese restaurants.love it ,tx for not americanizing & leaving it as it should be ,tried the pork belly with quail eggs, dumplings, eggplant dish, fried rice.
Excellent food - more in the savoury side of things. We ordered pork belly with egg & pad Thai. The pad Thai was not super sweet which we liked, & not spicy. I had the hot & sour soup, nice & rich. Three in our party, still had a bit of leftovers (good sized portions)
Not sure how I missed this place before, it's been there for 11 years but I'm sure glad I found it now. A delicious Chinese restaurant outside of Chinatown, yay!
BTW, their website food photos are not all accurate so don't rely on them.
I ordered 3 things: Cantonese chow mien, pork belly dish, green beans with ground pork & all of them were delicious & I highly recommend. I can't speak for all the other dishes but those were certainly amazing & good quality. All the ingredients were a little above & beyond, you could tell.
The Cantonese Chow mien for example used a slightly different noodle than I'm used but it was still so good & the veggies & meat were a good quantity & quality. They used little chunks of thicken thighs for example, tender & marinated instead of thin dry chicken breasts in other places I've been to. It also had shrimp, chicken, beef! All 3!
1000% recommend & will be coming back. The in house dining set up looked quite nice as well, not super fancy but definitely beyond a cheap in & out place so you could come with friends & family to have a nice dinner there & it's BYOB!
