We went as a big group, around 18 people. The food was excellent! My favorite dish were the Brussels sprouts. The roast chicken itself was amazing but I'm not a huge fan of mushrooms so the sauce provided wasn't my jam but still good! I also really liked the ribs. The dessert course slightly disappointed me, I was expecting more of a pouding chômeur type dessert but I liked the variety offered & they were still good (various donuts, cookie & brownies) Overall it was worth the money.
The location itself is well decorated & very spacious. It's an amazing place for a large group.
Unfortunately I only have pictures of the appetizers
Ohhh man I love the food here. Big sharing plates of ribs & chicken. The brussel sprouts are amazing as is the cauliflower. A not so new anymore, Montreal classic. God bless these amazing folk who run it!
Their brussel sprouts dish is the absolute best; it's a must try. I also love their pasta & rotisserie chicken. The sauce on the rotisserie chicken is just perfect.
However, I am not a big fan of their ribs: the flavors were a bit underwhelming.
We had the chicken, schnitzel, a side salad & roasted potatoes. The potatoes were golden & lathered in olive oil which was wonderful. The salad was fresh & the schnitzel crispy with a tangy sauce. The chicken was juicy but the gravy was way too salty for my liking.
The key lime pie we ordered for dessert however was a perfect way to finish the meal & made up for the extra salt with the chicken.
Always a good place to share a meal. Their chicken & the sauce that goes with it are delicious, it was the best thing we ate.
The place is spacious so you don't feel too close to others, very nice atmosphere.
Service was impeccable.
Absolutely loved our experience here. We came as a group & enjoyed the family style menu, & tried a bunch of their dishes. I loved the Brussel sprouts, the rigatoni & the chicken with gravy the most! Can't wait to go again in the future.
I didn't know tomato could be savoured until my diner at McKiernan. Wow! I loved the tomato & burrata starter. The bread, the chicken, the cheesecake dessert, everything was top notch. The place is baby friendly & the staff was very thoughtful.
I really love this spot for dinner. It's got this great, bustling energy without being too loud, making it perfect for a date night. You should definitely try to make a reservation ahead of time if you can.
At first glance, the menu can look a little all over the place, but once the food starts coming out it all makes sense. The roasted chicken is absolutely fantastic, chicken is cooked perfectly & the sauce is so good. The pasta dishes are also a great option with good portion sizes.
For sides, do yourself a favor & get the deviled brussel sprouts. They are seriously delicious & awesome for sharing. You might want to skip the fries, though. They can be a little hit or miss, sometimes coming out a bit overcooked & dry.
A quick tip for dessert: if you're eyeing the donuts, ask your server to set some aside when you first order your meal. They sell out super fast!
A Few Thoughts on Brunch:
I'm probably in the minority here, but the famous brunch double down just isn't for me. I don't get the hype. The hash browns feel both dry & oily at the same time, almost like they were pre-made & then just flash-fried to order. It's not a dealbreaker, but I'd recommend trying something else instead.
As for the service, it was only a mixed bag the last time I went. The hosts at the front were incredible-super helpful & welcoming. But our waitress seemed a little checked out. We all have off days, but it was weird to see her totally happy & chill with other tables but just meh/cold with us. She did perk up when I went to pay with cash, which I found kind of strange.
Overall, I'd still highly recommend this place for a great dinner out.
Update: went back recently, food & service was top notch, 5 stars all around.
The chicken breast sauce was good, the chicken itself was a bit dry honestly.
the'12$' cucumbers with barely any feta in it was very disappointing , I was expecting a salad or something unique/creative. It was literally just cucumbers with a bit of shredded feta…
Food was on point. I'm not easily won over by chicken but this was by far the best rotisserie I've ever had. Space is beautiful & homey, & that stems to the food - just the right amount of'fuss' imo. Will come back any time I'm in Montreal.
Brunch options pretty limited
A few pork options, not much beef or chicken option
Salads are very nice
Drink menu is very good & wine collection is pretty decent.
Delicious, affordable, & healthy are an impossible trinity. No matter what you choose, you can only satisfy two of these criteria. But this restaurant defies that rule. I loves the large arched windows. The sunset creates a European-style romance.
The schnitzel is fantastic, thinly fried & crispy. Served with lemon slices & a chopped chili & olive ,it's a savory & flavorful dish that cuts through the greasiness. It brings back memories of my time in Austria.
The Alexander's roast chicken is also a standout.
There's ample parking outside the restaurant, which is absolutely convenient.
Great location & space. Chicken (4), Ribs (4), Trout (3), Linguine (2). Trout & Linguine very salty. For the quality, probably not worth the price. Asked to have the leftover sides remainder of the ribs to boxed for take out. Somehow only 1 rib made it in the box? Food service is also quite long.
Hidden in an industrial area near the Lachine Canal, McKiernan is a true hidden gem by the team behind Joe Beef.
Don't be fooled by the low-key entrance - inside is a warm, plant-filled space with beautiful natural light & high ceilings. Perfect for brunch, solo time, or a relaxed hangout with friends.
Today's special was a perfectly cooked medium-rare beef with fresh greens - incredibly tender & flavorful. The crispy Brussels sprouts were addictive, like snack food. The rigatoni was rich & satisfying (though not spicy as described).
The cutlet reminded me of a thick, crispy Shanghainese fried pork chop - so good. I also saw someone use hash browns as burger buns with fried chicken… genius idea I'll try next time!
Dessert was a surprise hit - a blueberry cheesecake donut that was juicy & light, not overly sweet. The orange blossom mocktail had a unique Jo Malone-style aroma - floral & refreshing (but wish it came in a bigger glass!).
Friendly service, no rush vibes, way more comfortable than noisy downtown spots. I'll be coming back again & again to try more!
This place is much larger than I expected, it has room for large groups & a varied menu. I had the chicken & I must say, it was just ok, not really something I would come back for but it is suppose to be one of their specialties. The side beet & grapefruit salad was quite good, but again, nothing to really rave about. The service was nice & the prices are reasonable. The biggest issue is the location, it is quite far from public transit, so not worth the long trek for me.
Unfortunately, we were disappointed. One of the signature dishes, the roast chicken is dry & overcooked. It also takes an extremely long time for it to be served. Service is functional but did not feel warm. Service was also very slow.
Loved the atmosphere here. Great drink selection, especially Cantillon. The pasta & chicken noodle soup was out favorite
