An incredible experience at Nil Bleu Ethiopian Restaurant!
It's been years since I've had Ethiopian food this good outside of home & Nil Bleu truly exceeded every expectation. The presentation was elegant, the flavors were absolutely authentic & delicious, & the ambiance was warm, beautiful, & spotless. Every detail, from the service to the aroma of the dishes, made the experience unforgettable. I left with a happy heart & a full stomach. I can't wait to go back & thank you Nil Bleu
Nil Bleu has been our favorite restaurant for many years. Yet each time we go, we are supervised again by how tasty the food is. The menu has excellent choices for everyone -- for meat eaters (the lamb is great) & vegans (the lentils & the spinach dishes are fantastic).
What a wonderful experience for us... so interesting to eat such exotic foods & spices. We sampled many dishes & everyone was pleased. The service was also top notch.
highly recommend the sharing plate which had loads to choose from. Every dish was flavourful & complementary. Do not skip out on the veggie plates because they are just as delicious as the meat ones. The main dishes were flawless. You could skip on the appetizers & cocktails. The decor & ambiance were lovely & service was good.
First time trying Ethiopian food & it was great first experience. The food was fresh & tasty while also not being too heavy.
Will be come back again to enjoy more Ethiopian dishes.
A Regal Taste of East Africa in the Heart of Montreal
Tucked away in the lively heart of Montreal, Nile Bleu offers a transportive dining experience that blends the deep culinary traditions of East Africa with a modern, upscale twist. From the moment you enter, it's clear that this is not just a meal, it's a journey.
The décor is a striking blend of sophistication & cultural homage. Zebra-patterned chairs, plush seating, & warm red & amber lighting create an atmosphere that feels both intimate & theatrical. Giraffe sculptures & Afrocentric art add character without veering into kitsch. The space is thoughtfully designed equal parts lounge & fine dining ideal for couples, small groups, or celebratory.
Cocktails at Nile Bleu are as visually impressive as they are flavorful. The Golden Day, a citrus-forward, floral cocktail, is balanced & refreshing, while the Mango drink delivers a tropical sweetness that pairs well with spicier dishes. Garnishes like hibiscus petals & heart-topped skewers show the kitchen's attention to detail. At around $15 per drink, they lean pricey, but match the restaurant's elevated tone.
The appetizer board is a chef's canvas injera rolls, vibrant beet salad, sautéed mushrooms & eggplants, & a fresh salsa, all plated around a carved vegetable flower. The dish is as much about artistry as it is about flavor, with textures & spices carefully layered. The injera is perfectly tangy, & every element tastes distinct yet harmonious.
The shared injera platter is the soul of the Nile Bleu experience. Served on a massive round tray, the dish features a variety of traditional stews: spiced lentils, lamb & beef tibs, chicken with hard-boiled egg in berbere sauce, curried vegetables, & more. Each bite is complex & deeply satisfying, with well-developed spice profiles & slow-cooked tenderness. The injera, used to scoop up the dishes, adds the essential sour note that binds the meal together. At $65 for two, the portion is generous, the variety impressive, & the flavor unforgettable.
Desserts at Nile Bleu offer a refined close to the meal. The raspberry mousse is glossy & smooth, with just the right amount of tartness to cut through the richness. The pecan chocolate cake is dense, nutty, & indulgent without being overwhelming. Each dessert is plated with precision & care, served on zebra-print china that feels playfully luxurious.
Staff are attentive, warm, & knowledgeable about the menu. Courses are well-paced, & the atmosphere remains relaxed even as the restaurant fills. The experience feels curated but never stiff.
Nile Bleu stands out as one of Montreal's more unique fine dining spots, offering not just a meal but a beautifully choreographed cultural experience. The food is soulful & elevated, the setting is stylish & immersive, & the attention to detail from plating to service is clear throughout. Whether you're new to East African cuisine or a lifelong fan, Nile Bleu is a destination to rejoice.
