I didn't know what to expect having never had Ethipian food but boy was I surprised, it was an amazing experience, staff was great & the food even better.
Great restaurant to discover Ethiopian food through their discovery menu in a more formal setting. The waiter took in our spice tolerance levels into account & subbed the spicier items on the menu (berbere chicken) with a less spicy protein option. It was very tolerable, & so he welcomed us to come back & try the chicken versions next time.
They have a vegetarian friendly menu & the waiter explains everything that's on our plates, from a meat tartare, lamb stews, sautéed beef, salads & lentils/pea options. All served on a platters with traditional sourgum'crepe'. Enjoy the meal eating eith your hands, or ask for utensils if that's what you prefer. The shared meal was very filling.
Dessert options were more'western' & rich: chocolate-passion fruit mousse cake, chocolate & pecan cake, lemon & matcha tart or a coconut & white chocolate square.

Je viens depuis 19 ans à Montréal - j'ai pris mes habitudes sur le Plateau, sur Saint Denis & cette année j'ai découvert le NIL BLEU - une restauration excellente - une de mes trois préférées de Montréal - en plus de la restauration, le lieu pour y séjourner est parfait - les suites sont parfaites pour un déplacement professionnel. merci
On mange bien, le service est très bien aussi. C'est très bruyant. Je conseille à ceux qui souhaitent un peu plus de calme d'opter pour une table au sous-sol.
Nous avons bien mangé & l'ambiance était intime & agréable. J'avais demandé une table romantique & nous avons été très satisfaits d'avoir été placé dans la salle du bas moins bruyante. Des commentaires constructifs pour la nourriture: peut être proposer un niveau d'épice au choix pour les mets. Nous sommes venus plusieurs fois, mais cette fois-ci ma conjointe à vraiment eu de la misère avec les mets qu'elle trouvait trop relevés. C'était tout de même très bon. Les mocktails sont bien réalisés, le nil bleu est excellent. Ca vaudrait la peine d'offrir de la bière sans alcool. Merci. Nous reviendrons.

J'ai été agréablement surpris de mon expérience culinaire, excellent service & cuisine avec des produits de qualité. Sans oublier les cocktails maison !
We went to the restaurant the other night & stayed at the hotel. It was an excellent stay & great location! The people were extremely nice. Also, great coffee!
Je n'étais pas allée à ce resto depuis moults années & j'en gardais un bon souvenir, cette fois-ci mon impression est différente. D'abord un resto Éthiopien où aucun éthiopiens ne travaillent …. Décevant. Nous étions deux & nous avons commandé une sangria bleue , beaucoup trop sucrée , aucun rapport avec la sangria traditionnelle; mais le pire c'est qu'ils l'ont apporté en même temps que l'entrée … Ensuite parlons de l'entrée. Nous avons pris le menu découverte , l'entrée était minuscule tellement qu'on se demandait ce qu'elle aurait eu l'air si elle avait été pour une seule personne . Ensuite le repas: très cher payé pour la version végan. Ridicule, voir insultant, de payer le même prix que la version carnivore pour des purées de lentilles & de légumes même si tout est savoureux. Le prix pourrait être ajusté !!! Pour finir on a pas pris de vin, le prix des bouteilles & du vin au verre est exorbitant…. Il y a des limites à faire rire de soi! À noter on vous mettra de la pression pour quitter après 2hrs pile. C'est vraiment plate de se sentir pressées !
En somme, je n'y retournerai pas. 🤷🏻?♀?
Unfortunately the drinking water smelled & tasted a lot like chlorine (was obliged to buy a 10$ water bottle, which I usually don't do) & the beer was very warm.
The rest was delicious.
Rarely a restaurant will fill 5 stars out of five on all levels. Le Nil Bleu is one of this 5 stars. Despite the 30 years restaurant's lifelong, i didn't know about it. A small place beside a small hotel. PROS: 1. The decor is luxurious, upper & lower level, even the corridor to the bathroom & the bathroom itself are nicely decorated
2. Spotless clean everywhere; before the meal, we were handed white warm towels on a plate to clean our hands
3. I took the tasting dish, so small quantities to taste a bit of everything. It was delicious, flavourful, i couldn't finish the second plate, i was full.
4. The waiters are bilingual, very respectfull, they explain every dish.