The diversity of options in the Montreal food scene is incredible. Do not overlook this wonderful Ethiopian restaurant near Square Saint-Louis. Many incredible options that are all organic & delicious. So many vegan options that do not feel like side dishes or h'ors d'oevres. Service was attentive. Atmosphere was spot on. Try this African cuisine gem.
Delicious Ethiopian dishes with modern style & fantastic service, also I recommend the Soleil mocktail drink.
I love Ethiopian food for their vegan dishes! The vegan tasting menu consist of:
a platter with 4 small appetizers
Bouticha: chick pea mousse
Yetiamtim salad: tomato salad (tangy & refreshing)
House salad: caramelized veggies (warm & sweet)
Yeberdjane: marinated eggplants (cold)
& 5 flavours served over Injera
Yekik Alicha: turmeric split peas
Zucchini Sire: zucchini & beets
Yatakelt Watt: carrots, potatoes & cabbage
Yemesser Watt: berbere lentils (spicy)
Gommen: spinach, onion & garlic
The stewed vegetables seasoned with spices are all delicious. For those who want gluten-free, they have rice or quinoa for substitution.
Ethiopian Sun is a mix of mango, orange, pineapple & peach juice.
It's a generous size dish. They also have vegan dessert but I was full. :P
Interesting experience! You receive small portions of food on a big crepe that you use to grab the vegetables & meat. The menu is filled with diverse tasty Ethiopian dishes. (the prices are pretty high though) The waiters were very kind & the restaurant is clean & nicely decorated. Would absolutely recommend the Doro Watt, chicken with berbéré sauce.
They have amazing food & have excellent customer service I definitely recommend. I have been to many Ethiopian restaurants & this is definitely my favorite so far I'm not vegan but even their vegan dishes are very good.
so fancy! & the sharing platter gives a great summary of their best dishes without being too much or too little
Pretty tasty Ethiopian food. I actually liked the vegetarian dishes more than the non vegetarian ones. Both kinds were good though :)
We ordered online via doordash & were beyond impressed. We had the ten item vegan meal & the food was superb. I have had Éthiopien food in Manhattan, Boston, Toronto & other major cities & they do not compare. The flavour in the dishes is exceptional & the ingredients are so fresh. I cannot wait to visit in person.
Food is great & very tasty but some portions are a bit weird. We ordered the taste menu for 3 people & some of the dishes could barely be split equally between 3 person so everybody could have a proper tasting of everything. Some drinks are served in a tiny, talk glass full of ice. On a 4$ Coca-Cola? Come on... Service was outstanding.
I loved it Wow woww You have to try Ethiopian food, you will never regret it. All the different dishes I ordered I ate & loved them (some dishes were hot, I like to eat hot food) Next time I will try different side dishes. The staff is friendly, the place cozy & the bathroom is exactly like a 5-star hotel bathrooms I highly recommend this place to anyone visiting or living in Montreal who wants to try something different! It was the first time I had eaten Ethiopian food, the best Ethiopian food ever will return again Five out of five. Well done! I read the reviews & people complaint that the service is slow ,it was quick for me & I am satisfied.
Really nice looking restaurant. Food was good but I would say it's Ethiopian food modified for the western taste. Dishes lacked the traditional berbere spice kick that is normal. Still it was good & the service was great.
Shrinkflation alert! We used to be regulars here, & returned after a couple of years. The portions were a lot smaller than before, especially the appetizers. I think this trend might be especially apparent in the dégustation offers, so maybe you're better off order individual dishes.
My family tries to eat Ethiopian food in every city that we visit, & I can honestly say that Le Nil Bleu was the best we've ever had. The flavors were incredible, & each one of the dishes in the vegetarian combination was exquisite. The atmosphere was wonderful, the staff was lovely, & we give it our very highest recommendation!
Friendly service, nice ambiance & delicious vegan options. I have been several times & usually get the vegan tasting menu, it has 5 different dishes & lots of Ethiopian bread.
